The photopolymerization of styrene with a well‐defined molecular architecture and a low polydispersity index and with methyl and phenylseleno (? SePh) groups at α‐ and ω‐chain ends, respectively, was performed via a controlled/living radical polymerization with a new initiating system, 1‐(phenylseleno)ethyl benzene/tert‐butyl diphenyl (phenylseleno) silane, through the absorption of visible light at room temperature. A novel initiating living radical polymerization was examined. The yield and number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of the resulting polymer increased with the reaction time. Furthermore, a linear relationship was found in a plot of Mn versus the polymer yield. Addition of plasticizers to poly(vinyl chloride) generally increases its flammability and frequently increases smoke production during its burning. Flame retardants added to plasticized PVC can reduce flammability, but increase smoke production. This study shows that proper choice of combined use of other polymers, phosphate plasticizers, fillers and other flame retardants, produces measured synergistic improvements in flame retardance and smoke suppression which could benefit applications such as PVC wire and cable insulation.  相似文献

Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are improving the performance and efficiency of advanced gas turbine engines by allowing higher inlet temperature and insulation of critical hot-section components. Monitoring the integrity of TBCs prior to failure is critical to the overall performance of gas turbine en gines and requires a robust nondestructive evaluation (NDE) technique. In this paper, changes in electrochemical impedance with microstructural degradation of critical constituents in TBCs are summarized for the development of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy as an NDE technique for TBCs.  相似文献

Apoptotic cell death involves a ritual series of morphological changes, presumably reflecting a conserved molecular pathway. We now report that the nuclear events typical of apoptosis can be reproduced in "apoptotic" Xenopus egg extracts. In this cell-free system, nuclear assembly and protein import are initially normal; after 2-4 hr, however, a process of nuclear destruction ensues involving chromatin condensation and the shrinkage and fragmentation of the nuclei. This apoptotic process, which also occurs in nuclei added exogenously, is blocked by the addition of baculovirus-expressed Bcl-2 protein. To block the disintegration of nuclei that are added later, Bcl-2 must be present during this latent period. "Apoptosis" in these extracts requires a dense organelle fraction enriched in mitochondria. The cell-free system described here provides a novel tool for understanding intracellular events in apoptosis and the inhibitory function of Bcl-2.  相似文献

A.c. impedance behaviour of MnO2 and doped -MnO2 electrodes in H2SO4 medium was assessed with a view to explaining the mechanism of the discharge behaviour of MnO2 electrodes in 4m H2SO4 electrolyte. The electrodes used in this work appear to be intermediate cases of planar and porous electrodes as the angles, , made by the low frequency part with the real axis are found to be in the range (30–60°). The Nyquist plots and the Randle plots tend to reinforce the observation made by Tye that the capacity yield is essentially diffusion controlled. The depression and flattening of semi-circles observed reveals a link with the heterogeneity of the planar electrode and with the porosity of the pitted electrode. The deviation from a 45° angle made by the low frequency part with the real axis may either be explained by the roughness of the electrode surface or the shallow pores on the surface of the electrodes; in other words due to the difference between the apparent and true surface areas. The double layer capacitance values of the electrodes seem to subsume adsorption capacitances and diffusion factors. Hence, the relative increase in magnitude. The electrodes appear to behave like planar electrodes when 10 µF is introduced into the circuit as a parallel capacitance since angles 0 vary between 40–58°. The undoped -MnO2 electrode, as well as those prepared from Li-MnO2, Ag-MnO2, and I.C.8, appear to be planar electrodes.  相似文献

The effect of unreacted cement content on the processing, structure, and properties of macro-defect-free (MDF) composites fabricated from calcium aluminate cement (CAC), -alumina (Al2O3), and polyvinyl alcohol-acetate (PVAA) has been investigated. Three systems were formed with initial CAC: Al2O3 ratios of 5050, 3565, and 2575 by volume in their respective formulations. The amount of unreacted cement was reduced from 68.1 vol% which is present in standard (100% CAC) MDF cement, to 14.9 vol % for composites with an initial CAC: Al2O3 ratio of 2575, while the hydration product content was reduced from 18.1 vol % to 11.4 vol % for these respective systems. A hard core/soft shell continuum percolation model was used to determine that alumina substitution did not significantly affect the percolative nature of the interphase and bulk polymer regions. However, experiments showed that the reduction in unreacted cement content through Al2O3 substitution affected both the processing and microstructural features of these composites. The moisture absorption kinetics and flexural strength of composites exposed to 100% relative humidity were also evaluated, and it was found that their moisture sensitivity improved with decreasing unreacted cement content. A hypothesis is presented to explain the role of unreacted cement on the moisture sensitivity of these materials.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Provide regional flow measurement in the hearts of small mammals using a new, higher-resolution technique based on the deposition of a molecular marker. METHODS: We determined the instantaneous extraction and retention of the "molecular microsphere" radiolabeled desmethylimipramine in retrogradely perfused hamster hearts. In a separate series of experiments, autoradiography was used to measure regional myocardial deposition densities in hamster hearts of about 0.5 g with spatial area resolution of 16 x 16 microns. RESULTS: Radiolabeled desmethylimipramine is almost 100% extracted during a single transcapillary passage and is retained in the tissue for many minutes. Autoradiographic images demonstrated a spatial flow heterogeneity with standard deviations of 31 +/- 4% of the mean flow (N = 5) in 16 x 16 x 20-micronm3 voxels. This is equivalent to the projections made using fractal relationships from cruder observations obtained with microspheres in the hearts of baboons, sheep, and rabbits. CONCLUSIONS: Autoradiography using a molecular deposition marker provides quantitative information on myocardial flow heterogeneities with resolution at the size of cardiac myocytes. Because the regions resolved are smaller than the volume of regions supplied by single arterioles, the results must slightly exaggerate the true heterogeneity of regional flows.  相似文献

The preparative parameters have been optimized for NiO film formation in fabricated Spray Pyrolysis System using pneumatic air pressure driven aerosol formation. The structural studies by X-ray diffractometer (XRD) have been carried out to investigate crystallographic features. It was revealed that NiO crystallizes in cubic bunsenite structure. The optical band gap for direct transitions was found to be equal to 3.67 eV. Field Emission Scanning Electron Micrographs (FESEM) have been employed to study morphological aspects of the prepared films. The elemental depth profiles of film contents have been obtained Auger Electron Spectroscopic (AES) studies.  相似文献
