In August 1997, a workshop was convened by the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance of Vaccine Preventable Diseases to consider current issues in the use of pertussis vaccines and implications for the Australian immunisation schedule. Topics covered included the history, efficacy and reactogenicity of whole-cell and acellular vaccines and vaccine schedules. Acellular pertussis vaccine is preferred by the National Health and Medical Research Council for the primary course as well as the 18 month and 4-5 year old childhood doses. At the time of the workshop, a 3-component acellular vaccine (DTPa) had been approved (licensed) in Australia for all doses in the childhood schedule. It was the first vaccine subject to a cost-effectiveness evaluation under the new vaccine funding arrangements. Issues considered in the evaluation of the cost-effectiveness of the vaccine were discussed. These included comparative efficacy, adverse events and compliance, and the question of community as well as individual benefit from the use of the vaccine. 相似文献

A process “continuous wrapping tantalum barrier” has been developing and investigated in this paper. By eliminating the need for inserting expensive tantalum tube, barrier is applied to unlimited piece length prior restack. A tantalum barrier with 20% overlap was wrapped onto subelements. Then 18-filament Nb3Sn plus 1 copper core restack billet was successfully drawn down to wire with 0.84-mm diameter. The longitudinal and cross-sectional images revealed most of barriers were continuous and intact but some disrupted. So, we are still working on the optimization of manufacturing process. 相似文献

In the present study, we assessed the ability of increasing doses of intranasal calcitonin to suppress urinary deoxypyridinoline cross-link (DPD), a specific biochemical marker of bone resorption, in early postmenopausal women. Subjects consisted of 30 healthy Thai women within 5 years of postmenopause, randomly assigned to 50, 100, or 200 IU of intranasal calcitonin 5 days/week for 3 months. Calcium supplementation by calcium carbonate capsules at 750 mg of elemental calcium per day was given to all subjects. Twenty four-hour urine for DPD and creatinine assays was collected at baseline, 1 month, and 3 months after treatment. All DPD values were corrected with urinary creatinine before analyses. Data were expressed as mean +/- SEM. DPD decreased significantly 1 month after intranasal calcitonin treatment (P < 0.01). However, at 3 months, DPD increased when compared with the values at 1 month (P < 0.01), suggesting that there may be a reduction in the suppression of bone resorption after prolonged calcitonin therapy. Using a stepwise multiple regression model to address whether dosage and DPD at baseline influence the response to intranasal calcitonin, it was found that DPD suppression after intranasal calcitonin was not related to dosage but was strongly associated with baseline DPD (P < 0.0001). Suppression of bone resorption in early postmenopausal women by intranasal calcitonin is determined more by the state of bone turnover at baseline than the dosage of calcitonin. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: The incidence of intrathyroidal parathyroid glands remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence in a series of patients with hyperparathyroidism. METHODS: Three hundred nine patients underwent parathyroidectomy. Patients were divided into two groups: uniglandular disease versus hyperplasia. RESULTS: Eighteen of 309 patients (6%) had abnormal intrathyroidal parathyroid glands. The incidence was 3% (7 of 222) in patients with uniglandular disease versus 15% (11 of 73) in those with hyperplasia. With a mean follow-up of 54 months, 12 patients are eucalcemic, 5 have persistent hypocalcemia, and 1 has recurrent hypercalcemia. There were no recurrent laryngeal nerve injuries. CONCLUSIONS: These data suggest that an intrathyroidal adenoma is an uncommon cause of failure, whereas abnormal intrathyroidal parathyroid tissue may be a more common cause of failure in patients with hyperplasia. 相似文献

Due to the advances in in-line inspection technology it is now possible to obtain an early in-line prediction of yield. This paper introduces and compares two new in-line yield prediction methodologies: (1) multilayer critical area method and (2) defect-type-size kill-ratio method. These methods are more accurate than the past and other current approaches used in the semiconductor industry. The first method uses the design layout information along with the in-line defect data, whereas the second method uses the defect and yield data to empirically derive the kill-ratios. We demonstrate our methodologies using data collected in a real wafer fabrication facility at the polysilicon gate (Poly), and the first and second interconnect (Metal 1 and Metal 2) post etch inspection layers. In rat selectively bred for different amygdala kindling rates (Fast vs. Slow), comorbid differences in learning were detected. Here, performance was tested in a delayed alternation task before, during, and after kindling. Although similar reference memory was evident, Fast rats showed working memory deficits with increasing delays between information and choice trials. Further, seizures shortly before learning disrupted both reference and working memory in Fast, but not Slow, rats. Weeks after kindling, progressive delays further disrupted Fast rats, but only longer delays disrupted Slow rats. Clearly relevant to individual differences in human epilepsy, a temporal lobe, seizure-prone genetic background in rats provides poorer original learning and easier disruption of new learning by recent and past seizures than a seizure-resistant background. It has been hypothesized that sensation seeking and impulsivity, which are often conflated, in fact develop along different timetables and have different neural underpinnings, and that the difference in their timetables helps account for heightened risk taking during adolescence. In order to test these propositions, the authors examined age differences in sensation seeking and impulsivity in a socioeconomically and ethnically diverse sample of 935 individuals between the ages of 10 and 30, using self-report and behavioral measures of each construct. Consistent with the authors' predictions, age differences in sensation seeking, which are linked to pubertal maturation, follow a curvilinear pattern, with sensation seeking increasing between 10 and 15 and declining or remaining stable thereafter. In contrast, age differences in impulsivity, which are unrelated to puberty, follow a linear pattern, with impulsivity declining steadily from age 10 on. Heightened vulnerability to risk taking in middle adolescence may be due to the combination of relatively higher inclinations to seek excitement and relatively immature capacities for self-control that are typical of this period of development.
