Core-conductor models, used to integrate the behavior of the longitudinal currents with the distributed voltages of electrically active tissue, have evolved for over a century. A critical step in the use of such models is the computation of membrane current from the set of distributed transmembrane potential values that exist at a given moment, where the potentials are obtained either experimentally or computationally. Over time, interest has developed in a number of substantial extensions of the original model to include such features as nonuniform spatial resistances, loop instead of linear structure, and multiple sites of extracellular stimulation. This paper concisely restates and extends the equations for calculation of transmembrane currents with the systematic inclusion of alternative cases, noting how they reduce to the standard forms. An important issue is how complex the calculation of membrane current has to be. Thus, the paper goes on to show criteria (based on the uniformity of resistance and the presence of stimulation) for deciding when membrane currents can be obtained with a relatively simple calculation with a single equation involving local variables versus with a more complex calculation involving the simultaneous solution of a (possibly large) set of equations.  相似文献

This article deals with the metastable liquid-liquid separation in the Cu-Co system. Several samples with different compositions were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry. High undercooling with respect to the liquidus was reached by means of the glass fluxing technique. The alloys were cycled with several heating and cooling runs in order to determine the temperature of the liquid-liquid separation and of the remixing. For each composition, demixing and remixing temperatures were found to be equal. Nucleation rate calculations of the liquid phase separation were carried out to explain the experimental results. The liquid-liquid separation in the Cu-Co system was found to be a nucleation process occurring with no detectable undercooling below the binodal line.  相似文献

G. Stanley Hall influenced several social movements that had great implications for child wellbeing: the Child Study, Parent Education, and Child Welfare Movements. However, while Hall laid much of the foundation for the field of scientific child study and policy-relevant research, his legacy is virtually nonexistent. Stanley Hall, and the dual role Hall played in history as a revered leader of the Child Study Movement and a controversial figure in the landscape of early child psychology. The authors examined effects of age-related binding deficits on feature information in false memories for imagined objects (e.g., lollipop) that were similar in shape to seen objects (e.g., magnifying glass). In Experiment 1, location memory for seen objects was lower in older than younger adults and lower still in old-old than young-old adults. Imagined objects, when falsely called seen, were less likely to be attributed to the location of similar seen objects (i.e., congruent attributions) by old-old than young-old adults. In Experiment 2, for younger adults, displaying seen objects for less time (1 s vs. 4 s) reduced both location memory for seen objects and congruent attributions for false memories. Efficient algorithms to mine frequent patterns are crucial to many tasks in data mining. Since the Apriori algorithm was proposed in 1994, there have been several methods proposed to improve its performance. However, most still adopt its candidate set generation-and-test approach. In addition, many methods do not generate all frequent patterns, making them inadequate to derive association rules. We propose a pattern decomposition (PD) algorithm that can significantly reduce the size of the dataset on each pass, making it more efficient to mine all frequent patterns in a large dataset. The proposed algorithm avoids the costly process of candidate set generation and saves time by reducing the size of the dataset. Our empirical evaluation shows that the algorithm outperforms Apriori by one order of magnitude and is faster than FP-tree algorithm. Oxygen sensing films were synthesized by a chemical conjugation of functional platinum porphyrin probes in silica gel, polystyrene (PS), and poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) matrices. Responses of the sensing films to gaseous oxygen and dissolved oxygen were studied and the influence of the matrices on the sensing behaviors was investigated. Silica gel films had the highest fluorescence intensity ratio from deoxygenated to oxygenated environments and the fastest response time to oxygen. PHEMA films had no response to gaseous oxygen, but had greater sensitivity and a faster response time for dissolved oxygen than those of PS films. The influence of matrices on oxygen response, sensitivity and response time was discussed. The influence is most likely attributed to the oxygen diffusion abilities of the matrices. Since the probes were chemically immobilized in the matrices, no leaching of the probes was observed from the sensing films when applied in aqueous environment. One sensing film made from the PHEMA matrix was used to preliminarily monitor the oxygen consumption of Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria. E. coli cell density and antibiotics ampicillin concentration dependent oxygen consumption was observed, indicating the potential application of the oxygen sensing film for biological application.  相似文献

In this paper a two-dimensional (2-D) dynamic model, based on a tensor formulation and solved numerically by combining finite elements and finite differences, is proposed and used for analyzing nematic liquid crystal (LC) test cells with interdigital electrodes. We compare theoretical and experimental results concerning the switching behavior, response mechanism, and viewing angle characteristics of nematic LC pixel structures which use the in-plane-switching (IPS) mode. The good agreement observed between theory and experiment in terms of electro-optical properties validates our modeling and demonstrates its potential for design optimization. We show that the proposed LC test cells, using the in-plane-switching mode, ensure switching-ON and -OFF response times of 22 and 28 ms, respectively, and excellent viewing angle characteristics  相似文献
