Crack cocaine and schizophrenia as risk factors for PPD reactivity in the dually diagnosed

The authors have investigated the clinical role of the soft tissues and of their influence in the planning phase of the orthognathic surgery, with the purpose to emphasize their capital influence in the face armony. Most of the patients really ask for an aesthetic result, that is in a tight relation with the correct prediction of the morphological changes of the soft tissues. The aesthetics excite nowadays the research, especially in all the surgical fields, and so the orthognatic surgery is more than ever from the soft tissues influenced. Subsequently the authors have investigated the principal indications to the bimaxillary surgery and have suggested a personal diagnostic-therapeutic protocol for a correct and opportune evaluation of the soft tissues relations. Finally the authors have described the whole prediction phase and have shown as the maxillary bones influence the whole facial skelett, and as frequently the chin correction and the rhinoplasty are necessary for a better result in the time.     

Spiritual recovery movements and contemporary medical care

At the Eleventh International HLA Histocompatibility Workshop, numerous anti-HLA class II monoclonal antibodies (mAb) were tested. For several of the polymorphic mAb, one epitope for binding has been mapped within the antigen-binding site of the class II molecules. Screening of the available bovine DRB3 and DQB exon 2 sequences revealed that some of the key amino acid (AA) motifs of these epitopes were present in cattle as well, and the question was raised whether this sharing of key AA motifs might cause interspecies cross-reactivity. Eight polymorphic anti-HLA class II mAb (seven anti-HLA DRB1 and one anti-HLA DQB) were selected for analysis of their reactivity towards bovine lymphocytes. In addition, the monomorphic anti-HLA class II mAb, 7.5.10.1, was selected for analysis, as this mAb was described to detect class II polymorphism in cattle. Flow cytometry and lymphocyte microcytotoxicity testing revealed that five of the polymorphic anti-HLA mAb were reactive with bovine lymphocytes. Furthermore, the anti-bovine reactivity of 7.5.10.1 was confirmed. These findings were supported by biochemical analysis. The anti-bovine reaction of the anti-HLA mAb did not correspond with the expected reaction, which was based on the presence of the AA, postulated to be responsible for recognition. Therefore, we suggest that the patterns of reactivity of the anti-HLA mAb are not always determined by one epitope.     

Dual loudness scales in individual subjects.

Conducted 3 experiments in which each of 7 Ss (aged 21–34 yrs) with normal hearing matched the loudness of a single tone to the loudness differences within tone pairs, gave magnitude estimations of those differences, and gave magnitude estimations of single tone loudnesses. Findings show that individual Ss used several loudness scales to perform these tasks, in accordance with L. E. Marks's (see record 1979-27779-001) theory proposing a family of peceptual scales serving different purposes with a sense modality. At least 3 Ss used the same scale to match loudnesses to loudness differences and to give magnitude estimations of the loudness of single tones in Exps I and III, but used a shallower sloped scale when giving magnitude estimations of loudness differences in Exp II.
