Standard potentials for the magnesium and magnesium amalgam electrodes relative to the silver electrode have been determined in dimethylformamide (DMF), propylene carbonate (PC) and acetonitrile (AN) solutions at ambient temperature (295 ± 2K) from emf measurements obtained using both stationary pool and flowing amalgam electrodes. Specific and molar conductance data are also presented for MgCl2 and Mg(ClO4)2 solutions in DMF, PC, AN and γ-butyrolactone (BL) at 295 K and 233 K. On the basis of the molar conductance data for PC/MgCl2 and BL/MgCl2 solutions, the formation of magnesium halide-bridged polymeric species is proposed.  相似文献

The decline of cooking banana production in parts of East Africa hasbeen associated with a loss of soil fertility and increased pest pressure.Previous work indicated that the use of mineral fertilizers at recommendedratesis not financially viable on plantations where pest pressure is high. Theobjectives of this study were to determine the effects of half the recommendedrates of mineral fertilizers and organic mulch on banana yield, soil and foliarnutrient status, soil water and pest damage in the central region of Uganda.Thestudy was conducted in a four-year old banana plantation infested with weevils.Treatments consisted of mineral fertilizer alone, mulch alone, a combination ofmulch with fertilizer, and a control (no mulch from outside the plot, ormineralfertilizer applied). Fruit yield was generally low (mean of 7.4 Mgha–1 yr–1) and increases above thecontrol ranged from 1.1 to 2.0 Mg ha–1 yr–1. Banana yield was significantly higher in the solemulch treatment than in the control. However, there were no significantdifferences in yield among the treatments that received external inputs. Thus,there was no demonstrable yield advantage of combining mineral fertilizer withmulch. At the end of the trial, soil K concentrations in the two treatmentsthatwere mulched, were almost twice those of the control, but this difference wasnotstatistically significant. Concentrations of Ca and Mg did not differ withtreatment. Soil available P significantly increased when mineral fertilizer andorganic mulch were combined. Treatments that received organic mulch were lowerin foliar concentrations of N and Mg, and higher in K. Soil water content wasgreater in the surface soil layer in the treatments that received mulch,presumably due to less surface run-off and evaporation, since there was nochangein surface soil porosity. The effect of organic and inorganic amendments had noimpact on weevil damage, which remained above 5% at the end of the trial. Weconclude that where weevil damage is over 5% of the cross section near thecollar, banana production may not be economically increased through use ofeither mineral fertilizer and/or organic mulch.  相似文献

Neuronal intranuclear inclusions are found in the brains of patients with Huntington's disease and form from the polyglutamine-expanded N-terminal region of mutant huntingtin. To explore the properties of inclusions and their involvement in cell death, mouse clonal striatal cells were transiently transfected with truncated and full-length human wild-type and mutant huntingtin cDNAs. Both normal and mutant proteins localized in the cytoplasm, and infrequently, in dispersed and perinuclear vacuoles. Only mutant huntingtin formed nuclear and cytoplasmic inclusions, which increased with polyglutamine expansion and with time after transfection. Nuclear inclusions contained primarily cleaved N-terminal products, whereas cytoplasmic inclusions contained cleaved and larger intact proteins. Cells with wild-type or mutant protein had distinct apoptotic features (membrane blebbing, shrinkage, cellular fragmentation), but those with mutant huntingtin generated the most cell fragments (apoptotic bodies). The caspase inhibitor Z-VAD-FMK significantly increased cell survival but did not diminish nuclear and cytoplasmic inclusions. In contrast, Z-DEVD-FMK significantly reduced nuclear and cytoplasmic inclusions but did not increase survival. A series of N-terminal products was formed from truncated normal and mutant proteins and from full-length mutant huntingtin but not from full-length wild-type huntingtin. One prominent N-terminal product was blocked by Z-VAD-FMK. In summary, the formation of inclusions in clonal striatal cells corresponds to that seen in the HD brain and is separable from events that regulate cell death. N-terminal cleavage may be linked to mutant huntingtin's role in cell death.  相似文献

The decay resistance was determined using a laboratory soil block test with pure fungus culture according to modified AWPA standard E10-91. A 4.0 kg/m3 elemental copper retention was sufficient to protect treated samples against Gleoephyllum trabeum, Pleurotus ostreatus, Trametes versicolor, Irpex lacteus, and Chaetomium globosum. But higher elemental copper retention (4.5 to 5 kg/m3) was needed for protection against the copper tolerant brown rot Poria placenta.  相似文献

Citizen science projects have the potential to address hypotheses requiring extremely large datasets that cannot be collected with the financial and labour constraints of most scientific projects. Data collection by the general public could expand the scope of scientific enquiry if these data accurately capture the system under study. However, data collection inconsistencies by the untrained public may result in biased datasets that do not accurately represent the natural world. In this paper, we harness the availability of scientific and public datasets of the Lyme disease tick vector to identify and account for biases in citizen science tick collections. Estimates of tick abundance from the citizen science dataset correspond moderately with estimates from direct surveillance but exhibit consistent biases. These biases can be mitigated by including factors that may impact collector participation or effort in statistical models, which, in turn, result in more accurate estimates of tick population sizes. Accounting for collection biases within large-scale, public participation datasets could update species abundance maps and facilitate using the wealth of citizen science data to answer scientific questions at scales that are not feasible with traditional datasets.  相似文献

Homography-based visual servo tracking control of a wheeled mobile robot   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
A visual servo tracking controller is developed in this paper for a monocular camera system mounted on an underactuated wheeled mobile robot (WMR) subject to nonholonomic motion constraints (i.e., the camera-in-hand problem). A prerecorded image sequence (e.g., a video) of three target points is used to define a desired trajectory for the WMR. By comparing the target points from a stationary reference image with the corresponding target points in the live image and the prerecorded sequence of images, projective geometric relationships are exploited to construct Euclidean homographies. The information obtained by decomposing the Euclidean homography is used to develop a kinematic controller. A Lyapunov-based analysis is used to develop an adaptive update law to actively compensate for the lack of depth information required for the translation error system. Experimental results are provided to demonstrate the control design.  相似文献

We estimated discharge and suspended sediment (SS) yield in a minimally disturbed watershed in North Central Pennsylvania, USA, and compared a typical storm (September storm, 4.80 cm) to a large storm (Superstorm Sandy, 7.47 cm rainfall). Depending on branch, Sandy contributed 9.7–19.9 times more discharge and 11.5–37.4 times more SS than the September storm. During the September storm, the upper two branches accounted for 60.6% of discharge and 88.8% of SS at Lower Branch; during Sandy these percentages dropped to 36.1% for discharge and 30.1% for SS. The branch with close proximity roads had over two‐three times per area SS yield than the branch without such roads. Hysteresis loops showed typical clockwise patterns for the September storm and more complicated patterns for Sandy, reflecting the multipeak event. Estimates of SS and hysteresis in minimally disturbed watersheds provide useful information that can be compared spatially and temporally to facilitate management.  相似文献
