One of the main issues to be addressed in topological design of centralized networks is that of assigning terminals to concentrators in such a way that each terminal is assigned to one (and only one) concentrator and the total number of terminals assigned to any concentrator (which is referred to as load in this paper) does not overload that concentrator, i.e. is within the concentrator's capacity. Under these constraints, an assignment with the lowest possible cost is sought. An assignment of terminals to concentrators which minimizes the maximum load among the concentrators (which qualitatively represents congestion at some hot spots in a network service area) is referred to as a min-max load assignment. In this paper, we consider the problem of finding a min-max load assignment with the-lowest cost. We call this problem the Minimum Cost Min-Max Load Terminal Assignment Problem (MCMLTAP). We present an algorithm for MCMLTAP and prove that the problem is optimally solvable in polynomial time using our proposed algorithm.  相似文献

Application-Oriented Flow Control: Fundamentals, Algorithms and Fairness   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
This paper is concerned with flow control and resource allocation problems in computer networks in which real-time applications may have hard quality of service (QoS) requirements. Recent optimal flow control approaches are unable to deal with these problems since QoS utility functions generally do not satisfy the strict concavity condition in real-time applications. For elastic traffic, we show that bandwidth allocations using the existing optimal flow control strategy can be quite unfair. If we consider different QoS requirements among network users, it may be undesirable to allocate bandwidth simply according to the traditional max-min fairness or proportional fairness. Instead, a network should have the ability to allocate bandwidth resources to various users, addressing their real utility requirements. For these reasons, this paper proposes a new distributed flow control algorithm for multiservice networks, where the application's utility is only assumed to be continuously increasing over the available bandwidth. In this, we show that the algorithm converges, and that at convergence, the utility achieved by each application is well balanced in a proportionally (or max-min) fair manner  相似文献

The need for communication services which span multiple communication technologies is growing. Communication services are being developed in three areas: in the public switched telephony networks, on the Internet in the form of integrated multimedia including voice-over-Internet, and in private switched telephony networks in the form of enterprise computer-telephony integration applications. This article shows it is plausible to create unified services which span the Internet and public switched telephony networks, and goes on to describe Nexus, an architecture and prototype for integrated communication services  相似文献

A novel circuit for measuring the infant mortality rate in InGaP/GaAs HBT Technology is presented. The circuit allows reliability stressing to be performed on as many as 100,000 transistors per wafer and is necessary in order to predict the infant circuit failure rate in circuits with >500 transistors without costly burn-in screens. This new circuit allows for the rapid identification of failed transistors and subsequent failure analysis to allow for process improvements. A variation of the same circuit has also been used to estimate the activation energy, Ea, of the infant failure mechanism. Rough estimates of Ea indicate that the infant failure mechanism is 0.5 eV, and that there may be two distinct failure mechanisms responsible for infant failures. Process defects have not been found on the vast majority of failed transistors, and there is good correlation between the substrate dislocation density and the infant failure rate. We have concluded that substrate dislocations are the leading cause of infant mortality in our HBT process.  相似文献

We outlined a simple model to account for the surface roughness (SR)-induced enhanced threshold voltage (V/sub TH/) shifts that were recently observed in ultrathin-body MOSFETs fabricated on <100> Si surface. The phenomena of enhanced V/sub TH/ shifts can be modeled by accounting for the fluctuation of quantization energy in the ultrathin body (UTB) MOSFETs due to SR up to a second-order approximation. Our model is then used to examine the enhanced V/sub TH/ shift phenomena in other novel surface orientations for Si and Ge and its impact on gate workfunction design. We also performed a calculation of the SR-limited hole mobility (/spl mu//sub H,SR/) of p-MOSFETs with an ultrathin Si and Ge active layer thickness, T/sub Body/<10 nm. Calculation of the electronic band structures is done within the effective mass framework via the Luttinger Kohn Hamiltonian, and the mobility is calculated using an isotropic approximation for the relaxation time calculation, while retaining the full anisotropy of the valence subband structure. For both Si and Ge, the dependence of /spl mu//sub H,SR/ on the surface orientation, channel orientation, and T/sub Body/ are explored. It was found that a <110> surface yields the highest /spl mu//sub H,SR/. The increasing quantization mass m/sub z/ for <110> surface renders its /spl mu//sub H,SR/ less susceptible with the decrease of T/sub Body/. In contrast, <100> surface exhibits smallest /spl mu//sub H,SR/ due to its smallest m/sub z/. The SR parameters, i.e. autocorrelation length (L) and root-mean-square (/spl Delta//sub rms/) used in this paper is obtained from the available experimental result of Si<100> UTB MOSFETs, by adjusting these SR parameters to obtain a theoretical fit with experimental data on SR-limited mobility and V/sub TH/ shifts. This set of SR parameters is then employed for all orientations of both Si and Ge devices.  相似文献

