1. A study has been made of the effect of neocuproine, a specific Cu(I) chelator, on vasodilator responses of rat isolated perfused tail artery to two nitrosothiols: S-nitroso-N-acetyl-D,L-penicillamine (SNAP) and S-nitroso-glutathione (GSNO). 2. Bolus injections (10 microl) of SNAP or GSNO (10(-7)-10(-3) M) were delivered into the lumen of perfused vessels pre-contracted with sufficient phenylephrine (1-7 microM) to develop pressures of 100-120 mmHg. Two kinds of experiment were made: SNAP and GSNO were either (a) pre-mixed with neocuproine (10(-4) M) and then injected into arteries; or (b) vessels were continuously perfused with neocuproine (10(-5) M) and then injected with either pure SNAP or GSNO. 3. In each case, neocuproine significantly attenuated vasodilator responses to both nitrosothiols, although the nature of the inhibitory effect differed in the two types of experiment. We conclude that the ability of exogenous nitrosothiols to relax vascular smooth muscle in our ex vivo model is dependent upon a Cu(I) catalyzed process. Evidence is presented which suggests that a similar Cu(I)-dependent mechanism is responsible for the release of NO from endogenous nitrosothiols and that this process may assist in maintaining vasodilator tone in vivo.  相似文献

A pattern search optimization method is applied to the generation of optimal artificial neural networks (ANNs). Optimization is performed using a mixed variable extension to the generalized pattern search method. This method offers the advantage that categorical variables, such as neural transfer functions and nodal connectivities, can be used as parameters in optimization. When used together with a surrogate, the resulting algorithm is highly efficient for expensive objective functions. Results demonstrate the effectiveness of this method in optimizing an ANN for the number of neurons, the type of transfer function, and the connectivity among neurons. The optimization method is applied to a chemistry approximation of practical relevance. In this application, temperature and a chemical source term are approximated as functions of two independent parameters using optimal ANNs. Comparison of the performance of optimal ANNs with conventional tabulation methods demonstrates equivalent accuracy by considerable savings in memory storage. The architecture of the optimal ANN for the approximation of the chemical source term consists of a fully connected feedforward network having four nonlinear hidden layers and 117 synaptic weights. An equivalent representation of the chemical source term using tabulation techniques would require a 500 x 500 grid point discretization of the parameter space.  相似文献

The treatment of tracheo-bronchial stenosis or tracheomalacia is mainly carried out by means of resection or tracheoplastic operative strategies. Since the introduction of metal-mesh stents, a definitive endoluminal therapy has to be considered under new aspects. Six patients with malignant stenosis or tracheomalacia due to compression were treated by implantation of Palmaz- or Wallstents. Immediately after the implantation, patients were relieved from dyspnoea, the forced inspiratory volume-1 (FIV1) was normalized. All implanted stents were well tolerated, even in the long-time follow-up (19 months). Bronchoscopic control showed overgrowth of the metal meshes by respiratory epithelium. The implantation of metal-mesh stents is an adequate alternative in the treatment of malignant stenosis and tracheomalacia.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to give a local tricubic interpolation scheme in three dimensions that is both C1 and isotropic. The algorithm is based on a specific 64 × 64 matrix that gives the relationship between the derivatives at the corners of the elements and the coefficients of the tricubic interpolant for this element. In contrast with global interpolation where the interpolated function usually depends on the whole data set, our tricubic local interpolation only uses data in a neighbourhood of an element. We show that the resulting interpolated function and its three first derivatives are continuous if one uses cubic interpolants. The implementation of the interpolator can be downloaded as a static and dynamic library for most platforms. The major difference between this work and current local interpolation schemes is that we do not separate the problem into three one‐dimensional problems. This allows for a much easier and accurate computation of higher derivatives of the extrapolated field. Olefin copolymers and terpolymers (OCPs) are used as viscosity modifiers in a large proportion of the European and world multigrade oil market. The polymer properties of the basic ethylene propylene polymers are critical to the physical characteristics of the final lubricant and its engine performance. The important parameters are discussed. Ethylene propylene polymers intended for use in other industrial applications should be checked thoroughly to avoid potential field problems. Modifications of these speciality OCPs to dispersant polymers enhance diesel and dispersant lubricant properties, enabling the most severe lubricant performance requirements to be met. The paper also reviews developments reported in the literature on the production and handling of the products together with their application, particularly with reference to their effect on low temperature properties, engine cleanliness, wear and fuel economy of the lubricant.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To evaluate the potential diagnostic role of mediastinal sonography in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF), we screened the mediastinum of adult CF patients with and without signs of infection and healthy controls. METHODS: Fifty-four consecutive adult patients with CF and 53 healthy volunteers underwent high-resolution mediastinal sonography. The paratracheal region and aorticopulmonary window of each subject were examined for lymph nodes. Each patient was screened for clinical signs of infection. RESULTS: Lymph nodes were detectable in the mediastinum of 39 of 50 CF patients (78%); the mean total lymph node volume was 1.5 +/- 1.7 cm3. Lymph nodes were detectable in the mediastinum of 31 of 50 controls (62%); the mean total lymph node volume in this group was 0.3 +/- 0.3 cm3 (p < 0.001). In the 30 CF patients with signs of infection, the mean total lymph node volume was larger (2.0 +/- 1.8 cm3) than in the 20 CF patients without signs of infection (0.7 +/- 0.9 cm3; p = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS: These results indicate that lymph node volume determination by high-resolution mediastinal sonography may help assess inflammatory activity in patients with CF.  相似文献
