This paper presents the full-wave analysis of commonly encountered optical periodic structures by the novel transmission-line matrix/integral equation (TLM-IE) method. The TLM-IE is a three-dimensional full-wave hybrid technique that combines the advantages of the numerical TLM method in dense finite regions and those of the IE method in open regions where simple Green functions are available. The pre- and postprocessing tools of the TLM-IE solver provide visualization and physical insight into the dynamics of electromagnetic propagation in such devices. The aim of this effort is twofold: 1) to analyze the diffraction and reflection characteristics of photonic bandgap gratings and 2) to define optimization guidelines for the Q factor of integrated dielectric resonators.  相似文献

Hydrogenation of phenol to cyclohexanone has been investigated in the temperature range 160–250°C on a series of Pd/MgO catalysts. At 160°C the orders of reaction were found on all catalysts to be about ?1 with respect to phenol and about + 1 with respect to hydrogen. On the basis of the kinetic results it is suggested that the rate determining step is the surface reaction between phenol and hydrogen adsorbed on the catalyst. An increase in the reaction temperature decreases the rate of reaction. This has been explained through a change of the orders of reaction which increase with temperature. Palladium dispersion does not influence the reaction mechanism. The specific activity was found to be independent of palladium particle size.  相似文献

Vegetal oil, also known as triglycerides, is a mixture of fatty acid triesters of glycerol. In the triglycerides alkyl chains of Jatropha curcas oil, predominate the palmitic, oleic and linoleic fatty acids. The process usually used to convert these triglycerides to biodiesel is called transesterification. The overall process is a sequence of three equivalent, consecutive and reversible reactions, in which di- and monoglycerides are formed as intermediates. Semi-empirical AM1 molecular orbital calculations were used to investigate the reaction pathways of base-catalyzed transesterification of glycerides of palmitic, oleic and linoleic acid. The most probable pathway and the rate determining-step of the reactions were estimated from the molecular orbital calculations. Our results suggest the formation of only one tetrahedral intermediate, which in a subsequent step rearranges to form the products. The rate determining-step is the break of this tetrahedral intermediate.  相似文献

In this work, we report on the structural characterization of homoepitaxial Microwave Plasma Enhanced CVD diamond grown onto Ib diamond substrates by varying systematically the methane to hydrogen ratio in the gas mixture (1–7% CH4). X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and photoluminescence (PL) have been used to characterize the diamond samples. Raman measurements pointed out the excellent crystalline quality and phase purity of the specimens. PL measurements in the 1.7–2.7 eV energy range have shown completely flat spectra, excluding the presence of nitrogen-related optical centers. Such results show that the homoepitaxial CVD diamond can be grown, at moderate microwave power (720 W), and at growth rates not too low ( 1 μm/h) preserving a good quality. Moreover, the homoepitaxial crystals exhibited a strong free-exciton recombination radiation at room temperature even at the highest methane concentration used (7%). Preliminary measurements of the lifetime of the free exciton at room temperature have been also performed. The excitation was produced by a 5 ns pulsed laser irradiation at energies above the diamond band gap. The results have been compared with the structural properties of the samples and correlated with the growth conditions.  相似文献

Heterogeneous Photooxidation of Phenol by Catalytic Membranes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In this work the heterogenization in polymeric membranes of decatungstate, a photocatalyst for oxidation reactions, was reported. Solid state characterization techniques confirmed that the catalyst structure was preserved within the polymeric membranes. The catalytic membranes were successfully applied in the aerobic photo-oxidation of phenol, one of the main organic pollutants in wastewater, providing stable and recyclable photocatalytic systems. The dependence of the phenol degradation rate by the catalyst loading and transmembrane pressure was shown. By comparison with homogeneous reaction, the catalyst heterogenised in membrane appears to be more efficient concerning the rate of phenol photodegradation and mineralization.  相似文献

