Stability criteria for stochastic systems with colored multiplicative noise

Summary In this paper a particular class of stochastic systems is considered, described by linear differential equations with multiplicative colored noise parameters; it is assumed that a certain commutativity condition is true. For these systems explicit criteria are derived for the asymptotic stability of the moments of any order and also for almost sure asymptotic stability.

Stabilitätsbedingungen für stochastische Systeme mit stationären Gaußschen Parametern

Zusammenfassung In dieser Arbeit wird eine spezielle, durch lineare Differentialgleichungen mit stationären Gaußschen Parametern beschriebene Klasse stochastischer Systeme betrachtet. Vorausgesetzt wird die Gültigkeit einer bestimmten Vertauschbarkeitsbeziehung. Für diese Systeme werden explizite Bedingungen für die asymptotische Stabilität der Momente und für fast sichere Stabilität hergeleitet.

     

Immunity to rubella amongst service personnel

Starch gel electrophoresis of 55 donkey serum samples revealed three prealbumin (Pr) phenotypes temporarily designated Pr M, Pr MT and Pr T. The distribution was in agreement with a genetic theory of two codominant alleles of frequencies, PrM = 0.87 and PrT - 0.13. Variation was also observed for proteins migrating with the same rate as the Xh zones in the horse.     

Signal extraction and optical design for an advanced gravitational-wave interferometer

We present an experimental demonstration of a locking and control scheme for an interferometer using a power-recycled resonant sideband extraction configuration and show that the measured response to mirror vibrations matches an optical model. We discuss some aspects of resonant sideband extraction that are relevant to gravitational-wave detection.     

Flood regulation using nonlinear model predictive control

In this paper the flood problem of the river Demer, a river located in Belgium, is discussed. First a simplified model of the Demer basin is derived based on the conceptual reservoir modeling concept. This model was calibrated to simulations results with a more detailed full hydrodynamic model. Afterwards, the focus is shifted to a nonlinear model predictive controller (NMPC) which is based on a new semi-condensed optimization procedure combined with a line search approach. Finally, simulations are performed based on historical data in which the NMPC is compared with the current control strategy used by the local water administration. Uncertainties are added to the rainfall predictions in order to assess the robustness of the NMPC.     

Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura in a liver transplant recipient with previous primary biliary cirrhosis

The loss of immunotolerance has been implicated in the pathogenesis of both primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) and idiopathic, immune-mediated thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). An association between these two autoimmune diseases has been well described. We describe a 41-year-old woman in whom ITP developed 457 days after liver transplantation for PBC while receiving immunosuppressive medications sufficient to maintain allograft function. Our case report, the first to describe post-transplant ITP in association with PBC, demonstrates the persistence of the underlying immune dysregulation of PBC after transplantation. The practice of decreasing the dosage of immunosuppressive medication to maintenance levels after transplantation may unmask the effects of this defect in immunotolerance.
