Adsorptive desulfurization of a model diesel fuel consisting of dibenzothiophene (DBT) or 4,6‐dimethyldibenzothiophene(4,6‐DMDBT) in hexadecane was performed over activated carbons and tantalum oxide modified (Ta‐x/ACC, x= 2, 5 or 10 wt % Ta, Activated Carbon Centaur) activated carbons at 50°C. The adsorption isotherm for ACC followed the Langmuir model while the adsorption on Ta‐5/ACC fitted the Sips equation indicating more than one type of adsorption sites. Characterization studies indicated new types of adsorption site resulting from the incorporation of Ta oxide into the porous structure of the ACC. XPS data suggested interaction of Ta with the S atom in DBT. The heats of adsorption in the liquid phase determined from micro flow calorimetry for DBT in C16 confirmed the interaction of Ta with DBT. Ta‐5/ACC exhibited the highest adsorption capacity for 4,6‐DMDBT compared to literature reports. Competitive adsorption experiments showed the adsorption capacity as follows: quinoline> DBT? naphthalene. © 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2017  相似文献

Batch tests were performed to investigate chemical and physical processes that may result during electrolytic aeration of a contaminated aquifer using naphthalene as a model contaminant. Naphthalene degradation of 58-66% took place electrolytically and occurred at the same rates at a pH of 4 and 7. 1,4-naphthoquinone was identified as a product of the electrolysis. Stripping due to gases produced at the electrodes did not result in any naphthalene loss. Hydrogen peroxide (which may be produced at the cathode) did not have any effect on naphthalene, but the addition of ferrous iron (which may be present in aquifers) resulted in 67-99% disappearance of naphthalene. Chlorine (which may be produced from the anodic oxidation of chloride) can effectively degrade naphthalene at pH of 4, but not at a pH of 7. Mono-, di- and poly chloronaphthalenes were identified as oxidation products. Ferric iron coagulation (due to the oxidation of ferrous iron) did not significantly contribute to naphthalene loss. Overall, electrolytic oxidation and chemical oxidation due to the electrolytic by-products formed are significant abiotic processes that could occur and should be accounted for if bioremediation of PAH-contaminated sites via electrolytic aeration is considered. Possible undesirable products such as chlorinated compounds may be formed when significant amounts of chlorides are present.  相似文献

Tunnel excavation in cohesionless soils implies the use of a temporary supporting structure prior to lining installation. This temporary structure has to couple safety and economy, and can be conveniently realized using ground improvement techniques (for instance, by creating an arch of partially overlapped subhorizontal jet grouted columns). The adoption of ground improvement techniques results in structures far from having a perfect shape because they are intrinsically affected by defects (in both geometrical and mechanical characteristics), and therefore their design may hide unforeseen risks. As a consequence, this is the typical case in which sophisticated numerical analyses may just give the illusion of being refined, if possible defects are not correctly taken into account. In this paper a simple yet rational analytical method for the design of a nonclosed tunnel supporting structure that may be of some help to this aim is presented. It is done with reference to a simple two-dimensional scheme. In the first part of the paper, a design chart of optimal shape and minimum structural thickness of the cross section of the supporting structure is shown. In the second part, an iterative procedure to verify the stability or to design the minimum structural thickness of an existing supporting structure with a predefined shape is described. This method, coupled with the analysis of structural demand, allows one in principle to plot design charts. This approach can easily take into account structural defects with a semiprobabilistic approach and therefore with a chosen risk level, which is of great help to the designer at least in a preliminary design stage. The proposed semiprobabilistic procedure is applied to the case of a temporary supporting structure realized by partially overlapped subhorizontal jet grouted columns, intrinsically affected by defects in diameter and position. The variability of these geometrical parameters was considered based on the large quantity of experimental evidence collected in field trials by the writers and published elsewhere.  相似文献

