Silica aerogel is a sol-gel prepared material characterized by high porosity and large inner surface area. Aerogels can be prepared with a high transparency and low thermal conductivity, giving a material excellent for application as transparent thermal insulator. The traditional route to prepare silica aerogels is by formation of an alcogel by hydrolysis and condensation of silicon alkoxides followed by supercritical drying in an autoclave at high pressure (–100 atm). Unfortunately, this process is expensive and might be dangerous, so drying methods have been developed that operate under ambient conditions. In previous work, we have shown that gels can be strengthened and stiffened by providing new monomers to the alcogel giving xerogels with similar properties as aerogels by drying at ambient pressure (porosity up to 90%). This method of obtaining ambient pressure dried aerogels will be described and special emphasis will be given on the effect of the initial gel structure on the preparation of the xerogels.  相似文献

A design concept of PbBi cooled direct contact boiling water small fast reactor (PBWFR) has been formulated with some design parameters identified. Water is injected into hot PbBi above the core, and direct contact boiling takes place in chimneys. Boiling bubbles rise due to buoyancy effects, which works as a lift pump for PbBi circulation. The generated steam passes through separators and dryers for the removal of PbBi droplets, and then flows into turbines for the generation of electricity. The system pressure of 7 MPa is as the same as that of the conventional boiling water reactors (BWRs). The outlet steam is superheated by 10°C to avoid the accumulation of condensate on a PbBi free surface in the reactor vessel. The control rods are inserted from above, which is different from the original concept. This insertion was chosen since the seal of steam at the top of the reactor vessel is technically much easier than the seal of PbBi at the bottom of the reactor vessel. The electric power of 150 MWe may be the maximum which is practically possible as a small reactor with economic competitiveness to conventional LWRs. A two-region core is designed. A decrease in reactivity was estimated to be 1.5%dk/kk′ for 15 years. A fuel assembly has 271 fuel rods with 12.0 mm in diameter and 15.9 mm in pitch in a hexagonal wrapper tube. The design limit of cladding temperature is specified to be 650°C for compatibility of cladding material with PbBi. As a result, the PbBi core outlet temperature becomes 460°C. The PbBi temperature rise in the core is 150°C. The conditions of the secondary coolant steam are as the same as those of conventional BWRs with thermal efficiency of 33%. The core is designed to have the breeding ratio of 1.1 and the refueling interval of 15 years as a reactor with a long-life core. The effect of adding a t-butyl group to the core molecule of CyMe4-BTBP, with the aim of improving solubility in organic diluents, has been studied with regard to the extraction of Am(III) and Eu(III) from HNO3. Synthesis of t-Bu-CyMe4-BTBP is described in detail. Metal nitrates are extracted from nitric acid in the form of 1:2 complexes, M(NO3)3(BTBP)2. Whether in 1-octanol, kerosene, or cyclohexanone diluents, t-Bu-CyMe4-BTBP extracts with larger distribution ratios but with slower kinetics than CyMe4-BTBP. The general trends previously observed for CyMe4-BTBP regarding the diluent and modifier influence were also found for t-Bu-CyMe4-BTBP.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to quantify the potential level of protection that secondary disinfection may provide in response to an intrusion event. Although several uncertainties exist regarding intrusion events, this study presents an analysis of the inactivation provided by disinfectant residuals by using a distribution system model, inactivation and disinfectant decay models, and conservative assumptions based on available data. A variety of conditions were modeled, including a range of water quality parameters (pH, temperature); inactivation of two microorganisms, Giardia and E. coli O157:H7; and intrusion water dilution ratios. Despite the assumptions inherent in the model, several generalizations were derived from the study. A free chlorine residual of 0.5?mg/L may be insufficient to provide adequate control of disinfectant-resistant Giardia even at low pH (6.5) and high temperature (25°C) conditions that enhance chlorine effectiveness. For E. coli, an organism of “average” disinfectant resistance relative to others, a residual of 0.5?mg/L may provide ample protection against intrusion even assuming that the chlorine residual is reduced within several minutes, such as would be predicted to occur with sewage intrusion at levels below 1% of the total flow. Importantly, chloramines may have a negligible benefit in terms of protecting against intrusion for even relatively susceptible organisms such as E. coli. Consequently, systems should consider protection against intrusion when choosing their secondary disinfectant.  相似文献

When people discuss their memories, what one person says can influence what another person reports. In 3 studies, participants were shown sets of stimuli and then given recognition memory tests to measure the effect of one person's response on another's. The 1st study (n=24) used word recognition with participant-confederate pairs and found that the effect of confederate responses on participant responses was larger for previously unseen items than for previously seen items (ωp=.23). This finding was replicated in the 2nd study, which used photographs of cars (n=24). In the 3rd study (n=54), which used photographs of faces with participant pairs, the effect was also larger for unseen items. Results indicate that people rely more on other people's memories for unremembered objects than for remembered objects. In this case study, we investigated the conversion of an existing Swedish kraft pulp mill to the production of dissolving pulp, with export of electricity, lignin, and a hemicellulose stream suitable for upgrading. By increasing the level of heat integration of the mill, it was possible to achieve self-sufficiency in terms of steam and to produce significant amounts of excess steam. The excess steam could facilitate the integration of a lignin separation plant or be used for power generation. The production of dissolving pulp requires a higher input of wood that is required for the same level of pulp production as is achieved with kraft pulp. For the studied mill, the batch digester was the main limitation for pulp production. Nevertheless, if the digester capacity was increased, then the level of pulp production could be maintained. In addition, the recovery boiler, causticization plant, and evaporation plant had sufficient capacities for preserving the same production level upon conversion, and could easily be upgraded to a certain degree through relatively simple measures for an increase in pulp production. However, increasing pulp production beyond that limit required extensive upgrades or investments in new equipment, which negatively affected annual earnings. Annual earnings were found to be also dependent upon the level of heat integration, type of by-product, and the costs for lignin and electricity. However, our results suggest that the optimal process configuration is more dependent upon other factors, such as the long-term vision of the company and policy instruments.  相似文献

Fracture toughness of the lean duplex stainless steel LDX 2101   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Fracture toughness testing was performed on the recently developed lean duplex stainless steel LDX 2101 (EN 1.4162, UNS S32101). The results were evaluated by master curve analysis, including deriving a reference temperature. The master curve approach, originally developed for ferritic steels, has been used successfully. The reference temperature corresponds to a fracture toughness of 100 MPa√m, which characterizes the onset of cleavage cracking at elastic or elastic-plastic instabilities. The reference temperature, T 0, was −112 °C and −92 °C for the base and weld materials, respectively. In addition, the fracture toughness is compared with impact toughness results. Complementary crack tip opening displacements (CTODs) have also been calculated. The toughness properties found in traditional duplex stainless steels (DSS) are generally good. The current study verifies a high fracture toughness for both base and weld materials and for the low alloyed grade LDX 2101. Even though the fracture toughness was somewhat lower than for duplex stainless steel 2205, it is still sufficiently high for most low-temperature applications.  相似文献
