Electrodeposition of both epitaxial and polycrystalline continuous films of dense, coherent, and well-adherent silicon coatings
was achieved from molten fluorides. A dissolving Si anode and an operating temperature of about 750 C were utilized. Silicon
electrocrystallization epitaxy (ECE) produced films with the (111) orientation on Si substrates of the same orientation. The
unintentionally doped films were of p-type character with a resistivity in the range 0.05 - 0.10 Ω-cm. Polycrystalline Si
films were similarly electroplated onto various polycrystalline metal substrates. Uniform coherent, and well-adherent coatings
with grain diameters as large as 40 – 50 μm were obtained. The useful rate of electrodeposition of Si could be significantly
increased by the application of an alternating square wave pulse (ASWP)2technique. Cathodic current pulses as high as 300 mA/cm2 (growth rate of about 5 μm/min) were demonstrated. The cathodic current efficiencies, for all modes of growth, were about
70 – 100%. The effects of the various operating parameters, and some prospective applications to the fabrication of solar
cells, are discussed.

The role and importance of enterogastric secretion in the disposition and elimination of the weak base, meperidine (pKa 8.63), was studied after intravenous administration (50 mg) of the drug to 6 normal volunteers. Continuous collection of the gastric fluid over a 4-hr period demonstrated the establishment of high gastric fluid/plasma concentration ratios for meperidine (mean about 50, range, 10 to 200). However, the total amount of drug recovered, even after correction for incomplete collection, was only a small percentage of the administered dose. Under basal conditions a mean +/- SE of 1.9 +/- 0.3 mg, equivalent to 3.7% of the administered dose, was found in the total gastric aspirate. Stimulation of gastric secretion by subcutaneous injection of betazole (1.5 mg/kg) increased this recovery to 3.6 +/- 0.3 mg (7.2%) primarily due to the increase in gastric volumen output. Aspiration of the gastric fluid in either the basal or stimulated situation had no observable effect upon the plasma concentration/time profile of meperidine whether assessed by the terminal half-life, t 1/2 beta, or the plasma clearance; control values were 3.8 +/- hr and 1,190 +/- 130 ml/min, respectively. In 2 subjects "bile fluid" was also collected for 2.5 hr and found to contain less than 0.2% of the administered dose. Much attention has recently been focused on the question of the extent of heroin use in America. In a worthwhile effort to call public attention to the problem, many estimates of its size have evidenced a tendency toward exaggeration and aggrandizement. This paper presents methods of estimation of the extent of heroin addiction which, when carefully employed, should effectively correct such distorted estimates. Two general types of estimation are employed, incidence and prevalence. Incidence estimates are concerned with new cases of heroin addiction that occur in a specific population within a given amount of time. These estimates are based upon self-report data from addicts regarding date of first addiction. When corrected for the "lag phase" (that period of time between onset of first addiction and eventual visit to a treatment program), these data permit accurate retrospective charting of incidence trends. Prevalence estimates focus on all known cases of heroin addiction in a specific population within a given amount of time. Three separate types of prevalence estimates from three separate sources are outlined in this article: estimates based on overdose death data, estimates based on crime statistics, and estimates of "unknown" addicts. In outlining these methods, this article describes the fluctuations in heroin addiction in one major American city, San Francisco, California. After analyzing data gathered from a sample of 2,367 addicts contacted over a 3-year period, this study suggests that the incidence of heroin addiction seems to have declined after 1970. Possible factors underlying this apparent decline in heroin addiction are then discussed, including the post-1970 maturation of the "population at risk," the effectiveness of antidrug media messages, the changing drug fashions in the heroin subculture, and the gradual deterioration of the quality and potency of street heroin. 相似文献

We report a novel laser architecture, the hybrid silicon evanescent laser (SEL), that utilizes offset AlGaInAs quantum wells (QWs) bonded to a silicon waveguide. The silicon waveguide is fabricated on a silicon-on-insulator wafer using a complimentary metal-oxide-semiconductor-compatible process, and is subsequently bonded with the AlGaInAs QW structure using low temperature O/sub 2/ plasma-assisted wafer bonding. The optical mode in the SEL is predominantly confined in the passive silicon waveguide and evanescently couples into the III-V active region providing optical gain. The SEL lases continuous wave (CW) at 1568 nm with a threshold of 23 mW. The maximum temperature for CW operation is 60/spl deg/C. The maximum single-sided fiber-coupled CW output power at room temperature is 4.5 mW. 相似文献

As the Internet has changed communication, commerce, and the distribution of information, so too it is changing psychological research. Psychologists can observe new or rare phenomena online and can do research on traditional psychological topics more efficiently, enabling them to expand the scale and scope of their research. Yet these opportunities entail risk both to research quality and to human subjects. Internet research is inherently no more risky than traditional observational, survey, or experimental methods. Yet the risks and safeguards against them will differ from those characterizing traditional research and will themselves change over time. This article describes some benefits and challenges of conducting psychological research via the Internet and offers recommendations to both researchers and institutional review boards for dealing with them. The transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) ion channel plays an important role in the peripheral nociceptive pathway. TRPV1 is a polymodal receptor that can be activated by multiple types of ligands and painful stimuli, such as noxious heat and protons, and contributes to various acute and chronic pain conditions. Therefore, TRPV1 is emerging as a novel therapeutic target for the treatment of various pain conditions. Notably, various peptides isolated from venomous animals potently and selectively control the activation and inhibition of TRPV1 by binding to its outer pore region. This review will focus on the mechanisms by which venom-derived peptides interact with this portion of TRPV1 to control receptor functions and how these mechanisms can drive the development of new types of analgesics. 相似文献