Multicasting refers to the transmission of data from a source node to multiple destination nodes in a network. Group multicasting is a generalization of multicasting whereby every member of a group is allowed to multicast messages to other members that belong to the same group. The routing problem in this case involves the construction of a set of low cost multicast trees with bandwidth requirements, one for each member of the group for multicasting messages to other members of the group. In this paper, we examine this routing problem with an additional requirement that member nodes are allowed to join and leave the multicasting group anytime during a session. We call this problem, the dynamic group multicast routing problem (DGMRP). In this paper, we proposed three heuristic algorithms to generate a set of low cost multicast trees with dynamic group membership. Results from our empirical study shows that the one of the proposed algorithms, called Maximum bandwidth bottleneck path selection algorithm (MBBPS), achieves better utilization of bandwidth resources as compared with the other two algorithms which are based on a greedy approach. A new microwave switch, the light-activated microwave photoconductive switch consisting of a heterostructure photoconductive switch (HPCS) with a flip-chip bonded vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser is reported. An insertion loss of 0.17 dB at a laser power of 15 mW and an isolation of 25 dB were obtained at 1 GHz. Excellent linearity was obtained with second and third order intercepts measured at 960 MHz of SOI=115 dBm and TOI=65 dBm at 960 MHz, respectively.  相似文献

The rough sets analysis focusing on the ownership, locational and internalization (OLI) advantages of Chinese construction multinational corporations (MNCs) in the international market under Dunning's Eclectic Paradigm was adopted to overcome the sample size constraint in MNC research that seeks to examine the causality patterns of the factors identified. The rough sets methodology provides a solution that conventional statistical methods do not offer to ascertain how these factors are determined and their influence in the OLI analysis of the performance of Chinese construction MNCs. The rough sets approach to handling imperfect data with uncertainty and vagueness was adopted to describe dependencies between attributes, evaluate the significance of attributes and deal with inconsistencies. Based on a questionnaire survey of 31 Chinese construction MNCs, findings from the rough sets analysis suggest, among other things, that: (1) a firm is likely to perform well in terms of its ownership advantages when it has a significant advantage on its reputation and its accessibility to resources when compared with local contractors; (2) a firm may be expected to achieve better results in terms of its locational advantages if the large number of competitors from China in the host countries becomes its most important consideration; and (3) a firm that conscientiously avoids or reduces information search and business negotiation costs would tend to perform well in terms of its internalization advantages.  相似文献

The discovery of hyperthermophilic microorganisms and the analysis of hyperthermostable enzymes has established the fact that multisubunit enzymes can survive for prolonged periods at temperatures above 100 degreesC. We have carried out homology-based modeling and direct structure comparison on the hexameric glutamate dehydrogenases from the hyperthermophiles Pyrococcus furiosus and Thermococcus litoralis whose optimal growth temperatures are 100 degreesC and 88 degreesC, respectively, to determine key stabilizing features. These enzymes, which are 87% homologous, differ 16-fold in thermal stability at 104 degreesC. We observed that an intersubunit ion-pair network was substantially reduced in the less stable enzyme from T. litoralis, and two residues were then altered to restore these interactions. The single mutations both had adverse effects on the thermostability of the protein. However, with both mutations in place, we observed a fourfold improvement of stability at 104 degreesC over the wild-type enzyme. The catalytic properties of the enzymes were unaffected by the mutations. These results suggest that extensive ion-pair networks may provide a general strategy for manipulating enzyme thermostability of multisubunit enzymes. However, this study emphasizes the importance of the exact local environment of a residue in determining its effects on stability.  相似文献
