T-20 and T-1249 fusion inhibitor peptides were shown to interact with 1-palmitoyl-2-oleyl-phosphatidylcholine (POPC) (liquid disordered, ld) and POPC/cholesterol (1:1) (POPC/Chol) (liquid ordered, lo) bilayers, and they do so to different extents. Although they both possess a tryptophan-rich domain (TRD), T-20 lacks a pocket binding domain (PBD), which is present in T-1249. It has been postulated that the PBD domain enhances FI interaction with HIV gp41 protein and with model membranes. Interaction of these fusion inhibitor peptides with both the cell membrane and the viral envelope membrane is important for function, i.e., inhibition of the fusion process. We address this problem with a molecular dynamics approach focusing on lipid properties, trying to ascertain the consequences and the differences in the interaction of T-20 and T-1249 with ld and lo model membranes. T-20 and T-1249 interactions with model membranes are shown to have measurable and different effects on bilayer structural and dynamical parameters. T-1249’s adsorption to the membrane surface has generally a stronger influence in the measured parameters. The presence of both binding domains in T-1249 appears to be paramount to its stronger interaction, and is shown to have a definite importance in membrane properties upon peptide adsorption.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to obtain propolis in a powder, alcohol-free, water-dispersed and shelf-stable form. Propolis extract was spray-dried using gum Arabic and octenyl succinic anhydride (OSA) starch as carriers in two different weight ratios (1:4 and 1:6). Spray-dried propolis samples were evaluated for morphology, moisture, water activity, water dispersibility, hygroscopicity, particle size, particle distribution, entrapping efficiency, stability, isotherms and antioxidant properties. The spray-drying process produced round particles with sizes ranging from 15 to 24 μm. This process preserved the antioxidant activity of propolis and also allowed propolis to be obtained in a powder form, which was stable during storage at room temperature, had low hygroscopicity and was highly dispersible in cold water. The application of this technology could increase the use of propolis in various industrial applications, such as an antimicrobial and as an antioxidant in food.  相似文献

Ethanol is one alternative to the use of petroleum-based fuels. It is produced on a large scale in Brazil from sugarcane to the magnitude of billions of liters per year. During the ethanol production step, a considerable amount of byproducts is obtained and treated as waste. Carbon dioxide is one of these byproducts and a substance of interest especially for food industries. Because the production of 1000 kg of ethanol generates approximately 950 kg of CO2, this work intends to analyze a cryogenic distillation process for the production of CO2 by means of computational simulations. The results obtained were in agreement with real operational conditions, achieving CO2 concentrations up to 100% (v/v). With an initial CO2 concentration of 95% (v/v), 7 separation stages were obtained, achieving the limit of 5 stages for higher CO2 concentrations in the raw gas. The effect of initial CO2 concentrations on the final product and the concentration profiles along the column are also presented. In order to optimize the process, it was observed that, for a maximum feed flow of 3333 kg/h (CO2 concentration of 99%), the plant was able to obtain 10.48 kgCO2/kW, recovering about 2828 kgCO2/h at a final product concentration of 99.90% (v/v) at ?25 °C.  相似文献

Summary This article deals with the handy synthesis of sulfonyl resins, which were produced by the treatment of a commercial sulfonic resin (Lewatit VPOC1812® based at divinylbenzene (DVB) and styrene (STY). The preliminary chemical modification was based on the reaction of the Lewatit VPOC1812® with thionyl chloride aiming to produce the sulfonyl chloride groups. The best conditions to obtain the sulfonyl chloride groups were: SOCl2/SO3H (molar ratio) =13 at 79 °C during 72 h. The resin chlorinated was afterward treated with urea, thiourea or guanidine. The functionalized resins with urea, thiourea or guanidine were produced with 56, 68 and 93% yield, respectively. The commercial and modified resins were characterized by apparent density, swelling degree, elemental analysis (CHNS), FTIR, optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).  相似文献

