The photodegradation rate of sulphadimethoxine (SMT) in water was studied under polychromatic UV light, in a bench scale apparatus. SMT photolysis was carried out at pH levels of 2.5, 6.5 and 10 to study the impact of acid base properties on the degradation of SMT. The highest SMT photolysis fluence based rate was found at pH=2.5 (k=7.22x10(-4) cm2/mJ) and the lowest rate at pH=10 (k=4.72x10(-4) cm2/mJ), thus the reaction rate decreases with an increase in pH between pH values of 2.5-10. Results indicated that direct photolysis is not satisfactory for degradation of SMT by polychromatic UV lamp as a fluence of approximately 7,000 mJ/cm2 is needed to break down 99% of SMT at pH 6.5. The photodegradation products of SMT were studied at various pH values. Photodegradation of SMT results in dissimilar relative amounts of intermediates formed at different pH values which may exert a photon demand and impact on SMT photodegradation rate.  相似文献

Municipal solid waste (MSW) recycling targets have been set nationally and in many states. Unfortunately, the definitions of recycling, rates of recycling, and the appropriate components of MSW vary. MSW recycling has been found to be costly for most municipalities compared to landfill disposal. MSW recycling policy should be determined by the cost to the community and to society more generally. In particular, recycling is a good policy only if environmental impacts and the resources used to collect, sort, and recycle a material are less than the environmental impacts and resources needed to provide equivalent virgin material plus the resources needed to dispose of the postconsumer material safely. From a review of the existing economic experience with recycling and an analysis of the environmental benefits (including estimation of external social costs), we find that, for most communities, curbside recycling is only justifiable for some postconsumer waste, such as aluminum and other metals. We argue that alternatives to curbside recycling collection should be explored, including product takeback for products with a toxic content (such as batteries) or product redesign to permit more effective product remanufacture.  相似文献

This paper investigates the relationship between Turkish aggregate electricity consumption, GDP and electricity prices in order to forecast future Turkish aggregate electricity demand. To achieve this, an aggregate electricity demand function for Turkey is estimated by applying the structural time series technique to annual data over the period 1960 to 2008. The results suggest that GDP, electricity prices and a UEDT (Underlying Energy Demand Trend) are all important drivers of Turkish electricity demand. The estimated income and price elasticities are found to be 0.17 and −0.11 respectively with the estimated UEDT found to be generally upward sloping (electricity using) but at a generally decreasing rate. Based on the estimated equation, and different forecast assumptions, it is predicted that Turkish aggregate electricity demand will be somewhere between 259 TWh and 368 TWh in 2020.  相似文献

Research is reviewed on 6 theoretical propositions central to psychodynamic psychotherapy: (1) The establishment of an alliance is important to successful outcome; (2) the patient displays a central relationship theme (transference); (3) transference interpretations are helpful; (4) the therapist aims at accurate interpretations of the transference; (5) the patient gains understanding of self and the relationship pattern; and (6) the patient's improvement is reflected in changes in the relationship pattern, although the pattern is still evident. We suggest concepts that are in need of research development: internalization, resistance, working through, self-understanding and insight, and the therapist's adherence to recommended techniques. RNA sites that contain unpaired or mismatched nucleotides can be interaction sites for other macromolecules. C1054, a virtually universally conserved nucleotide in the 16 S (small subunit) ribosomal RNA of Escherichia coli, is part of a highly conserved bulge in helix 34, which has been located at the decoding site of the ribosome. This helix has been implicated in several translational events, including peptide chain termination and decoding accuracy. Here, we observed interesting differences in phenotype associated with the three base substitutions at, and the deletion of, nucleotide C1054. The phenotypes examined include suppression of nonsense codons on different media and at different temperatures, lethality conditioned by temperature and level of expression of the mutant rRNA, ribosome profiles upon centrifugation through sucrose density gradients, association of mutant 30 S subunits with 50 S subunits, and effects on the action of tRNA suppressor mutants. Some of our findings contradict previously reported properties of individual mutants. Particularly notable is our finding that the first reported 16 S rRNA suppressor of UGA mutations was not a C1054 deletion but rather the base substitution C1054A. After constructing deltaC1054 by site-directed mutagenesis, we observed, among other differences, that it does not suppress any of the trpA mutations previously reported to be suppressed by the original UGA suppressor. In general, our results are consistent with the suggestion that the termination codon readthrough effects of mutations at nucleotide 1054 are the result of defects in peptide chain termination rather than of decreases in general translational accuracy. The phenotypic heterogeneity associated with different mutations at this one nucleotide position may be related to the mechanisms of involvement of this nucleotide, the two-nucleotide bulge, and/or helix 34 in particular translational events. In particular, previous indications from other laboratories of conformational changes associated with this region are consistent with differential effects of 1054 mutations on RNA-RNA or RNA-protein interactions. Finally, the association of a variety of phenotypes with different changes at the same nucleotide may eventually shed light on speculations about the coevolution of parts of ribosomal RNA with other translational macromolecules.  相似文献

