Automotive manufacturers have been taking advantage of simulation tools for modeling and analyzing various types of vehicles, such as conventional, electric, and hybrid electric vehicles. These simulation tools are of great assistance to engineers and researchers to reduce product-development cycle time, improve the quality of the design, and simplify the analysis without costly and time-consuming experiments. In this paper, a modeling tool that has been developed to study automotive systems using the power electronics simulator (PSIM) software is presented. PSIM was originally made for simulating power electronic converters and motor drives. This user-friendly simulation package is able to simulate electric/electronic circuits; however, it has no capability for simulating the entire system of an automobile. This paper discusses the PSIM validity as an automotive simulation tool by creating module boxes for not only the electrical systems, but also the mechanical, energy-storage, and thermal systems of the vehicles. These modules include internal combustion engines, fuel converters, transmissions, torque couplers, and batteries. Once these modules are made and stored in the library, the user can make the car model either a conventional, an electric, or a hybrid vehicle at will, just by dragging and dropping onto a schematic blank page.  相似文献

Supplementation of selenium and vitamin E to enhance disease resistance in dairy cattle has become common, particularly to prevent periparturient reproductive disorders and mastitis. To establish reference values for serum vitamin E and selenium concentrations in postparturient dairy cattle and to determine whether serum concentrations of these micronutrients varied with season and stage of lactation, cows from a stratified random sample of 50 herds were studied for 1 year. Blood samples were collected from each of the 50 study herds twice, from the 10 most recently parturient cows or from 10% of the herd, whichever was greatest. Mean concentration of vitamin E and selenium was 2.55 micrograms/ml and 78.12 ng/ml, respectively. Vitamin E concentrations were significantly (P < 0.05) higher during the summer and fall than during the winter and spring. Selenium concentrations were significantly (P < 0.05) lower during the summer and fall than during the winter and spring. Herd, season of blood sample collection, and time since parturition were significant (P < 0.02) in explaining variation in vitamin E and selenium concentrations.  相似文献

Many neurotransmitters and hormones in the nervous system transmit signals through receptors coupled to the poly-phosphoinositide (PI) signaling pathway. In this study, an in vivo protocol with [3H]inositol was used to examine the effect of chronic ethanol administration on inositol metabolism and poly-PI turnover in the cerebral cortex, hippocampus, and cerebellum of mouse brain. C57BL/6 mice were given a nutritionally complete liquid diet containing either ethanol (5%, w/v) or isocaloric sucrose for 2 months. Mice were injected intracerebrally with [3H]inositol; after 16 or 24 hr, they were injected intraperitoneally with lithium (8 mEq/kg body weight) to inhibit the inositol monophosphatase (IP1) activity. All mice were decapitated 4 hr after lithium injection. Labeled inositol phospholipids accounted for 16 to 23% of total labeled inositol in different regions of control mouse brain, and the percentages in the hippocampus were consistently higher than the cerebral cortex and cerebellum. In control mice, the percentages of labeled IP1 after a 4-hr lithium treatment were 11.5%, 9.9%, and 3.7% for cerebral cortex, hippocampus, and cerebellum, respectively. Chronic ethanol feeding resulted in a significant (p < 0.05) decrease in the percent of labeled IP1 and inositol phospholipids, and this effect was observed in the cerebral cortex and, to a lesser extent, hippocampus but not cerebellum. When ratios of labeled IP1 were expressed against labeled inositol phospholipids as an index of the poly-PI turnover activity, significant decreases in IP/lipid ratios were observed in the cerebral cortex, but not the hippocampus or cerebellum. Although mice killed 24 + 4 hr after the last ethanol feeding would have experienced an 8-hr period of ethanol withdrawal, compared with the 16 + 4-hr group, no differences in IP/lipid ratios were observed between the two time groups. These results illustrate regional differences in the effect of chronic ethanol on inositol metabolism in the brain, but no difference in poly-PI turnover in brain due to ethanol withdrawal.  相似文献

TNM classification of esophageal carcinoma was first described in the supplement to the first edition of the TNM classification in 1973. In the second edition, the classification was changed based on the data of 1,000 cases from the Task Force on Esophagus of American Joint Committee. In this edition, only the clinical classification was described, but the third edition included both clinical and post-surgical histopathological classification. But the criteria for T and pT classification differed. Before the fourth edition, specialists from Japan and the United States met in Hawaii in 1984. Data of the Japanese Nationwide Registration, including 7,742 patients from 1969 to 1978, were presented. After discussion based on these data, T was classified according to the depth of invasion, and perigastric lymph nodes were included in Regional Nodes in the fourth edition. Then, the TNM Research Committee of ISDE collected patient data of esophageal carcinoma from seven countries, and they were studied according to many factors. Based on these data, two proposals were made to the UICC TNM Committee. First, T1 should be divided into two categories: T1a, Tumor invasion of lamina propria; and T1b, Tumor invasion of submucosa. Second, metastases to distant lymph nodes should be grouped into the N classification instead of M classification. The first was accepted in the TNM Supplement of 1993, and the second will be accepted in the Fifth Edition, which will appear in 1997. It is important to accumulate data on many patients using the uniform registration form and to follow these patients very closely in the discussion of revisions to the TNM classification.  相似文献

