Endogenous allantoin derives from the breakdown of tissue nucleic acids. This study examined the effect of changes in protein supply on endogenous allantoin excretion by sheep. The animals were nourished by infusions of volatile fatty acids into the rumen and casein into the abomasum, thus avoiding ruminal microbial fermentation (i.e., no supply of exogenous nucleic acids). While a constant energy supply was maintained, the protein supply was altered in one of two ways: 1) changed from 0 to 3000 mg casein-N/kg metabolic weight (W0.75) per day in progressive steps; or 2) completely removed from an initial constant level [500 mg N/(kg W0.75.d)]. With the first alteration, endogenous allantoin excretion was not directly affected by the daily N input or N retention, but was linearly correlated with the cumulative N retention. With the second alteration, allantoin excretion increased (35-145%) on the first day after removal of the protein supply and then fell to a level equivalent to, or lower than, that before protein removal. The results suggest that the changes in endogenous allantoin excretion may reflect remodeling of the metabolic state of the animal during periods when protein supply fluctuates.  相似文献

Cardiac transplantation entails surgical disruption of the sympathetic nerve fibres from their somata, resulting in sympathetic denervation. In order to investigate the occurrence of sympathetic re-innervation, neurotransmitter scintigraphy using the norepinephrine analogue iodine-123 metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) was performed in 15 patients 2-69 months after transplantation. In addition, norepinephrine content and immunohistochemical reactions of antibodies to Schwann cell-associated S100 protein, to neuron-specific enolase (NSE) and to norepinephrine were examined in 34 endomyocardial biopsies of 29 patients 1-88 months after transplantation. Anterobasal 123I-MIBG uptake indicating partial sympathetic re-innervation could be shown in 40% of the scintigraphically investigated patients 37-69 months after transplantation. In immunohistochemical studies 83% of the patients investigated 1-72 months after transplantation showed nerve fibres in their biopsies but not positive reaction to norepinephrine. Significant norepinephrine content indicating re-innervation could not be detected in any biopsy. It was concluded that in spite of the lack of norepinephrine content there seemed to be immunohistological and scintigraphic evidence of sympathetic re-innervation. An explanation for this contradictory finding may be the reduced or missing norepinephrine storage ability compared to the restored uptake ability of regenerated sympathetic nerve fibres.  相似文献

The color stability of betacyanine from prickly pear was determined in the fruit juice at temperatures up to 90 °C. The degradation rates were dependent on pigment concentration, being slower for higher concentrations. The lack of a significant oxygen effect or inhibitory action of ascorbic acid did not support autooxidation as the exclusive chemical process responsible for decolorization.  相似文献
