The quality of visual perception with retinal prostheses strongly depends on the local selectivity. Electrode arrays at the surface of the retina should excite exclusively cells within a local area but they are expected to co-stimulate bypassing axons originating from ganglion cells of the outer regions. Long electrodes parallel to these axons are shown to be good candidates for avoiding the co-stimulation phenomenon. Efficiency of focal excitation depends on the length and resistance of the electrodes.  相似文献

For applications ranging from phase equilibria to the processing of second-generation high T c superconductor-coated-conductors, phase diagrams constructed under carbonate-free conditions are needed. Subsolidus phase equilibria of BaO-R2O3-CuO z (R = Ho) have been investigated at (810°C), 21 kPa (875°C) and 0.1 MPa (850 and 930°C) by applying controlled atmosphere methods to minimize the presence of carbonate and CO2 and H2O contamination. Under carbonate-free conditions, most of these phase diagrams are different from those reported in the literature. In this paper, we also review and compare the phase diagrams of ten BaO-R2O3-CuO z systems (R = Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Y, Ho, Er, Tm and Yb) that were previously determined in this laboratory under Among these diagrams, a distinct trend of phase formation and tie-line relationships is observed.  相似文献

The criteria used to determine electrical failure was explored during accelerated testing of underfilled flip chip joints as a function of both different thermal cycling conditions and different sampling methods. The criteria was based on resistance measurements of daisy-chained solder joints monitored in situ and by endpointing. The sensitivity of the resistance criteria was found to depend strongly on test conditions and often could not be categorized into simple pass/fail groupings. Also, extremely small resistance changes were measured for joints with through-cracks generated by fatigue. Experimental error associated with fixing the cycles to failure was minimized by monitoring the absolute changes in resistance as a function of cycling time while simultaneously measuring the temperature dependence of resistance as the joints degrade. Failure times derived from interval part monitoring closely approximated in situ monitoring, but the resistance measurements for mild cycling conditions required a high degree of accuracy. Finally, a tunneling model is proposed to explain the resistance behavior of cracked joints.  相似文献

An image analysis technique has been developed to quantitatively describe the fine vascular patterns observed in ligament tissue. The longitudinal orientational distribution and total vessel volume of India-ink-perfused blood vessel segments in normal and healing ligaments were determined. The methods involved special vascular preparation of adult rabbit knee medial collateral ligaments (MCL) by India-ink perfusion. Black and white microscope images of ink-perfused tissue sections were subjected to a thresholding procedure to binarize digitized ligament images, which were then skeletonized and analyzed for directional distribution based on the least-squares technique. Analysis of medial collateral ligaments in New Zealand White rabbits using this method has shown that scarred tissue is more vascular and has a more chaotic angular distribution of blood-vessel segments than normal ligament tissue.  相似文献

Previous studies of call admission control (CAC) in mobile communication networks focused on call blocking and call dropping mechanisms. However, achieving global optimization of the system benefit is a complicated process. In this paper, we propose a benefit optimization model that accommodates as many users as possible, while simultaneously maintaining system-wide quality of service (QoS) in terms of admission control. To clarify the CAC concept, we construct a framework of CAC policies, derive associated interference models based on the framework, and then investigate the effects of the policies on the system benefit. In addition, to solve the complicated integer programming problem, we adopt the Lagrangean relaxation approach, and employ Lagrangean multipliers to perform sensitivity analysis of several parameters. The contribution of this study is twofold: the novel problem formulation and the improvement in the system benefit. The computational results demonstrate that the system accrues more benefit as new traffic is loaded and the number of users increases. Meanwhile, the sensitivity analysis shows that proper assignment of the strength of power-controlled signals is a key factor in the global optimization of the system benefit.  相似文献

The stability and activity of electrocatalysts are fundamental in energy-related applications (e.g., hydrogen generation and energy storage). Electrocatalysts degrade over time when the active centers are not strongly anchored to the support. However, if the active centers are too strongly anchored, the activity of the electrocatalysts decreases due to reduced accessibility to reactants. Herein, a strategy is presented to balance the stability and activity of different active materials using a natural and flexible support material that can be woven and carbonized. Lotus fibers, which have surface hydroxyl and phenolic groups, high mechanical strength, and a mesoscale porosity post-pyrolysis, are used to load diverse functional metal-containing materials such as metal–organic frameworks, 2D materials, metal sulfide nanoparticles, metal ions, and high-entropy alloys. After pyrolysis, the electrocatalysts display flexibility, high catalytic performance, and long-term stability, outperforming commercial benchmarks (e.g., Pt/C) in specific scenarios for water splitting, liquid batteries, and flexible electronics.  相似文献

A framework is proposed for estimating the lifetime of wireless body area sensor network (WBASN) using probabilistic analysis and Monte Carlo simulation. WBASN implements real-time health monitoring by outfitting patients with wireless, wearable vital sign sensors. In health monitoring, the loss of critical or emergency information is a serious issue so there is a need to ensure quality of service. It is important to have an estimate of the lifetime of the network in order to replace or recharge the batteries because the loss of critical data is not acceptable. The lifetime of the WBASN is defined as the duration of time until the first node fails due to battery depletion. Heart rate and blood glucose are monitored at a central location in a managed health care environment for this evaluation of WBASN performance. A parametric model of a health monitoring network (HMN) is created with sets of random input distributions. Probabilistic analysis is used to determine the timing and distribution of node failure in the HMN.  相似文献
