The design of industrial distillation columns is normally based on estimated values of plate efficiencies. Several different plate efficiency models have been proposed in the literature and among them the one presented by Murphree is widely used in spite of its limitations. However the difficulties involved in the use of Murphree's model are not present if Hausen's model is considered.In the present paper a comparative study of the two models considering both binary and multicomponent systems is presented. Phosphorylation of GAP-43 (neuromodulin) by protein kinase C (PKC) occurs at a single site, serine41. In vivo, phosphorylation is induced after initiation of axonogenesis and is confined to distal axons and growth cones. Within individual growth cones, phosphorylation is nonuniformly distributed. Here, we have used high-resolution video-enhanced microscopy of cultured dorsal root ganglia neurons together with immunocytochemistry with a monoclonal antibody that recognizes PKC-phosphorylated GAP-43 to correlate the distribution of phosphorylated GAP-43 with growth cone behavior. In "quiescent," nontranslocating growth cones, phosphorylated GAP-43 was confined to the proximal neurite and the central organelle-rich region, and was low in organelle-poor lamellae. However, levels in lamellae were elevated when they became motile. Conversely, levels of phosphorylated GAP-43 were low in either lamellae that were actively retracting or in the central organelle-rich region and proximal neurite of growth cones that had totally collapsed. The results suggest a mechanism whereby phosphorylation of GAP-43 by PKC, potentially in response to extracellular signals, could direct the functional behavior of the growth cone.  相似文献

This paper reports on the Xenon project’s use of formal methods. Xenon is a higher-assurance secure hypervisor based on re-engineering the Xen open-source hypervisor. The Xenon project used formal specifications both for assurance and as guides for security re-engineering. We formally modelled the fundamental definition of security, the hypercall interface behaviour, and the internal modular design. We used three formalisms: CSP, Z, and Circus for this work. Circus is a combination of Standard Z, CSP with its semantics given in Hoare and He’s unifying theories of programming. Circus is suited for both event-based and state-based modelling. Here, we report our experiences to date with using these formalisms for assurance.  相似文献

A novel multi-scale approach for extending the one-dimensional turbulence (ODT) model of [A.R. Kerstein. One-dimensional turbulence: model formulation and application to homogeneous turbulence, shear flows, and buoyant stratified flows, J. Fluid Mech. 392 (1999) 277] to treat turbulent flow in three-dimensional (3D) domains is described. In this model, here called ODTLES, 3D aspects of the flow are captured by embedding three, mutually orthogonal, one-dimensional ODT domain arrays within a coarser 3D mesh. The ODTLES model is obtained by developing a consistent approach for dynamically coupling the different ODT line sets to each other and to the large scale processes that are resolved on the 3D mesh. The model is implemented computationally and its performance is tested by performing simulations of decaying isotropic turbulence at two different Reynolds numbers and comparing to the experimental data of [H. Kang, S. Chester, C. Meneveau. Decaying turbulence in an active-grid-generated flow and comparisons with large-eddy simulations, J. Fluid Mech. 480 (2003) 129; G. Comte-Bellot, S. This paper presents an experiment in knowledge-intensive programming within a general problem-solving production-system architecture called Soar. In Soar, knowledge is encoded within a set of problem spaces, which yields a system capable of reasoning from first principles. Expertise consists of additional rules that guide complex problem-space searches and substitute for expensive problem-space operators. The resulting system uses both knowledge and search when relevant. Expertise knowledge is acquired either by having it programmed, or by a chunking mechanism that automatically learns new rules reflecting the results implicit in the knowledge of the problem spaces. The approach is demonstrated on the computer-system configuration task, the task performed by the expert system R1.  相似文献

In this paper, we describe the organization of a rule-based system, SPAM, that uses map and domain-specific knowledge to interpret airport scenes. This research investigates the use of a rule-based system for the control of image processing and interpretation of results with respect to a world model, as well as the representation of the world model within an image/map database. We present results on the interpretation of a high-resolution airport scene wvhere the image segmentation has been performed by a human, and by a region-based image segmentation program. The results of the system's analysis is characterized by the labeling of individual regions in the image and the collection of these regions into consistent interpretations of the major components of an airport model. These interpretations are ranked on the basis of their overall spatial and structural consistency. Some evaluations based on the results from three evolutionary versions of SPAM are presented.  相似文献