Biological wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) are complex systems to assess. Many parameters are recorded daily in WWTP to monitor and control the treatment process, providing huge amounts of registered data. A combined approach of extracting information from the WWTP databases by statistical methods and from the sludge physico-chemical characterization was used here for a better understanding of the WWTP operation. The monitored parameters were analysed by multivariate statistical methods: Principal Components Analysis and multiple partial linear regression. The WWTP operational conditions determine the sludge characteristics. The bacterial activity of the sludge in terms of extra-cellular polymeric substances (EPS) production was assessed using size exclusion chromatography and the internal structure of sludge flocs was observed by confocal laser scanning microscopy. The diagnosis of three paper mill WWTP enabled the identification of an important EPS production, the presence of the nitrification process and the presence of PO43− nutrient in WWTP-A. These three main characteristics of WWTP-A were related with a systematically good sludge settling. In WWTP-B and C with bad settling, the bacterial activity was weak.  相似文献

The potential migration of genotoxic compounds into mineral water stored in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles was evaluated by an integrated chemical/biological approach using short-term toxicity/genotoxicity tests and chemical analysis. Six commercial brands of still and carbonated mineral water bottled in PET and in glass were stored at 40 °C for 10 days in a stove according to the standard EEC total migration test (82/711/EEC), or at room temperature in the dark. After treatment, the samples were analysed using gas-chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) to detect volatile and non-volatile compounds, the Microtox® test to evaluate potential toxicity of the samples, and three mutagenicity tests - Tradescantia and Allium cepa micronucleus tests and the Comet assay on human leukocytes - to detect their genotoxic activity.GC/MS analysis did not detect phthalates or acetaldehyde in the water samples. The Microtox® test found no toxic effects. Mutagenicity tests detected genotoxic properties of some samples in both PET and glass bottles. Statistical analyses showed a positive association between mineral content and mutagenicity (micronuclei in A. cepa and DNA damage in human leukocytes). No clear effect of treatment and PET bottle was found. These results suggest the absence of toxic compounds migrating from PET regardless of time and conditions of storage. In conclusion, bottle material and stove treatment were not associated with the genotoxic properties of the water; the genotoxic effects detected in bottled water may be related to the characteristics of the water (minerals and CO2 content).  相似文献

Abnormalities in RNA metabolism and alternative splicing (AS) are emerging as important players in complex disease phenotypes. In particular, accumulating evidence suggests the existence of pathogenic links between multiple sclerosis (MS) and altered AS, including functional studies showing that an imbalance in alternatively-spliced isoforms may contribute to disease etiology. Here, we tested whether the altered expression of AS-related genes represents a MS-specific signature. A comprehensive comparative analysis of gene expression profiles of publicly-available microarray datasets (190 MS cases, 182 controls), followed by gene-ontology enrichment analysis, highlighted a significant enrichment for differentially-expressed genes involved in RNA metabolism/AS. In detail, a total of 17 genes were found to be differentially expressed in MS in multiple datasets, with CELF1 being dysregulated in five out of seven studies. We confirmed CELF1 downregulation in MS (p = 0.0015) by real-time RT-PCRs on RNA extracted from blood cells of 30 cases and 30 controls. As a proof of concept, we experimentally verified the unbalance in alternatively-spliced isoforms in MS of the NFAT5 gene, a putative CELF1 target. In conclusion, for the first time we provide evidence of a consistent dysregulation of splicing-related genes in MS and we discuss its possible implications in modulating specific AS events in MS susceptibility genes.  相似文献

This work deals with esterification of palm fatty acids to produce biodiesel in a batch reactor, using homogeneous acid catalysts, evaluating the effect of the alcohol used, presence of water, type and concentration of catalysts. Methanesulfonic and sulfuric acid were the best catalysts. Reaction with methanol showed greater yields. It was showed very clearly that the presence of water in the reaction medium showed a negative effect in the reaction velocity. Kinetic parameters were estimated and molecular modeling was performed. Protonation of the carboxylic moiety of the fatty acid were defined as rate determinant step for the reaction.  相似文献

High-manganese austenitic steels were recently proposed to fabricate structural car body parts because of their very favorable combination of strength and ductility. They exhibit Portevin–Le Chatelier macroscopic plastic localization phenomena at the room temperature, as evidenced by the tensile curves first by the isolated stress peaks corresponding to the nucleation of deformation bands, which travel along the tensile axis, and then by serrations due to static deformation bands. The bands extend to the whole width of the specimen and cause a local temperature increase along with a slight surface relief. These plastic instabilities were studied during tensile tests at strain rates between 0.0004 and 0.04 s?1, with optical video recording, infrared thermography and optical extensometry, the latter based on digital image correlation. Two types of bands, type A and type C, were observed and are described.  相似文献
