Early warning of fault conditions of an over-current protection module in dependable communication applications

This article describes the implementation of early warning feature in an over-current protection module designed for limiting the surge-current in communication applications. The early warning signal is generated by a surge-current sensor and a temperature sensor mounted on the protection module. Described solution decreases fault latency and consequently improves the efficiency of the on-line fault detection mechanism. It can be used for diagnostic on-line monitoring in dependable adaptive computing systems.     

Phase diagram of the Al2O3-ZrO2-Er2O3 system. III. Solidus surface and phase equilibria in alloy crystallization

The solidus surface for the Al₂O₃-ZrO₂-Er₂O₃ phase is projected for the first time onto the concentration triangle. It consists of five isothermal three-phase fields that correspond to four invariant eutectic equilibria, one invariant transformation equilibrium, and six ruled binary eutectic solidus surfaces. The highest solidus temperature in the system is 2710 °C, which is the melting point of pure ZrO₂, and the lowest is 1720°C, which is the melting point of the ternary eutectic AL + F + Er₃A₅. Neither ternary phases nor visible solid solution areas based on components and binary compounds are found in the system. Based on the data on bounding binary systems, liquidus, and solidus surfaces, the phase equilibrium diagram and reaction scheme for equilibrium crystallization of Al₂O₃-ZrO₂-Er₂O₃ alloys are constructed. __________ Translated from Poroshkovaya Metallurgiya, Vol. 46, No. 5–6 (455), pp. 74–83, 2007.     

Luminescence of zinc oxide nanorods

The spectra of spontaneous and stimulated emission of ZnO nanorods grown by two low-temperature procedures are studied. Stimulated emission at 385 nm is observed at room temperature in CVD ZnO nanocrystals pumped by the nitrogen laser radiation at the wavelength 337 nm. The threshold pumping power density for lasing exitonic recombination is ～600 kW/cm².     

The use of the correlation method in evaluating the accuracy characteristics of precision instruments

Evaluations of the accuracy characteristics of precision instruments obtained by the correlation method and the three-cornered hat method are compared. It is shown that the resulting evaluations are the same, and the correlation method is easier to implement and provides a more accurate assessment. A technique is proposed for evaluating the impact of the correlation of meter errors in the implementation of the correlation method. The results of natural and computational experiments (in relation to the measurement of the pulse sequence period) have shown that there is almost no correlation of the meter errors.
