Abstract. This article presents a geometric fusion algorithm developed for the reconstruction of 3D surface models from hand-held sensor
data. Hand-held systems allow full 3D movement of the sensor to capture the shape of complex objects. Techniques previously
developed for reconstruction from conventional 2.5D range image data cannot be applied to hand-held sensor data. A geometric
fusion algorithm is introduced to integrate the measured 3D points from a hand-held sensor into a single continuous surface.
The new geometric fusion algorithm is based on the normal-volume representation of a triangle, which enables incremental transformation of an arbitrary mesh into an implicit volumetric field
function. This system is demonstrated for reconstruction of surface models from both hand-held sensor data and conventional
2.5D range images.

The polymerase chain reaction was employed to correlate Salmonella serovars isolated from fecal material of greyhounds suffering from gastroenteritis with those isolated from the diet fed to the greyhounds prior to onset of diarrhea. Kennels around the Abilene, Kansas, area were contacted and supplied with materials needed to collect a portion of the diet each day. With the onset of diarrhea, the kennels were instructed to ship the fecal material and diet from the previous 10 days to the laboratory for testing. Forty-one fecal samples and corresponding diets were screened for Salmonella, Clostridium perfringens, Campylobacter jejuni, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus intermedius, and pathogenic (piliated) Escherichia coli by direct culture using standard procedures. The fecal material was also screened for coronavirus and parvovirus using electron microscopy. Thirty-five "normal" fecal samples were screened for all of the above mentioned microorganisms as a control. In addition, the fecal material was screened for E. coli verotoxins I and II and clostridial enterotoxins. A total of 61 Salmonella isolates were recovered from the 41 samples of feces and diet submitted for testing; 31 were recovered from the feces and 30 from the diet. Four Salmonella isolates were recovered from the normal fecal samples. Results obtained by PCR, plasmid profiles, antigenic analysis, and antibiogram profiles indicated that 16 of the 31 isolates recovered from the fecal material were the same strain as that recovered from the diet. 相似文献

Nature of the Thermal pretransition of synthetic phospholipids: dimyristolyl- and dipalmitoyllecithin 总被引:10,自引:0,他引:10
The hydrated synthetic lecithins, dimyristoyl and dipalmitoyllecithins, undergo two thermal transitions, a broad low enthalpy "pretransition" prior to the sharp first-order "chain-melting" transition. Both phospholipids exhibit the same temperature-dependent structural changes associated with the thermal pretransition. At low temperatures, below the pretransition, a one-dimensional lamellar lattice is observed. The hydrocarbon chains are fully extended and tilted with respect to the plane of the lipid bilayer. The hydrocarbon chain packing displays a temperature dependence and the angle of tilt of the hydrocarbon chains decreases with increasing temperature, reaching a minimum value of 30 degrees at the pretransition temperature of both lecithins. The pretransition is associated with a structural transformation from a one-dimensional lamellar to a two-dimensional monoclinic lattice consisting of lipid lamellae distorted by a periodic ripple. The hydrocarbon chains remain tilted in the temperature range intermediate between the pretransition and chain-melting transition. The cell parameters of this two-dimensional lattice exhibit a compositional dependence. The a parameter (proportional to the lamellar repeat distance) increases with increasing water content, while the b parameter (a measure of the ripple periodicity) decreases with increasing water content. At the chain-melting transition, the hydrocarbon chains of the phospholipid melt and assume a liquid-like conformation and the lattice reverts to one-dimensional lamellar. These structural changes observed for dimyristoyl- and dipalmitoyllecithins may be a common feature of all synthetic lecithins exhibiting a thermal pretransition. The appearance of the pretransition and accompanying two-dimensional may arise from specific interactions between the choline moiety of the polar head group and the structured water matrix surrounding it. 相似文献

