To investigate whether time-tradeoff utilities of survivors of myocardial infarction change over time and whether changes in utilities correlate with changes in functional status, the authors conducted serial interviews using a time tradeoff and three measures of functional status in a cohort of 67 patients who had recently had myocardial infarction. The patients were also asked to rate their overall health on a rating scale and were asked about chest pain, exercise status, and employment status. Each patient was interviewed two to five times over one and a half years. The mean (95% CI) time-tradeoff score for all patients was 0.88 (0.84, 0.93). Over a mean interval of 8.4 months, 28 (42%) patients changed Karnofsky scores, 28 (42%) changed Specific Activity Scale classes, and 11 (16%) changed New York Heart Association classes, with most changes representing improvements in functional status. Scores on the rating scale improved by a mean (95% CI) of 0.06 [(0.03, 0.10); p < 0.002], but scores on the time tradeoff remained stable, with a mean (95% CI) change of 0.03 [(-0.02, 0.08); p = NS]. Changes in time-tradeoff scores did not correlate with changes in Specific Activity Scale classes (Kendall's tau = 0.21), New York Heart Association classes (tau = -0.02), or Karnofsky scores (tau = 0.14); with changes on the verbal rating scale (R = 0.20); with changes in chest pain status (tau = -0.05), exercise status (tau = 0.11), or employment status (tau = 0.11); or with interim hospitalizations (tau = 0.05).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

The importance and difficultly of asset tracking make it worthy of attention. We focus on data centers consisting of vertical racks where each rack may accommodate a variety of equipment. We describe an asset tracking system which automatically detects and identifies equipment within rack; has “pinpoint” accuracy, i.e., location resolution equals asset size; relays this information to possibly several management back-ends; includes a back-end application that maintains a location history for all equipment; and uses a visualization tool to display both the current state and the history of deployment. The solution features a flexible architecture that simplifies the connection with both existing and future asset management applications. Acoustic emissions obtained from polymers under stress have been subjected to various mathematical analyses with the objective of relating the observed signals to accompanying chemical and physical changes in the polymer. The following methods have been investigated: frequency analysis, autocor-relation analysis, cepstrum analysis and cluster analysis (pattern recognition). It is shown that it is possible to classify the signals from a given polymer sample into relatively few types and that there is a periodicity in a number of plots of acoustic power vs time. Differences between samples are evident, although it is not possible at this stage to state that they are statistically significant. The materials examined include, nylon-6,6, ‘Diakon’, polypropylene and various composites.  相似文献

We report the fabrication of single tap ring resonators made by thermal silver ion-exchange in various types of glass substrates. The highest finesse achieved was 55 with an efficiency of 32 percent. We systematically measured losses arising from different sources such as intrinsic absorption in the glass and scattering from side wall roughness arising from the mask fabrication technique. Studies suggest that urban form can influence microclimate regulation. Remote sensing studies have contributed to these findings through analysis of high-resolution land cover maps, landscape ecology metrics, and thermal imagery. Collectively, these have been referred to as land cover configuration studies. There are three objectives to this study. The first is to assess the relationship between nighttime land surface temperatures (LST) and land cover configuration and composition. The second objective is to outline a comprehensive methodology that includes ordinary least squares (OLS), spatial regression, variable selection, and multicollinearity analysis. Our last objective is to test three hypotheses about the relationship between LST and land cover, which can briefly be described as: 1) the importance of land-use regimes in modeling LST from land cover composition and configuration variables; 2) the strength of the correlation between LST and roads, buildings, and vegetation; and 3) the improved quality of models using landscape metrics in modeling the relationship between LST and land cover. Based on 16 different models (8 OLS, 8 spatial regression) we could confirm the above hypotheses, but we found that the configuration of buildings, roads, and vegetation have a complex relationship with LST. Our interpretation of this complexity, combined with the strength of composition variables, is that parsimonious models, for now, are more useful to urban planners because they are more generalizable. Finally, spatial regression models of land cover configuration and LST demonstrated an improvement over non-spatial linear models (OLS). Spatial regression models reduced heteroskedasticity and clusters of residuals, and tempered coefficients, suggesting that the OLS models could be biased. OLS models were still found to be a valuable tool for exploratory analysis.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

To determine degradation products formed by exposure of TATB to ionizing radiation, a computational and experimental study is presented. Thermochemical and spectral data have been calculated using DFT at the MH06-HF/aug-cc-pVTZ level which suggest the formation of the cation radical derivative of TATB. Irradiated TATB samples showed the widely reported yellow-to-green discoloration, with measured CIE L*, a*, b* and RGB values correlating with total dose. Trace quantities of a mono-furazan derivative were detected by HPLC-MS; the discoloration is not attributed to this, but rather to the presence of a paramagnetic species (i.e., the cation), as detected by ESR measurements. Recrystallized irradiated TATB samples reverted to their original color, further suggesting it is the cation radical that is responsible for color change.  相似文献

Prenatal ethanol exposure causes the most frequent preventable birth disorder, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). The effect of turmeric extracts in rescuing an ethanol‐induced developmental defect using zebrafish as a model was determined. Ethanol‐induced oxidative stress is one of the major mechanisms underlying FASD. We hypothesize that antioxidant inducing properties of turmeric may alleviate ethanol‐induced defects. Curcuminoid content of the turmeric powder extract (5 mg/mL turmeric in ethanol) was determined by UPLC and found to contain Curcumin (124.1 ± 0.2 μg/mL), Desmethoxycurcumin (43.4 ± 0.1 μg/mL), and Bisdemethoxycurcumin (36.6 ± 0.1 μg/mL). Zebrafish embryos were treated with 100 mM (0.6% v/v) ethanol during gastrulation through organogenesis (2 to 48 h postfertilization (hpf)) and supplemented with turmeric extract to obtain total curcuminoid concentrations of 0, 1.16, 1.72, or 2.32 μM. Turmeric supplementation showed significant rescue of the body length at 72 hpf compared to ethanol‐treated embryos. The mechanism underlying the rescue remains to be determined.  相似文献