Cosintering (La0.84Sr0.16MnO3 thin-film cathode/ZrO2: 8 mol% Y2O3 thin-film solid electrolyte/55 vol.% ZrO2:8 mol% Y2O3 + 45 vol.% NiO anode, ϕ = 12 × 1.5 mm thick pellet) was achieved by applying an electric field for 5 min at 1200°C. Impedance spectroscopy measurements of the anode-supported three-layer cell show an improvement of the electrical conductivity in comparison to that of a conventionally sintered cell. The scanning electron microscopy images of the cross-sections of electric field-assisted pressureless sintered cells show a fairly dense electrolyte and porous anode and cathode. Joule heating, resulting from the electric current due to the application of the AC electric field, is suggested as responsible for sintering. Dilatometric shrinkage curves, electric voltage and current profiles, impedance spectroscopy diagrams, and scanning electron microscopy micrographs show how anode-electrolyte-cathode ceramic cells can be cosintered at temperatures lower than the usually required.  相似文献

In this study, transparent conducting nanocrystalline ZnO:Ga (GZO) films were deposited by dc magnetron sputtering at room temperature on polymers (and glass for comparison). Electrical resistivities of 8.8 × 10-4 and 2.2 × 10-3 Ω cm were obtained for films deposited on glass and polymers, respectively. The crack onset strain (COS) and the cohesive strength of the coatings were investigated by means of tensile testing. The COS is similar for different GZO coatings and occurs for nominal strains approx. 1%. The cohesive strength of coatings, which was evaluated from the initial part of the crack density evolution, was found to be between 1.3 and 1.4 GPa. For these calculations, a Young's modulus of 112 GPa was used, evaluated by nanoindentation.  相似文献

Thin liquid sheets occur in several practical applications. In curtain coating, a thin liquid sheet is formed and falls freely over a considerable height before it impinges onto a moving substrate. Precision curtain coating was developed for multi layer photographic films but its use has expanded to many different applications. One of the important limits of this process is the stability of the liquid curtain, which may define the minimal thickness that can be coated at a given web speed.The condition at which a low viscosity Newtonian liquid curtain breaks was first derived based on a simple balance between inertial and capillary forces. There is a critical flow rate below which the curtain becomes unstable. For viscoelastic liquids, the normal stress related to the stretching of polymer molecules as the liquid accelerates down the curtain changes the force balance. Here, the critical condition at which a viscoelastic liquid curtain breaks was determined as a function of the rheological properties of the liquid. The results show that high extensional viscosity liquids create more stable curtains. Liquid additives could be used to push the limits of curtain flow rates to smaller values and consequently to widen the operability window of the process.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The use of two‐dimensional (2D) fluorescence for monitoring complex biological systems requires careful assessment of the effect of chemical species present, which may be fluorescent and/or may interfere with the fluorescence response of target fluorophores. Given the complexity of fluorescence data (excitation emission matrices—EEMs), the challenge is how to recover the information embedded into those EEMs that can be related quantitatively with the observed performance of the biological processes under study. RESULTS: This work shows clearly that interference effects (such as quenching and inner filter effects) occur due to the presence of multiple species in complex biological media, such as natural water matrices, wastewaters and activated sludge. A statistical multivariate analysis is proposed to recover quantitative information from 2D fluorescence data, correlating EEMs with the observed performance. A selected case study is discussed, where 2D fluorescence spectra obtained from the effluent of a membrane bioreactor were compressed using PARAFAC and successfully correlated with the effluent chemical oxygen demand, using projection to latent structures modelling. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates the potential of using 2D fluorescence spectroscopy as a status fingerprint. Additionally, it is shown how statistical multivariate data analysis can be used to correlate EEMs with selected performance parameters for monitoring of biological systems. A series of colour assays were conducted taking into account old bibliographic recommendations and oral testimony regarding traditional lime painting technology from the Alentejo (South Portugal) region. The main objectives were: (a) the colorimetric analysis of paintings made with different limewash preparation methods; (b) the comparison between natural processed red and yellows ochre pigments (“home made” and from industrial origin) and synthetic iron oxides in different concentrations and lime proportions; (c) the evaluation of the colorimetric CIELAB coordinates during the lime carbonation process in coloured mortars and limewashes. The results shows that the evolution of L*, a*, and b* during the carbonation process is independent of pigment concentration and paint thickness but dependent of pigment composition and finishing technique (lime painting or coloured mortar).
