The unlubricated sliding wear behavior of non-reinforced polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and a PEEK-carbon fiber (PEEK-Cf) composite was investigated under lightly loaded conditions against mild steel counterfaces. The results showed the occurrence of a relative minimum in wear for the non-reinforced PEEK-mild steel system, resulting from interfacial film formation. In addition, the wear particle morphology changed substantially as the counterface became rougher. For PEEK on abraded mild steel, attempts were made to correlate the wear rate with the average asperity radius model of Hollander and Lancaster. The PEEK-Cf composite, when compared under similar experimental conditions, also displayed a relative minimum in wear; however, it occurred against rougher counterfaces compared with those corresponding to the non-reinforced PEEK. A simple weak avalanche model valid in a wide range of voltages and currents, is presented. The proposed model is derived by using the base-collector depletion capacitance for predicting the avalanche current. The model needs only one additional transistor parameter; the extraction method and temperature dependence of this parameter are discussed. The decrease in avalanche current for high collector current densities may originate from internal device heating, a voltage drop in the epilayer, or mobile carriers in the depleted part. The composition of the Co-Cr-Mo alloy has been modified by additions of nickel and some trace elements aluminium, titanium and boron. In this paper, the first part of the present study, the effects of alloy additions on the microstructures and tensile properties of the as-cast Co-Cr-Mo alloy are discussed. The effects of alloy additions on the fatigue behaviour of the alloy will be discussed in the second part of the present study. It is found that alloy additions do not seem to result in changes in the nature of the casting structure. A directional, coarse dendritic cast structure is produced in the modified alloys as in the base alloY. However, the alloy additions affect the carbide precipitations and the formation of some fine details of the microstructure such as dislocations, stacking faults and twins produced during the solidification. A considerable improvement in the transient mechanical properties, especially in the tensile ductility, is achieved by modifying the base alloy with alloy additions. 相似文献

The geometry of plastic flow under spherical and Vickers indentors in Pd40Ni40P20 metallic glass has been investigated by sectioning and etching. The surface pile-ups and slip lines around the indentations are found to be only a small part of the total deformation. Beneath the surface extensive plastic zones are formed in which material is moved radially away from the indentor, but this movement is produced by slip on surfaces of high shear stress rather than by direct radial flow or compaction. Networks of cracks or incipient cracks also form around an indentation but are not normally visible until the material is etched. 相似文献

A Co-Cr film deposited directly on a substrate has an initial growth layer with low coercivity. However, the existence of a Ti underlayer prevents the formation of such a layer. As a result, Co-Cr film deposited on a Ti underlayer has high perpendicular anisotropy and coercivity even in cases of extremely thin film thickness (200 Å). As for the read-write characteristics of Co-Cr thin-film media, the existence of such an initial growth layer greatly improves the reproduced output level. The cause for this is considered to be that the free charges which appear on the back surface of the perpendicular recording layer are reduced and the demagnetization field acting on the recorded magnetization subsequently decreases due to the existence of the initial growth layer 相似文献

The effects of defects on the mechanical properties of carbon fibre reinforced polyethersulphone laminates have been measured. The defects studied were cut fibre plies, omission of polymer films and local delamination produced by the inclusion of foreign matter. Of these it was found that only cut plies had a significant detrimental effect on the strength of a laminate. For specimens with two cut plies, the failure stress, tensile, flexural and compressive in the remaining continuous plies was the same as in the defect-free material, provided that the cut plies were widely separated. However the failure stresses were 15–18% lower in the continuous plies in the specimens containing two cut plies which were more closely spaced and in specimens containing four cut plies. 相似文献

A model of the electronic structure of graphite-like carbon films, describing the semiconductor properties of this material, is presented. Spectra of optical constants of microcrystalline carbon films in the region λ = 0.4–8.0 μm were studied by the spectral ellipsometry and IR reflection methods. A number of distinctive features of the spectra, associated with both the appearance of C---C- and C---Hn-type bonds and direct energy gaps, were found. Analysis of the optical data using the proposed model makes possible a common interpretation of our results and literature data. Values of a parameter Θ, which is an averaged qualitative parameter of structural distortions within carbon microcrystallites as compared with crystalline graphite, are determined from comparison of theoretical results and experimental data. 相似文献

This paper derives the governing equations for the thermomechanical behaviour of composites. When the basic equations for the thermoelastic behaviour of solids were first derived in the nineteenth century several approximations were made. The effect of these assumptions are discussed and illustrated by the results of a simple laboratory test.