In this paper, conceptual modeling as well as numerical simulation of two-phase flow in deep, deformable geological formations induced by CO2 injection are presented. The conceptual approach is based on balance equations for mass, momentum and energy completed by appropriate constitutive relations for the fluid phases as well as the solid matrix. Within the context of the primary effects under consideration, the fluid motion will be expressed by the extended Darcy's law for two phase flow. Additionally, constraint conditions for the partial saturations and the pressure fractions of carbon dioxide and brine are defined. To characterize the stress state in the solid matrix, the effective stress principle is applied. Furthermore, the interaction of fluid and solid phases is illustrated by constitutive models for capillary pressure, porosity and permeability as functions of saturation. Based on this conceptual model, a coupled system of nonlinear differential equations for two-phase flow in a deformable porous matrix (H2M model) is formulated. As the displacement vector acts as primary variable for the solid matrix, multiphase flow is simulated using both pressure/pressure or pressure/saturation formulations. An object-oriented finite element method is used to solve the multi-field problem numerically. The capabilities of the model and the numerical tools to treat complex processes during CO2 sequestration are demonstrated on three benchmark examples: (1) a 1-D case to investigate the influence of variable fluid properties, (2) 2-D vertical axi-symmetric cross-section to study the interaction between hydraulic and deformation processes, and (3) 3-D to test the stability and computational costs of the H2M model for real applications.  相似文献

Adhesion plays an important role in the final properties of nanocomposites. This study explored the surface interaction of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) and the effect of CNC sources on adhesion between individual CNCs and the Si tip of an AFM cantilever using a force mapping technique called FMap. The adhesion between CNCs and a Si tip from five different sources has been studied: cotton, Whatman filter paper, hemp, softwood chemical kraft pulp, and softwood-dissolving pulp (alistaple). Mica was used as the background substrate to act as an internal standard. This study’s findings suggest that adhesion is not the same for all CNCs. Transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy were used to determine the size and shape of each CNC. The experimental quantitative data showed that adhesion between CNCs and the Si tip has a close correlation with the diameter of the CNCs. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirmed the presence of sulfate groups on the surface of the CNCs and a correlation between adhesion and surface chemistry of the CNCs was observed.  相似文献

The interest in this article is in the automated construction of dynamic policies for workflow situations in cooperative environments. The system described in this article operates on the events that are recorded in solving workflow problems. Nitrobenzene (CNC-1), trifluoromethyl benzene (CNC-2) modified and polystyrene-grafted (CNC-g) cellulose nanocrystals in polystyrene (PS)-N,N dimethylformamide (DMF) solutions were electrospun and collected as stretched and aligned fibers on a rotating drum. Scanning electron microscope pictures showed significant alignment in the case of unmodified and nitrobenzene-modified CNC-1/PS nanocomposite fibers once the linear speed of rotor reached to 15 m s−1. Fiber diameter decrease was more strong with rotor speed increase in the case of trifluoromethyl benzene modified (CNC-2) and polystyrene-grafted (CNC-g) cellulose nanocrystals/PS systems. Dynamic mechanical analysis including storage and elastic modulus of electrospun-oriented fibers were performed on surface-modified and polymer-grafted CNC/PS samples. According to α transition peak, the increase in the glass-transition temperature with filler concentration was the highest in polymer-grafted CNC-g/PS composite fibers. It was due to the interpenetration of grafted polymer brushes and free polymer chains in continuous phase and resulted in restrictions of motions of polymer chains in the PS matrix. The elastic moduli of nitrobenzene (CNC-1) and trifluoromethyl benzene (CNC-2)-modified CNC-filled PS composite fibers agreed well with percolation model, which indicates the CNC–CNC interactions and network formation with an increase in concentration. Magnitude of the elastic modulus of polymer grafted CNC-g at 0.33 vol % in PS was significantly higher than the prediction from percolation theory. It was due the immobilized polymer chains around CNC-g particles. However, grafted polymer chains, at higher CNC concentrations acted like stickers among CNC particles and caused CNC agglomerates with entrapped free polystyrene from the matrix, thus caused a decrease in the elastic modulus. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
