Urinary excretion of vanilmandelic acid in the glossalgia syndrome

Under observation there were 78 patients aged 41 to 70 years suffering from the glossalgia syndrome, as well as 25 clinically healthy subjects. An activation of the sympathoadrenal system was revealed in the patients. This was ascertained on the basis of the data on vanillylmandelic acid excretion with the urine. The excretion of that acid is known to be dependent on the intensity of the paraesthesias, the duration of the ailment and the character of concurrent visceral diseases. The results obtained are regarded as evidences of the participation of the vegetative nervous system in the mechanism of the glossalgia syndrome development.     

Lattice dynamics, force constants, and phonon dispersion in model ferroelastics Hg2I2

The dispersion dependences of the frequencies of acoustic and optical phonons have been calculated and plotted, and the density of states of the phonon spectrum of Hg₂I₂ crystals has been obtained. The influence of hydrostatic pressure on the frequency of acoustic and optical phonons and their dispersion has been theoretically analyzed. The slowest acoustic TA branch (soft mode) at the X point of the Brillouin-zone boundary exhibits strong softening with an increase in pressure.     

The effect of reflected beam electrons on the distribution of energy deposited in a target

When a solid target is irradiated by an electron beam generated in a direct-action diode and transported to the target in a magnetic guide field, an important role belongs to electrons returned to the target as a result of multiple reflections from the target and the accelerating field region. The energy spectrum of electrons incident on the target and the deposited energy depth profile the target were studied by the Monte-Carlo method. An algorithm for calculating these characteristics was developed, based upon the method of separating the total electron flux into components with respect to the multiplicity of crossing of the target-vacuum interface.     

Infrared dynamical thermovision of the biological objects

Dynamical infrared thermovision and applications for real time functional diagnostic of biological objects are reviewed. Experiments with humans and animals are described. It is shown that method is very promising for blood flow studies and brain research.
