BACKGROUND: The Zeiss MKM System is a recently developed computerized operating microscope for image-guided neurosurgery. The clinical advantages, reliability, accuracy, and limitations of this technique were investigated. METHODS: Since February 1995, 78 consecutive frameless stereotactic image-guided procedures were performed in 73 patients (30 males, 43 females; mean age, 46.9 years; range, 16-77 years) for tumor surgery (50/64.1%), cavernoma removal (16/20.5%), and functional procedures (12/15.4%). Skin markers (74 cases) or bone markers (4 cases) and a standard imaging protocol (2-mm cranial computed tomography (CCT) in 59 cases/1.5-mm magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in 19 cases) were used. RESULTS: The main advantages were pre-operative skin incision, craniotomy and corticotomy planning, and determination of lesion boundaries. Useful registration and system reliability were noted in 97% (76/78) of the procedures. A significant improvement in registration accuracy was observed over the test period from a mean of 4.8 mm (SD = 3.36; Cases 1-25) to a mean of 2.2 mm (SD = 0.86; Cases 26-78). This resulted in an improvement in application accuracy from <5 mm in 71% (Cases 1-25) to <2 mm in 95% (Cases 26-78) of cases, and the accuracy led to successful localization of the lesion in every case. Accuracy was reliable at the beginning of every procedure, but degraded to values >5 mm by the end of the procedure in 29% (22/78) of cases. MRI cases achieved higher application accuracy values (2.1 mm mean) than CT cases (3.7 mm mean). CONCLUSIONS: The system offers a reliable alternative to frame-assisted stereotactic craniotomies in lesion targeting, but would need an intraoperative image update for resection guidance.  相似文献

The preparation of LEDs with poly( p-phenylenevinylene) (PPV) as emitting material is well established. However, due to the presence of a distribution of conjugated chain lengths in the polymer, systematic investigations of the electroluminescence with polymeric materials are difficult, as far as the optical emission is concerned. We are studying the relationship between structural variation of substituted oligo(p-phenylenevinylene)s and their electroluminescent behaviour using a series of distyrylbenzenes with a variety of substituents in order to investigate their influence on the electroluminescence (EL). Furthermore, we synthesized a homologous series of monodisperse oligo(2,5-dipropoxy-1,4-phenylenevinylene)s with up to 11 repeating units. This series covers the spectrum from monomer to polymer. The influence on the EL can be investigated by preparing single layer LEDs using vapor deposition or spincoating of the oligomers in a polystyrene (PS) matrix. The comparison of photoluminescence (PL)- and EL-spectra shows that the photophysical properties of the oligomers are strongly altered by aggregation phenomena.  相似文献

Rats with lesions to the hippocampus proper and the subiculum were tested for timing behavior and temporal memory. Using the peak procedure, they were trained to discriminate a 40 s interval and a retention gap tested the memory for time. Results were interpreted within the theoretical framework of the internal clock and with respect to current theories on hippocampal function. Timing behavior was unaffected by either lesion and no shifts in the temporal discrimination functions were observed. The lesions also failed to show a deficit in the memory for temporal events. For all groups, the retention gap increased the mean peak time by the time of the gap. This indicated that all rats used the stop rule which required the use of working memory. Thus, it was concluded that the hippocampus is neither necessary for accurate timing behavior nor for the memory of temporal events.  相似文献

We investigate finite-state systems with weights. Departing from the classical theory, in this paper the weight of an action does not only depend on the state of the system, but also on the time when it is executed; this reflects the usual human evaluation practices in which later events are considered less urgent and carry less weight than close events.
