Investigating differential treatment in rental housing markets is important to ensure that renters are not discriminated against based on their personal characteristics. However, little Australian research has focused systematically on this question. This paper reports the results of a study that used paired tests to estimate the extent of differential treatment of Anglo, Indian, and Muslim Middle Eastern renters in the Sydney metropolitan housing market. We find statistically significant differences in treatment on several measures, including the likelihood an agent will offer an individual appointment, will provide additional information about other housing, will provide additional information about completing the application form, and will contact a prospective renter after an inspection.  相似文献

The chemically crosslinked network structures make epoxies, the most common thermosets, unable or hard to be recycled, causing environmental problems and economic losses. Epoxy-based vitrimers, polymer networks deriving from epoxy resins, can be thermally malleable according to bond exchange reactions (BERs), opening the door to recycle epoxy thermosets. Here a series of experiments were carried out to study the effects of processing conditions (such as particle size distributions, temperature, time, and pressure) on recycling of an epoxy-anhydride vitrimer. Polymer powders from the epoxy-anhydride vitrimer with different size distributions were prepared and characterized, and the influence of particle size on the mechanical performance of recycled epoxy-anhydride vitrimers was investigated by dynamic mechanical analysis and uniaxial tensile test. Experimental results demonstrated that finer polymer powders can increase the contacting surfaces of recycled materials and thus result in high quality of recycled materials. In addition, the influences of other treating parameters, such as temperature, time, and pressure, were also discussed in this study. Adjusting these treating parameters can help the design of an optimized reprocessing procedure to meet practical engineering applications.  相似文献

The structural, electronic, and elastic properties of pristine and carbon‐doped boron suboxide (B6O) are calculated using density functional theory. The results indicate that it is energetically preferable for a single carbon atom to substitute into an oxygen site rather than a boron site. The lattice parameters and cell volume increase to relieve the residual stress created by the carbon substitution. The interstitial position is not favorable for a single atom substitution. However, if two carbon atoms substitute for two neighboring oxygen atoms, then it becomes energetically favorable to dope an interstitial oxygen, boron, or carbon atom along the C–C chain. If the interstitial dopant is either boron or carbon, a local B4C‐like structure with either a C–B–C or C–C–C chain is created within the boron suboxide unit cell. The resulting structure shows improvements in the bulk modulus at the expense of the shear and Young's moduli. The moduli further improve if an additional carbon is substituted within a polar or equatorial site of the neighboring B12 icosahedron. Based on these calculations, we conclude that carbon doping can either harden or soften B6O depending on the manner in which the substitutions are populated. Furthermore, as B6O samples are often oxygen deficient, C doping can occupy such sites and improve the elastic properties.  相似文献

The length of the transit region of a Gunn diode determines the natural frequency at which it operates in fundamental mode-the shorter the device, the higher the frequency of operation. The long-held view on Gunn diode design is that for a functioning device the minimum length of the transit region is about 1.5 μm, limiting the devices to fundamental mode operation at frequencies of roughly 60 GHz. The authors posit that this theoretical restriction is a consequence of limits of the hydrodynamic models by which it was determined. Study of these devices by more advanced Monte Carlo techniques, which simulate the ballistic transport and electron-phonon interactions that govern device behaviour, offers a new lower bound of 0.5 μm, which is already being approached by the experimental evidence shown in planar and vertical devices exhibiting Gunn operation at 0.6 μm and 0.7 μm. It is shown that the limits for Gunn domain operation are determined by the device length required for the transferred electron effect to occur(approximately 0.15 μm, which as demonstrated is largely field independent) and the fundamental size of the domain(approximately 0.3 μm). At this new length, operation in fundamental mode at much higher frequencies becomes possible-the Monte Carlo model used predicts power output at frequencies over 300 GHz.  相似文献

W(CO)6 and H2O2 were used in an atomic layer deposition (ALD)‐like process to grow thin WOx films onto TiO2 powders in a fluidized bed reactor. Carbonyl precursors are not widely used in this application, so that deviations from an ideal ALD process, previously not examined with W(CO)6, were identified. The resulting WOx films were a result of both ALD‐like and chemical vapor deposition‐based growth modes. A chemical reaction mechanism incorporating a combination of these two growth modes was inferred. As the move to expand the range of ALD precursors meets with the desire to scale up these processes, the simultaneous appearance of both these growth modes is likely to become more and more common, and so understanding the interaction of these two types of surface reactions is key to progress in the field. The films were observed to inhibit the anatase‐to‐rutile phase transformation in the TiO2 powders upon high temperature annealing, while crystallization of the amorphous WO3 was also not observed. Changes in the local bonding within the WO3 were observed and associated with changes in the structural nature of the film and its interface to the substrate. © 2014 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 60: 1278–1286, 2014  相似文献

Dithiocarboxylation of some halogenated pyridine sulphones with carbon disulphide and sodium hydride leads to the formation of thiomethyl derivatives via Smiles rearrangement of the initially produced dianion, fragmentation and subsequent methylation. In one instance the pyridino[2,3-b]-1,4-dithiine 7 was obtained. The thioether 2d was also converted into a thiomethyl derivative when subjected to the same reaction sequence.  相似文献

A number of novel thieno[2,3-b]pyridines were prepared from the reaction of 1 with unsaturated haloalkanes, and by the reaction of the amino ketones 9 and 10 with DMF dimethylacetal or triethyl orthoformate. This work evaluates chronic safety in middle‐aged ovariectomized rats supplemented with different dosages of green tea polyphenols (GTP) in drinking water. The experiment used 6‐mo‐old sham (n = 39) and ovariectomized (OVX, n = 143) female rats. All sham (n = 39) and 39 of the OVX animals received no GTP treatment and their samples were collected for outcome measures at baseline, 3 mo, and 6 mo (n = 13 per group for each). The remaining OVX animals were randomized into 4 groups receiving 0.15%, 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5% (n = 26 for each) of GTP (wt/vol), respectively, in drinking water for 3 and 6 mo. No mortality or abnormal treatment‐related findings in clinical observations or ophthalmologic examinations were noted. No treatment‐related macroscopic or microscopic findings were noted for animals administered 1.5% GTP supplementation. Throughout the study, there was no difference in the body weight among all OVX groups. In all OVX groups, feed intake and water consumption significantly decreased with GTP dose throughout the study period. At 6 mo, GTP intake did not affect hematology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis, except for phosphorus and blood urea nitrogen (increased), total cholesterol, lactate dehydrogenase, and urine pH (decreased). This study reveals that the no‐observed‐adverse‐effect level (NOAEL) of GTP is 1.5% (wt/vol) in drinking water, the highest dose used in this study.  相似文献
