An optical and irreversible temperature sensor (e.g., a time‐temperature integrator) is reported based on a mechanically embossed chiral‐nematic polymer network. The polymer consists of a chemical and a physical (hydrogen‐bonded) network and has a reflection band in the visible wavelength range. The sensors are produced by mechanical embossing at elevated temperatures. A relative large compressive deformation (up to 10%) is obtained inducing a shift to shorter wavelength of the reflection band (>30 nm). After embossing, a temperature sensor is obtained that exhibits an irreversible optical response. A permanent color shift to longer wavelengths (red) is observed upon heating of the polymer material to temperatures above the glass transition temperature. It is illustrated that the observed permanent color shift is related to shape memory in the polymer material. The films can be printed on a foil, thus showing that these sensors are potentially interesting as time‐temperature integrators for applications in food and pharmaceutical products.  相似文献

The tensile modulus, tensile strength and impact strength of melt blends of (a) poly(ethylene naphthalate) (PEN) and poly(butylene terephalate) (PBT) with 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 wt% PEN, (b) Nylon66 and PEN with 30, 50 and 70 wt% Nylon66 were measured, and thermal/thermomechanical properties were analysed by differential scanning calorimetry and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis. Scanning electron microscopy was used for examination of the fracture surfaces of the blends.All PBT/PEN blends show two glass transitions corresponding to the presence of two phases: the glass transition temperature, T g, of the phase with the lower T g increases with increasing PEN content, and T g for the phase with higher T g decreases with increasing PBT content. The implication is that the two polymers are partially miscible, and scanning electron microscopy of fracture surfaces reveals a very small (sub-micron) domain size. Nylon66/PEN blends also show two phases, but the domain size is of the order of m and there is no evidence of partial miscibility.Up to 50 weight proportions PBT does not lower the tensile strength of PBT/PEN blends, and the tensile strength lies between values predicted by the rule of mixtures and a modified rule of mixtures. Incorporation of at least 40% PEN in PBT increases impact strength, but blending with smaller proportions of PEN decreases impact strength. By contrast, blending of Ny66 and PEN results in reduction of tensile strength for all blend compositions.  相似文献

Glioblastoma display vast cellular heterogeneity, with glioblastoma stem cells (GSCs) at the apex. The critical role of GSCs in tumour growth and resistance to therapy highlights the need to delineate mechanisms that control stemness and differentiation potential of GSC. Dual-specificity tyrosine phosphorylation-regulated kinase 1A (DYRK1A) regulates neural progenitor cell differentiation, but its role in cancer stem cell differentiation is largely unknown. Herein, we demonstrate that DYRK1A kinase is crucial for the differentiation commitment of glioblastoma stem cells. DYRK1A inhibition insulates the self-renewing population of GSCs from potent differentiation-inducing signals. Mechanistically, we show that DYRK1A promotes differentiation and limits stemness acquisition via deactivation of CDK5, an unconventional kinase recently described as an oncogene. DYRK1A-dependent inactivation of CDK5 results in decreased expression of the stemness gene SOX2 and promotes the commitment of GSC to differentiate. Our investigations of the novel DYRK1A-CDK5-SOX2 pathway provide further insights into the mechanisms underlying glioblastoma stem cell maintenance.  相似文献

The disruption of short-term memory by to-be-ignored auditory sequences (the changing-state effect) has often been characterized as attentional capture by deviant events (deviation effect). However, the present study demonstrates that changing-state and deviation effects are functionally distinct forms of auditory distraction: The disruption of visual-verbal serial recall by changing-state speech was independent of the effect of a single deviant voice embedded within the speech (Experiment 1); a voice-deviation effect, but not a changing-state effect, was found on a missing-item task (Experiment 2); and a deviant voice repetition within the context of an alternating-voice irrelevant speech sequence disrupted serial recall (Experiment 3). The authors conclude that the changing-state effect is the result of a conflict between 2 seriation processes being applied concurrently to relevant and irrelevant material, whereas the deviation effect reflects a more general attention-capture process. A genetic-fuzzy learning from examples (GFLFE) approach is presented for determining fuzzy rule bases generated from input/output data sets. The method is less computationally intensive than existing fuzzy rule base learning algorithms as the optimization variables are limited to the membership function widths of a single rule, which is equal to the number of input variables to the fuzzy rule base. This is accomplished by primary width optimization of a fuzzy learning from examples algorithm. The approach is demonstrated by a case study in masonry bond strength prediction. This example is appropriate as theoretical models to predict masonry bond strength are not available. The GFLFE method is compared to a similar learning method using constrained nonlinear optimization. The writers’ results indicate that the use of a genetic optimization strategy as opposed to constrained nonlinear optimization provides significant improvement in the fuzzy rule base as indicated by a reduced fitness (objective) function and reduced root-mean-squared error of an evaluation data set.  相似文献

Adding an irrelevant item to the end of an auditory to-be-remembered list increases error on the last list items appreciably, known as the suffix effect. The phenomenon of auditory capture (e.g., Bregman & Rudnicky, 1975), namely, the tendency for a sequence of similar items to form a stream that at the same time isolates perceptually dissimilar members of the sequence, is exploited to explore the suffix effect. Irrelevant items interleaved between to-be-remembered items are used to capture the suffix with the aim of reducing its impact. Four experiments illustrate how the properties of the irrelevant sequence promote capture. The results are problematic for models of the suffix that involve masking of the last list item; instead, models based on grouping are favored. Melt blends of poly (butylene terephthalate) (PBT) and poly (ethylene naphthalate) (PEN) with 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 wt% PEN were prepared using a single screw extruder and injection moulding machine. 13C and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra were obtained with a Bruker DRX-400 instrument, on solutions prepared by dissolving samples of the homopolymers and each blend in deuterated trifluoroacetic acid + chloroform mixtures (1:1 by volume). The absence of new signals in 1H and 13C spectra, that would be expected to result from transesterification reactions in the PBT + PEN blend system, provides convincing evidence that such reactions do not occur in these blends under the melt processing conditions that were used. In the light of published work on solid-state NMR studies of these and related blend systems, and our observations of partial miscibility with a very small domain size, together with substantial enhancement of the mechanical properties of PBT by blending with PEN, we conclude that the improvement in mechanical properties arises from molecular scale mixing of the homopolymers and strong but non-covalent bonding interactions over the very large interfacial area between the PBT-rich and PEN-rich phases.  相似文献

In 2 experiments, the authors tested whether the classical modality effect--that is, the stronger recency effect for auditory items relative to visual items--can be extended to the spatial domain. An order reconstruction task was undertaken with four types of material: visual-spatial, auditory-spatial, visual-verbal, and auditory-verbal. Similar serial position curves were obtained regardless of the nature of the to-be-remembered sequences, with the exception that a modality effect was found with spatial as well as with verbal materials.
