Poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLLA) films containing various concentrations of two natural antioxidants, α‐tocopherol and resveratrol, were fabricated by a melt compounding and compression molding process. The influence of the antioxidants on the optical properties such as color and UV‐visible light transmission was analyzed. The thermal, mechanical, rheological and physical properties of PLLA films with added antioxidants were assessed. PLLA films with added α‐tocopherol and resveratrol showed a yellowish brown color and the lightness was influenced by the presence of the antioxidants. The glass transition and melting temperatures were significantly reduced with the addition of antioxidants while enhanced thermal stability was observed, which could be a benefit and important for processing and production. PLLA films with added antioxidants were slightly more hydrophobic than neat PLLA. The combination effect of plasticizing and enhancement of the elastic modulus with differing concentrations of two antioxidants played a critical role in the mechanical and thermomechanical properties of PLLA films. The melt viscosity of the PLLA films with added antioxidants was substantially higher than that of neat PLLA. The higher melt viscosity and G′(ω) could be an indication of formation of entanglement between PLLA and the two antioxidants. Copyright © 2012 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent adult cells with self-renewing capacities. MSCs display specific properties, such as the ability to repair damaged tissues, resulting in optimal candidates for cell therapy against degenerative diseases. In addition to the reparative functions of MSCs, growing evidence shows that these cells have potent immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore, MSCs are potential tools for treating inflammation-related neurological diseases, including epilepsy. In this regard, over the last decades, epilepsy has no longer been considered a purely neuronal pathology, since inflammatory events underlying the genesis of epilepsy have been demonstrated. This review assessed current knowledge on the use of MSCs in the treatment of epilepsy. Mostly, attention will be focused on the anti-inflammatory and immunological skills of MSCs. Understanding the mechanisms by which MSCs might modulate the severity of the disease will contribute to the development of new potential alternatives for both prophylaxis and treatment against epilepsy.  相似文献

The vulcanization of natural rubber was studied with the sulfurating agents dipentamethylene thiuram tetrasulfide (DPTT) and tetramethylene thiuram disulfide (TMTD) in the presence of tetramethyl thiuram monosulfide (TMTM). This last accelerant affects the rate and efficiency of the vulcanization as well as the structures of crosslinks formed by the two sulphur donors. It may give rise to a polymerization between adjacent double bonds and generate a inhomogeneous crosslink distribution with an adverse effect on physical properties. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Light induced catalytic processes have attracted significant attention during the last years for wastewater treatment due to their efficiency in decomposition of organic contaminants. In this study we report the synthesis of graphene oxide (GO)/ZnO hybrid layers with high photocatalytic efficiency using laser radiation. The results show that the hybrid layers exhibit much improved photodecomposition efficiency as compared to pure GO or ZnO both under UV and visible-light irradiation. The enhanced photocatalytic efficiency of the hybrid as compared to the reference pure ZnO and GO layers was attributed to the contribution of GO to the separation and transport of the photogenerated charge carriers. Additionally, under visible light irradiation the organic molecules can act as first sensitizers in the degradation process. The recyclability of the layers was also investigated through repetitive photodegradation cycles under UV- or visible-light irradiation. After consecutive degradation runs, the hybrid photocatalyst layers were still stable and retained high degradation efficiency, ensuring reusability. The photocatalytic activity of the layers was correlated with the gradual change of their chemical structure during consecutive degradation cycles. Owing to the high photodegradation efficiency, reusability, and ease of recovery the synthesised hybrid layers consisting of easily available materials are suitable for environmental purification applications.  相似文献

We develop a mathematical model able to describe the complete molecular weight distributions of polyethylene and elhylene‐vinyl acetate copolymers obtained in high pressure autoclave reactors. We apply probability generating function definitions to the mass balances of radical and polymer species in the reacting medium. We use three different definitions of probability generating functions, each one directly applicable either to the number, weight or chromatographic distributions. These probability generating functions are numerically inverted to obtain the corresponding calculated molecular weight distribution. The capabilities of two different inversion methods are compared. Predictions are compared with experimental data obtained in an industrial reactor; good agreement is obtained. The approach presented here is applicable to other types of polymerization reactors and post‐polymerization processes.  相似文献

Random copolyesters having 1,4-butanediol units were synthesized from a transesterification process between homopolymers constituted by aliphatic dicarboxylates (i.e. succinate, adipate or sebacate) and the aromatic therephthalate derivative, as verified by NMR spectroscopy. Biodegradability of resulting copolyesters was studied via enzymatic hydrolysis using Pseudomonas cepacia lipase at pH = 7.2 and 37 °C. Kinetics of degradation showed that in all cases the degradation rate decreased after 19 days of exposure. The observed glass transition temperatures, T g, of the random copolyesters showed a non-linear dependence on composition, a feature that was explained in terms of the internal stiffening effect of butylene terephthalate units. Copolymers with higher aliphatic (i.e. 50 and 70 mol-%) and methylene (i.e. adipate and sebacate units) contents showed double melting peaks in DSC thermograms. These copolyesters resulted in two different crystalline rich phases after melt-crystallization and subsequent cooling. The ratio between these phases logically depended on the predominant aliphatic or aromatic dicarboxylate content. The copolymers initially crystallized via the aromatic units through a heterogeneous nucleation and a spherulitic growth. The presence of aliphatic dicarboxylate units hindered the beginning of the crystallization process, but the overall growth kinetic constant was similar for all samples. The secondary nucleation constants were determined and showed higher values for samples with higher adipate and sebacate contents.  相似文献

Two ultrafiltration membranes with different geometries (spiral polymeric and tubular ceramic) but similar cutoffs were used to treat wastewater from a food industry. Hydrodynamic conditions were optimized by statistical methods as a strategy to get more accurate values of the critical parameters and then to produce higher water flux and minimization of membrane fouling. The validation of the optimization method was obtained by experimental critical flux determination at critical parameters. Membrane fluxes revealed significant differences during filtration. The polymeric membrane showed an optimal flux of 45.60 Lh?1 m?2 at 3.21 bar while operating at a stable time of 11.61 h, whereas optimal flux of the ceramic membrane was 32.43 Lh?1 m?2 at 3.98 bar for 16.03 h. Experimental critical flux values were only slightly lower than optimal fluxes for both membranes, showing the validity of the statistics models applied. Negligible osmotic pressure was found on the two membranes at critical flux parameters, indicating irreversible fouling for both cases. The polymeric membrane revealed strong fouling behavior and the ceramic membrane showed a weak form; the flux decline occurred first in the polymeric membrane, whereas the ceramic membrane exhibited high stability during the filtration operations. A high degree of purification of wastewater was obtained by this membrane at critical flux conditions.  相似文献

A new method suitable for the on-line monitoring of adsorption column saturation/regeneration cycles was developed based on the discovery that the electrical resistance of adsorbents changes dramatically upon adsorption and returns to its original value upon desorption, and that this change can be measured reliably. The phenomenon was demonstrated on four different adsorbent/adsorbate systems, on both single particles and in a packed bed between parallel plates. The observed phenomenon was studied on the carbon/CO2 system in more detail, because of the availability of extensive literature data. It was found that the resistance change in this system correlated with the amount of CO2 adsorbed. The correlation was used to construct an adsorption isotherm based on resistance change data.  相似文献
