In the scheme of land-groove recording in magneto-optic disk data-storage systems, it has been shown that an optimum groove depth exists at which the cross talk from adjacent tracks diminishes. Crosstalk cancellation, however, is very sensitive to various parameters of the system, and, in particular, the presence of substrate birefringence can have devastating effects on system performance. We analyze the origin of the observed effects by using scalar diffraction theory, and we show the reasons behind cross-talk cancellation. We also explain the relation between substrate birefringence and cross talk in simple analytical terms. Extensive computer simulations have been performed to verify and extend the theoretical results of this paper; the results of some of these simulations are also presented. 相似文献

The object-process methodology incorporates the system static-structural and dynamic-procedural aspects into a single, unified model. This unification bridges the gap that separates the static, object model from the dynamic, behavior, state, or function-oriented models found in many current object oriented methodologies. In this work we concentrate on the transition from object-process analysis to design within the development of information systems. We use a detailed case study as a running example throughout the paper to demonstrate how the structure-behavior unification, which characterizes object-process analysis, is carried on to object-process design. The case study first applies object-process analysis to perform the analysis stage. The sequence of steps that constitutes the design is then discussed and demonstrated through the case study. The design is divided into two phases: the analysis refinement phase and the implementation-dependent phase. Analysis refinement is concerned with adding details to the analysis results which are beyond the interest of the analysis itself, yet they are not related with a particular implementation. The implementation-dependent phase is concerned with code-level design, which takes place after specific implementation details, such as programming language, data organization, and user interface, have been made during the strategic design. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: The goals of this longitudinal investigation were 1) to study the rate of development of irreversible dementia in elderly depressed patients with a dementia syndrome that subsided after improvement of depression and 2) to compare it with that of depressed, never-demented patients. METHOD: The subjects were 57 elderly patients consecutively hospitalized for major depression. At entry into the study, 23 subjects also met criteria for "reversible dementia," while 34 were without dementia. After a systematic clinical evaluation, the subjects were followed up at approximately yearly intervals for an average of 33.8 months. RESULTS: Irreversible dementia developed significantly more frequently in the depressed group with reversible dementia (43%) than in the group with depression alone (12%). Survival analysis showed that the group with reversible dementia had a 4.69-times higher chance of having developed dementia at follow-up than the patients with depression alone. No clinical characteristics at entry into the study were found to discriminate the subjects who developed irreversible dementia during the follow-up period from those who remained nondemented. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that geriatric depression with reversible dementia is a clinical entity that includes a group of patients with early-stage dementing disorders. Therefore, identification of a reversible dementia syndrome is an indication for a thorough diagnostic workup and frequent follow-ups in order to identify treatable neurological disorders. 相似文献

PURPOSE: A technique that eliminates the use of a mechanical "breast-bridge" for positioning tangential fields for treatment of the intact breast or chest wall has been developed. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Treatment set-up parameters are determined using measuring capabilities (gantry angles and source-skin distances) available on a standard simulator unit. A programmable scientific calculator is used to determine field geometry from polar coordinates for various points on the patient's skin. The calculator program determines the field size, a depth and lateral shift from a skin reference point to the isocenter for the tangential fields, and the gantry angles. The program provides additional information which facilitates the simulation process: First, the coordinates of the isocenter for the tangential fields are expressed relative to couch coordinates for an initial arbitrary isocenter so that the "auto go to" capability available on some simulators can be used. Second, the coordinates of the medial and lateral entry points can be edited when the first set of tangents are not accepted. This part of the program allows quick and efficient adjustment of the fields to obtain adequate treatment volume coverage and a minimum of irradiated lung or heart. RESULTS: Simulation of more than 300 patients has shown the technique to be a practical and efficient method for positioning tangential fields for breast or chest wall irradiation. CONCLUSION: The technique described here takes full advantage of the capabilities of the new generation of computer controlled simulators, and offers an alternative to previous methods employing a mechanical "breast-bridge." 相似文献

It is not generally appreciated that the p value, as conceived by R. A. Fisher, is not compatible with the Neyman-Pearson hypothesis test in which it has become embedded. The p value was meant to be a flexible inferential measure, whereas the hypothesis test was a rule for behavior, not inference. The combination of the two methods has led to a reinterpretation of the p value simultaneously as an "observed error rate" and as a measure of evidence. Both of these interpretations are problematic, and their combination has obscured the important differences between Neyman and Fisher on the nature of the scientific method and inhibited our understanding of the philosophic implications of the basic methods in use today. An analysis using another method promoted by Fisher, mathematical likelihood, shows that the p value substantially overstates the evidence against the null hypothesis. Likelihood makes clearer the distinction between error rates and inferential evidence and is a quantitative tool for expressing evidential strength that is more appropriate for the purposes of epidemiology than the p value. 相似文献

In a study of plasma somatomedin activity in childhood scoliosis a group of five patients with congenital scoliosis was found to have significantly lower plasma somatomedin levels compared with a group of 20 normal children. A group of 52 patients with "idiopathic" scoliosis had normal plasma somatomedin levels. There is no apparent difference in the plasma somatomedin activity between the sexes, and no change in plasma somatomedin activity with chronologic age in these children, suggesting that normal adult somatomedin levels have been reached. 相似文献

Metal-coated polymers shaped by 3D stereolithography are introduced as a new manufacturing method for passive components for millimeter to terahertz electromagnetic waves.
