Large quantities of indium nitride (InN) nanowires are synthesized by the in situ nitriding of indium oxide (In(2)O(3)) powders in an ammonia (NH(3)) flux. Tens of milligrams of nanowires are obtained in one batch. Every 100 mg of In(2)O(3) starting powder can produce up to 65 mg of InN nanowires under the optimized conditions. The synthesized nanowires grow along the [001] direction with excellent crystallinity. They are of high purity and are 30-50 microm in length with an almost uniform diameter of about 100 nm. Photoluminescence measurements of the nanowires exhibit a strong peak at 707 nm. An optical bandgap of about 1.7 eV is estimated based on the absorption spectrum. The experimental results also demonstrate that the approach of nitriding In(2)O(3) powders in situ is feasible for the synthesis of high-purity InN nanowires in large quantities, with good reproducibility and without catalyst materials. The synthesis of InN nanowires in large quantities would be of benefit to the further study and understanding of their intrinsic properties, as well as being advantageous for their potential application in nanodevices. 相似文献

It has been found that the degree of thermal stability of Bi(Pb)-2223/Ag pancake-shaped coils at 77 K can be determined by controlling the amount of matrix and superconducting materials during processing. The intermediate deformation step between sintering stages has been found to be crucial in optimizing the performance of the processed composite tapes as well as governing the thermal stability of the subsequently made pancake-shaped coils. Results obtained from numerical analysis of the finite element method has shown that monolayer coils produced from Bi(Pb)-2223/Ag composite tapes are thermally very stable with high values of the fill factor. However, increasing the number of co-wound tapes would require either a reduction in the fill factor or an increase in cooling rate for thermal stability to be sustained as would otherwise be achieved with the metallurgically same single tape. 相似文献

Studies of a new Ce-doped BaTiO(3) crystal as an efficient self-pumped phase conjugator in the near infrared are presented. The internal beam production during the establishment of self-pumped phase conjugation (SPPC) is closely observed, and the corresponding mechanisms of SPPC are identified accordingly. When the incident beam is in an a-face-incidence geometric arrangement, it is observed for the first time that SPPC mechanism has a transition from stimulated photorefractive backscattering and four-wave mixing to total internal reflection when λ is varied from 706 to 733 nm. Variations of the SPPC reflectivity with the λ, incident angle, and position of the input beam have been investigated, and a high reflectivity of approximately 80% has been obtained. In addition, SPPC reflectivity of approximately 40% is obtained when the incident beam enters the crystal by the +c face, and a variation with λ of optical beam patterns in the crystal has also been observed.
