Head trauma: CT scan interpretation by radiology residents versus staff radiologists

The determination of diagnostic features in recorded heart sounds was investigated with Carpentier-Edwards (CE) bioprosthetic valves. Morphological features, extracted using the Choi-Williams distribution, achieved between 96 and 61% correct classification. The time-scale wavelet-transform feature set achieved 100% correct classification with native valve populations, and 87% with the CE replacements.     

Metastasis of malignant melanoma of the nasal mucosa to the small intestine

Malignant melanoma of the mucous membranes is rare and has a very poor prognosis. When localized in the nose, the tumor becomes apparent late in the course of the disease with nasal obstruction and epistaxis. Distant metastases are uncommon, but any organ of the body can be involved. A case of a malignant melanoma of the nasal mucosa with metastasis to the small intestine is presented, and the natural history of the metastatic disease is discussed.     

Urinary excretion of vanilmandelic acid in the glossalgia syndrome

Under observation there were 78 patients aged 41 to 70 years suffering from the glossalgia syndrome, as well as 25 clinically healthy subjects. An activation of the sympathoadrenal system was revealed in the patients. This was ascertained on the basis of the data on vanillylmandelic acid excretion with the urine. The excretion of that acid is known to be dependent on the intensity of the paraesthesias, the duration of the ailment and the character of concurrent visceral diseases. The results obtained are regarded as evidences of the participation of the vegetative nervous system in the mechanism of the glossalgia syndrome development.     

A Jordan control canonical form for singular systems

A canonical form for controllable singular systems modulo restricted system equivalence is presented. The canonical form respects the decomposition of the singular system into a regular and an impulsive part. The construction is based on Popov's control canonical form and on the Jordan canonical form recently developed by Hinrichsen and Prätzel-Wolters. Continuity properties are analysed and the cellular partition of the orbit space induced by the canonical form is briefly discussed.     

Magnito-, electro- and echocardiography in detecting symptoms of the "hypertensive heart"

The study compared diagnostic potential of magnetocardiography (MCG), electrocardiography (ECG) and echocardiography (echo-CG) in 18 patients with arterial hypertension (AH). 32 healthy males served as control. Elements of MCG from normal subjects have been analyzed morphologically in 36 points of precordial leads. Left ventricular hypertrophy was registered at echo-CG, MCG, ECG in 11 (61%), 16 (84%) and 7 (34%) of the AH patients, respectively. Left atrial hypertrophy was discovered primarily by echo-CG and MCG. Defects in ventricular repolarization were recorded by MCg in 7 (39%) patients basing on MCG, echo-CG and rarely ECG signs of left ventricular hypertrophy. MCG is recommended as an effective tool in diagnosis of "hypertensive heart".     

挠性电路板引脚嵌合部无铅镀层的锡须生长

以民用挠性印制电路板(FPC)引脚和连接器嵌合部无铅镀层为对象,通过研究引脚上的Ni/Sn无铅镀层的显微形貌和锡须尺寸,探讨了Ni/Sn无铅镀层的长期可靠性。结果表明,在25℃,RH为45%～55%的条件下,挠性印制电路板引脚和连接器嵌合部无铅镀层上生长的锡须呈现针状、柱状等多种不同的显微形貌,其中大部分是针状锡须,少量针状锡须的长度已超过了50μm临界值,很可能因锡须桥接引起电流泄漏和短路,对FPC互连可靠性产生威胁。抑制少量超长的针状晶须的生长,是防止风险的关键。

由于金属间化合物的生成,会使金铝键合的接触电性能受到影响.从金属间化合物生成这一单一失效机理出发,以失效物理为理论基础,通过恒定高温加速和高温步进加速试验,针对不同温度下的金铝键合寿命做出评价,并给出键合寿命评价流程.     

Depression in Parkinson's disease is not accompanied by more corticotropin-releasing hormone expressing neurons in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus

BACKGROUND: Depression is frequently encountered in Parkinson's disease (PD). In addition, more than half of the PD patients have a disturbed dexamethasone suppression test, which is associated with increased activity of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) neurons. We recently found an increase in CRH neuron number, CRH-messenger RNA, and vasopressin colocalization in CRH neurons in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) of depressed patients, which may be involved in the pathogenesis of depression. METHODS: The number of neurons expressing CRH was determined in the PVN of 6 depressed PD patients with a high score (> or = 13) on the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, 6 nondepressed PD patients, and 6 controls. RESULTS: The three groups did not differ in the number of neurons expressing CRH. CONCLUSIONS: We hypothesize that activation of CRH neurons in the PVN, as we recently observed in idiopathic depression, does not play an essential role in depression in PD.