Mixtures of ammonium dihydrogen phosphate and basic nickel carbonate with P/Ni molar ratios of 2/3, 1/1, and 2/1 were ground in a planetary mill. The thermal behavior of the milled samples was investigated by differential thermal analysis, x-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. In addition, the samples were characterized by ultraviolet-visible reflectance spectroscopy, particle size distribution, scanning electron microscopy, and nitrogen adsorption measurements. As a result of mechanochemical effects, the targeted nickel phosphates were formed at lower temperatures, had a more vivid color, and consisted of more regularly shaped particles.  相似文献

The morphology of composite films consisting of conjugated polymers and C60 prepared by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) has been studied. While C60 exists as nanocrystals uniformly embedded in the composite films based on poly[2-methoxy-5-(2′-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene vinylene], a spontaneous stratification of the composite films into polymer-C60-mixture and C60-microcrystal layers is observed in the films based on a polyfluorene derivative, poly[(9,9-dioctyl-2,7-divinylenefluorenylene)-alt-{2-methoxy-5-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene}]. The results suggest that EPD can be a useful tool for controlling the morphology of bulk heterojunction systems for organic photocells.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of our study was to evaluate the usefulness of diagnostic joint injections in patients with foot and ankle pain when the radiologist attempts to identify the source of pain. This study also correlated the results of injection with outcome after arthrodesis. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the records of 22 patients who had a foot or ankle joint injected to identify a source of pain and who later underwent arthrodesis of the painful joint. All patients had long-term foot and ankle symptoms of variable causes. Twenty-four joints were assessed: 13 subtalar, five talonavicular, four ankle, one calcaneocuboid, and one metatarsocuneiform. All patients had plain radiographs, 11 had CT studies, and five had bone scans. Contrast material was used to assess adequate positioning of the needle inside the joint before injection. All joints were injected under fluoroscopic control. Steroid was added in eight joints. After injection, patients were assessed for relief of symptoms. Patients subsequently underwent arthrodesis on the basis of the results of the injection. RESULTS: In 20 patients (22 joints), long-term follow-up showed that injections allowed us to correctly identify the source of pain and successfully guide arthrodesis. Of these 20 patients, 17 had significant pain relief after injection and fusion, whereas three patients had mild or no response. With one of these patients, we injected other joints and changed surgical plans. One of the two remaining patients had more pain relief after injection than after arthrodesis. The other patient had no relief after injection, but subsequent fusion because of persistent pain was successful. We found imaging studies to be less useful than diagnostic injections when we were attempting to identify the source of pain. CONCLUSION: Intraarticular injection of anesthetic in painful foot and ankle joints helped us confirm the source of pain in 20 of 22 patients, which in turn led to successful arthrodesis and good outcomes for these patients.  相似文献

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a potent and selective vascular endothelial cell mitogen and angiogenic factor. VEGF expression is elevated in a wide variety of solid tumors and is thought to support their growth by enhancing tumor neovascularization. To block VEGF-dependent angiogenesis, tumor cells were transfected with cDNA encoding the native soluble FLT-1 (sFLT-1) truncated VEGF receptor which can function both by sequestering VEGF and, in a dominant negative fashion, by forming inactive heterodimers with membrane-spanning VEGF receptors. Transient transfection of HT-1080 human fibrosarcoma cells with a gene encoding sFLT-1 significantly inhibited their implantation and growth in the lungs of nude mice following i.v. injection and their growth as nodules from cells injected s.c. High sFLT-1 expressing stably transfected HT-1080 clones grew even slower as s.c. tumors. Finally, survival was significantly prolonged in mice injected intracranially with human glioblastoma cells stably transfected with the sflt-1 gene. The ability of sFLT-1 protein to inhibit tumor growth is presumably attributable to its paracrine inhibition of tumor angiogenesis in vivo, since it did not affect tumor cell mitogenesis in vitro. These results not only support VEGF receptors as antiangiogenic targets but also demonstrate that sflt-1 gene therapy might be a feasible approach for inhibiting tumor angiogenesis and growth.  相似文献