Heterotrimeric G proteins have been implicated in the regulation of intracellular protein transport, but their mechanism of action remains unclear. In vivo, secretion of chromogranin B, tagged with the green fluorescent protein, was inhibited by the addition of a general activator of trimeric G proteins (AlF4-) to stably transfected Vero cells and resulted in an accumulation of the tagged protein in the Golgi apparatus. In an in vitro assay that reconstitutes intra-Golgi protein transport, we find that a membrane-bound and AlF4--sensitive factor is involved in the fusion reaction. To determine whether this effect is mediated by a heterotrimeric G protein localized to COPI-coated transport vesicles, we determined the presence of G proteins on these vesicles and found that they were segregated relative to the donor membranes. Because G proteins do not have an obvious sorting, retention, or retrieval signal, we considered the possibility that other interactions might be responsible for this segregation. In agreement with this, we found that trimeric G proteins from isolated Golgi membranes were partially insoluble in Triton X-100. Identification of the proteins that interact with the heterotrimeric G proteins in the Golgi-derived detergent-insoluble complex might help to reveal the regulation of protein secretion mediated by heterotrimeric G proteins.  相似文献

An Fe-doped GaN buffer layer was employed in the growth of AlGaN/GaN high-electron mobility transistors (HEMTs) on Si substrates. In order to investigate the effects of an Fe-doped GaN buffer on OFF-state breakdown characteristics, HEMT devices with an Fe-doped GaN buffer on Si substrates were fabricated along with conventional devices utilizing an unintentionally doped GaN buffer on Si substrates. The device characteristics were compared. While HEMT devices with the conventional structure showed an extremely unstable OFF-state breakdown behavior due to punchthrough to the Si substrate, it was demonstrated that an Fe-doped GaN buffer layer on a Si substrate successfully suppressed the premature failure caused by Si-induced breakdown. As a result, the AlGaN/GaN HEMTs with an Fe-doped GaN buffer on Si substrates exhibited much more consistent and enhanced breakdown voltages, when compared with the conventional devices. Consequently, it is highly desirable that AlGaN/GaN HEMTs on Si substrates have an Fe-doped GaN buffer layer in order to achieve stable and robust OFF-state breakdown characteristics  相似文献

Ratings by 44 therapists in 4 modalities (cognitive, supportive-expressive, individual drug counseling, and group drug counseling) were obtained during one of the largest outcome trials ever conducted, the National Collaborative Cocaine Treatment Study. Views of the treatments, desired changes, and influences on implementation were studied. Therapists were highly positive about the treatments. However, their likelihood of using them in the future without modification was low, and they viewed them as too short. Supervision was perceived as more important than manuals and taping of sessions as more important than adherence scales. It took therapists an average of 8 months to feel comfortable with the treatments. New learning was therapists' primary motivation, more than extrinsic factors such as pay.