This study assessed psychological and social factors predicting 12-month changes in fruit and vegetable consumption achieved by 271 men and women from a low-income population randomized to brief behavioral and nutrition education counseling. Greater increases in fruit and vegetable intake were achieved in the behavioral than in the nutrition education condition (1.49 vs. 0.87 portions per day, p=.021). Increases were predicted by baseline social support for dietary change but not by baseline psychological measures. However, short-term (8-week) changes in dietary self-efficacy, encouragement, anticipated regret, perceived benefits, and knowledge of recommended intake predicted 12-month changes in fruit and vegetable consumption independently of gender, age, ethnicity, income, and baseline intake. The management of a huge and growing amount of information available nowadays makes Automatic Document Classification (ADC), besides crucial, a very challenging task. Furthermore, the dynamics inherent to classification problems, mainly on the Web, make this task even more challenging. Despite this fact, the actual impact of such temporal evolution on ADC is still poorly understood in the literature. In this context, this work concerns to evaluate, characterize and exploit the temporal evolution to improve ADC techniques. As first contribution we highlight the proposal of a pragmatical methodology for evaluating the temporal evolution in ADC domains. Through this methodology, we can identify measurable factors associated to ADC models degradation over time. Going a step further, based on such analyzes, we propose effective and efficient strategies to make current techniques more robust to natural shifts over time. We present a strategy, named temporal context selection, for selecting portions of the training set that minimize those factors. Our second contribution consists of proposing a general algorithm, called Chronos, for determining such contexts. By instantiating Chronos, we are able to reduce uncertainty and improve the overall classification accuracy. Empirical evaluations of heuristic instantiations of the algorithm, named WindowsChronos and FilterChronos, on two real document collections demonstrate the usefulness of our proposal. Comparing them against state-of-the-art ADC algorithms shows that selecting temporal contexts allows improvements on the classification accuracy up to 10%. Finally, we highlight the applicability and the generality of our proposal in practice, pointing out this study as a promising research direction. 相似文献

Milk proteins are susceptible to chemical changes during processing and storage. We used proteomic tools to analyse bovine αS1-casein in UHT milk. 2-D gels of freshly processed milk αS1-casein was presented as five or more spots due to genetic polymorphism and variable phosphorylation. MS analysis after phosphopeptide enrichment allowed discrimination between phosphorylation states and genetic variants. We identified a new alternatively-spliced isoform with a deletion of exon 17, producing a new C-terminal sequence, K164SQVNSEGLHSYGL177, with a novel phosphorylation site at S174. Storage of UHT milk at elevated temperatures produced additional, more acidic αS1-casein spots on the gels and decreased the resolution of minor forms. MS analysis indicated that non-enzymatic deamidation and loss of the N-terminal dipeptide were the major contributors to the changing spot pattern. These results highlight the important role of storage temperature in the stability of milk proteins and the utility of proteomic techniques for analysis of proteins in food. 相似文献

Chlorophyll-a concentration variations are described for two major river basins in England, the Humber and the Thames and related to catchment characteristics and nutrient concentrations across a range of rural, agricultural and urban/industrial settings. For all the rivers there are strong seasonal variations, with concentrations peaking in the spring and summer time when biological activity is at its highest. However, there are large variations in the magnitude of the seasonal effects across the rivers. For the spring-summer low-flow periods, average concentrations of chlorophyll-a correlate with soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP). Chlorophyll-a is also correlated with particulate nitrogen (PN), organic carbon (POC) and suspended sediments. However, the strongest relationships are with catchment area and flow, where two straight line relationships are observed. The results indicate the importance of residence times for determining planktonic growth within the rivers. This is also indicated by the lack of chlorophyll-a response to lowering of SRP concentrations in several of the rivers in the area due to phosphorus stripping of effluents at major sewage treatment works. A key control on chlorophyll-a concentration may be the input of canal and reservoir waters during the growing period: this too relates to issues of residence times. However, there may well be a complex series of factors influencing residence time across the catchments due to features such as inhomogeneous flow within the catchments, a fractal distribution of stream channels that leads to a distribution of residence times and differences in planktonic inoculation sources. Industrial pollution on the Aire and Calder seems to have affected the relationship of chlorophyll-a with PN and POC. The results are discussed in relation to the Water Framework Directive. 相似文献
