The presence of ochratoxin A (OA) in human milk samples from different regions in Norway was investigated to determine the level of infant exposure to OA from human milk. OA was found in 38 (33%) of 115 human milk samples (range 10-130 ng l(-1)). It was found that 2-26% of the samples contained more than 40 ng l(-1) OA, which will cause a daily intake of OA from human milk exceeding the suggested tolerable dose of 5 ng kg(-1) body weight. There is a growing need for immediately available material with appropriate qualities for reconstruction of large bone defects. Autologous spongy bone grafts are optimal as to biocompatibility, but are in short supply. Allogenic and xenogenic bone grafts evoke an immunological reaction after implantation and are not biocompatible. In the last thirty years ceramic implants and composites have been developed for bone substitution. New calcium phosphate bone substitutes undergo processes of resorption and precipitation of carbonate apatite that play a part in formation of new bone. These materials are easy to use because of their pastelike consistence. Resorption properties are influenced by particle size, crystallinity and composition. So far, no serious adverse reactions were reported. More clinical experience is necessary especially with composites and combinations with antibiotics, bone growth factors and collagen, to specify the place of these modern calcium phosphates in bone replacement and bone substitution.  相似文献

The small and large vessel disease associated with diabetes mellitus is responsible for its morbidity and mortality. Although much of the pathogenesis remains to be clarified, the role of hyperinsulinemia and hyperglycemia per se in the progression of vascular disease is beginning to emerge. Hyperinsulinemia increases the release of very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) and may also be responsible for the low HDL cholesterol levels in patients with diabetes. Hyperinsulinemia also contributes to increased blood pressure, which independently promotes vascular disease. High glucose concentrations have direct influence on intracellular signal transduction, including effects on sorbitol pathway and associated changes of pyridine nucleotides, the de novo synthesis of diacylglycerol with subsequent stimulation of protein kinase C, and possibly changes in the cellular generation of myoinositol. Hyperglycemia also exerts long-lasting changes in cellular function, which result from non-enzymatic glycosylation of matrix and membrane proteins with subsequent binding of these proteins to specific receptors. These receptors are termed the advanced glycosylation end-products (AGE) receptors. Their activation leads to an increased release of cytokines and growth factors including PDGF, interleukins, TNF-alpha, and TGF-beta, all of which may act concomitantly in the disease process.  相似文献

Previous reports indicate that venous thrombosis is an infrequent problem in patients with HIV infection. Despite this, various HIV-related factors have been proposed as potentially thrombogenic and an HIV-related hypercoagulability has been suggested. At the present time, there exists no consensus of opinion regarding prophylaxis against venous thrombosis for hospitalized patients with HIV. This article aims to provide an overview of venous thrombosis in HIV infection with particular reference to published and personal evidence for possible risk factors and their implications for prophylaxis.  相似文献

The problems arising from the use of nonlinear multipliers in multilayer neural network synapse structures are discussed. The errors arising from the neglect of nonlinearities are shown and the effect of training in eliminating these errors is discussed. A method for predicting the final errors resulting from nonlinearities is described. Our approximate results are compared with the results from circuit simulations of an actual multiplier circuit.  相似文献

Oxygen-derived free radicals play a critical role in atherogenesis and reperfusion injury. The present experiment evaluated the effects of carvedilol, a new beta adrenoreceptor blocker with potent free radical-scavenging activity, on myocardial ischemia and reperfusion injury in a hypercholesterolemic rabbit model. New Zealand rabbits were fed a normal diet, a high-cholesterol diet, or a high-cholesterol diet supplemented with 1200 ppm carvedilol or propranolol. Eight weeks later, the rabbits were subjected to 60 min of myocardial ischemia followed by 60 min of reperfusion. The nontreated cholesterol-fed animals experienced greater cardiac damage after ischemia and reperfusion than rabbits fed a normal diet (necrosis 51% +/- 4% vs. 28% +/- 3% in the normal-diet group, P < .01). In addition, nontreated cholesterol-fed rabbits showed a significantly decreased vasorelaxant response to ACh in U-46619-precontracted aortic rings (56% +/- 5% vs 90% +/- 3% in the control group, P < .001). Treatment with propranolol neither preserved endothelial function after cholesterol feeding nor reduced neutrophil accumulation in ischemic-reperfused myocardial tissue. Propranolol treatment did significantly decrease HR, pressure-rate index and infarct size (necrosis 33% +/- 4%). Despite their having essentially identical effects on HR and pressure-rate index, carvedilol exerted more profound cardiac protective effects than propranolol (necrosis 19% +/- 3%). Moreover, carvedilol treatment significantly preserved aortic endothelial function and markedly reduced neutrophil accumulation in ischemic-reperfused myocardial tissue. These results indicate that in addition to its beta blocking activity, the antioxidant and endothelial protective activities of carvedilol contributed significantly to its cardiac protective effects after ischemia and reperfusion.  相似文献

In this article, the internal dynamics of flat nonlinear SISO systems with respect to a real non-flat output is investigated in the coordinates of the flat output and its derivatives. Fas ligand (FasL) is produced by activated T cells and natural killer cells and it induces apoptosis (programmed cell death) in target cells through the death receptor Fas/Apol/CD95. One important role of FasL and Fas is to mediate immune-cytotoxic killing of cells that are potentially harmful to the organism, such as virus-infected or tumour cells. Here we report the discovery of a soluble decoy receptor, termed decoy receptor 3 (DcR3), that binds to FasL and inhibits FasL-induced apoptosis. The DcR3 gene was amplified in about half of 35 primary lung and colon tumours studied, and DcR3 messenger RNA was expressed in malignant tissue. Thus, certain tumours may escape FasL-dependent immune-cytotoxic attack by expressing a decoy receptor that blocks FasL.  相似文献