Mitochondrial porin or VDAC (voltage-dependent anion-selective channel) is the most abundant protein in the mitochondrial outer membrane. The structure of VDAC has been predicted to be a transmembrane beta-barrel with an alpha-helix at the N terminus. It is a matter of debate as to whether this putative alpha-helix plays a structural role as a component of the pore walls or a function in the pore activity. We have synthesised the human VDAC1 (HVDAC1) N-terminal peptide Ac-AVPPTYADLGKSARDVFTK-NH2 (Prn2-20) and determined its structure by CD and NMR spectroscopy. CD studies show that the Prn2-20 peptide exists in aqueous solvent as an unstructured peptide with no stable secondary structure. In membrane-mimetic SDS micelles or water/trifluoroethanol, however, it assumes an amphipathic alpha-helix conformation between Tyr5 and Val16, as deduced from NMR. No ordered structure was observed in dodecyl beta-maltoside. Differential scanning calorimetric measurements were carried out in order to examine the membrane affinity of the peptide. Upon interaction with the negatively charged 1,2 dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoserine membrane, Prn2-20 exhibited distinctive behaviour, suggesting that electrostatics play an important role. Interaction between the peptide and artificial bilayers indicates that the peptide lies on the membrane surface. Recombinant HVDAC1 deletion mutants, devoid of seven or 19 N-terminal amino acids, were used for transfection of eukaryotic cells. Over-expression of HVDAC1 increases the number of Cos cells with depolarised mitochondria, and this effect is progressively reduced in cells transfected with HVDAC1 lacking those seven or 19 amino acids. The mitochondrial targeting of the deletion mutants is unaffected. The overall picture emerging from our experiments is that the VDAC N-terminal peptide plays a role in the proper function of this protein during apoptotic events.  相似文献

This study was carried out in order to check for the influence of drying parameters on the phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity on two apricot cultivars (Pelese and Cafona) using two sets of air drying temperatures: (1) air temperature at 55 °C; (2) air temperature at 75 °C. Whole fresh and dried fruits were assessed for: phenolics, ascorbic acid, antioxidant activity and redox potential (all parameters were calculated on a dry matter basis). Analysis of data shows that the decrease in chlorogenic and neochlorogenic acid in Cafona cultivar is higher at the lower drying temperature. Catechin showed the same behaviour of hydroxycinnamic acids in both cultivars, while the decrease in the other compounds was significantly more marked in the sample dried at 75 °C. The antioxidant activity increased significantly in Cafona fruits and this increase was confirmed by a diminution of the redox potential.  相似文献

An innovative solution for the Schwarzschild optic, based on a modification of the position of the object, is proposed. This solution allows one to reach a larger numerical aperture and hence a better resolution compared with the standard configuration of the Schwarzschild optics. An algorithm is presented that corrects a multichannel fiber-coupled spectrograph for stray or scattered light within the system. The efficacy of the algorithm is evaluated based on a series of validation measurements of sources with different spectral distributions. This is the first application of a scattered-light correction algorithm to a multichannel hyperspectral spectrograph. The algorithm, based on characterization measurements using a tunable laser system, can be extended to correct for finite point-spread response in imaging systems.  相似文献

Stable aqueous suspensions of nC?? and individual higher fullerenes, i.e. C??, C?? and C??, are prepared by a calorimetric modification of a commonly used liquid-liquid extraction technique. The energy requirement for synthesis of higher fullerenes has been guided by molecular-scale interaction energy calculations. Solubilized fullerenes show crystalline behavior by exhibiting lattice fringes in high resolution transmission electron microscopy images. The fullerene colloidal suspensions thus prepared are stable with a narrow distribution of cluster radii (42.7 ± 0.8 nm, 46.0 ± 14.0 nm, 60 ± 3.2 nm and 56.3 ± 1.1 nm for nC??, nC??, nC?? and nC??, respectively) as measured by time-resolved dynamic light scattering. The ζ-potential values for all fullerene samples showed negative surface potentials with similar magnitude ( - 38.6 ± 5.8 mV, - 39.1 ± 4.2 mV, - 38.9 ± 5.8 mV and - 41.7 ± 5.1 mV for nC??, nC??, nC?? and nC??, respectively), which provide electrostatic stability to the colloidal clusters. This energy-based modified solubilization technique to produce stable aqueous fullerenes will likely aid in future studies focusing on better applicability, determination of colloidal properties, and understanding of environmental fate, transport and toxicity of higher-order fullerenes.  相似文献
