A thermal emitter composed of a frequency-selective surface metamaterial layer and a hexagonal boron nitride-encapsulated graphene filament is demonstrated. The broadband thermal emission of the metamaterial (consisting of ring resonators) was tailored into two discrete bands, and the measured reflection and emission spectra agreed well with the simulation results. The high modulation frequencies that can be obtained in these devices, coupled with their operation in air, confirm their feasibility for use in applications such as gas sensing. 相似文献

In three-dimensional medical imaging, segmentation of specific anatomy structure is often a preprocessing step for computer-aided detection/diagnosis (CAD) purposes, and its performance has a significant impact on diagnosis of diseases as well as objective quantitative assessment of therapeutic efficacy. However, the existence of various diseases, image noise or artifacts, and individual anatomical variety generally impose a challenge for accurate segmentation of specific structures. To address these problems, a shape analysis strategy termed "break-and-repair" is presented in this study to facilitate automated medical image segmentation. Similar to surface approximation using a limited number of control points, the basic idea is to remove problematic regions and then estimate a smooth and complete surface shape by representing the remaining regions with high fidelity as an implicit function. The innovation of this shape analysis strategy is the capability of solving challenging medical image segmentation problems in a unified framework, regardless of the variability of anatomical structures in question. In our implementation, principal curvature analysis is used to identify and remove the problematic regions and radial basis function (RBF) based implicit surface fitting is used to achieve a closed (or complete) surface boundary. The feasibility and performance of this strategy are demonstrated by applying it to automated segmentation of two completely different anatomical structures depicted on CT examinations, namely human lungs and pulmonary nodules. Our quantitative experiments on a large number of clinical CT examinations collected from different sources demonstrate the accuracy, robustness, and generality of the shape "break-and-repair" strategy in medical image segmentation. 相似文献

Floor control refers to the need for coordinating activities occurred in synchronously cooperating applications shared among
collaborators. We address this for ubiquitous collaboration—the capability of multiple users to link together with disparate
access device anytime and anywhere. Floor control has been studied for years but most researchers focus on relaxed coordination
mechanisms with stationary devices that allow updates by any user on any object and resolve the uncoordinated updates. In
this paper we present a floor control mechanism, called XGSP-Floor, which implements a coordination mechanism at application
level for enabling users to consistently share the same resource in real time (synchronous collaboration) in ubiquitous collaboration
environment. The implementation platform on cell phone devices may not be new. But we believe the implementation and experiment
for XGSP-Floor on cell phone devices is a new challenge in ubiquitous collaboration environment even though the coordination
mechanism can intuitively impose a tremendous overhead in worst case. We also describe the results of the modeling of XGSP-Floor
and formal verification to prove the correctness of the modeling using Colored Petri Nets. We describe lessons learned and

Recently, it was shown how the convergence of a class of multigrid methods for computing the stationary distribution of sparse,
irreducible Markov chains can be accelerated by the addition of an outer iteration based on iterant recombination. The acceleration
was performed by selecting a linear combination of previous fine-level iterates with probability constraints to minimize the
two-norm of the residual using a quadratic programming method. In this paper we investigate the alternative of minimizing
the one-norm of the residual. This gives rise to a nonlinear convex program which must be solved at each acceleration step.
To solve this minimization problem we propose to use a deep-cuts ellipsoid method for nonlinear convex programs. The main
purpose of this paper is to investigate whether an iterant recombination approach can be obtained in this way that is competitive
in terms of execution time and robustness. We derive formulas for subgradients of the one-norm objective function and the
constraint functions, and show how an initial ellipsoid can be constructed that is guaranteed to contain the exact solution
and give conditions for its existence. We also investigate using the ellipsoid method to minimize the two-norm. Numerical
tests show that the one-norm and two-norm acceleration procedures yield a similar reduction in the number of multigrid cycles.
The tests also indicate that one-norm ellipsoid acceleration is competitive with two-norm quadratic programming acceleration

LiDAR canopy height models (CHMs) can exhibit unnatural looking holes or pits, i.e., pixels with a much lower digital number than their immediate neighbors. These artifacts may be caused by a combination of factors, from data acquisition to post-processing, that not only result in a noisy appearance to the CHM but may also limit semi-automated tree-crown delineation and lead to errors in biomass estimates. We present a highly effective semi-automated pit filling algorithm that interactively detects data pits based on a simple user-defined threshold, and then fills them with a value derived from their neighborhood. We briefly describe this algorithm and its graphical user interface, and show its result in a LiDAR CHM populated with data pits. This method can be rapidly applied to any CHM with minimal user interaction. Visualization confirms that our method effectively and quickly removes data pits. 相似文献

We propose an integrated learning and planning framework that leverages knowledge from a human user along with prior information about the environment to generate trajectories for scientific data collection in marine environments. The proposed framework combines principles from probabilistic planning with nonparametric uncertainty modeling to refine trajectories for execution by autonomous vehicles. These trajectories are informed by a utility function learned from the human operator’s implicit preferences using a modified coactive learning algorithm. The resulting techniques allow for user-specified trajectories to be modified for reduced risk of collision and increased reliability. We test our approach in two marine monitoring domains and show that the proposed framework mimics human-planned trajectories while also reducing the risk of operation. This work provides insight into the tools necessary for combining human input with vehicle navigation to provide persistent autonomy. 相似文献

This paper reports the dynamic behaviour of a magnetically actuated floating liquid marble by analysing the oscillation of the marble. A liquid marble is a liquid droplet coated with hydrophobic powder. Magnetite particles inside the marble make it magnetic. The marble floats on a carrier liquid that contains aqueous glycerol of various concentrations. A permanent magnet located under the carrier liquid drives the floating marble with the initial velocity. Stopping the magnet abruptly causes the marble to oscillate around its final position for a few seconds. The oscillation was recorded and analysed using customised image processing and evaluation software. The damped harmonic motion model was then applied to the data and tested. Subsequently, critical parameters of the system such as the initial displacement, friction correction factor, the apparent frequency and the spring constant were determined and discussed. The simple experimental set-up and convenient theoretical approach allow us to characterise the marble motion under the influence of a magnet with good accuracy. 相似文献

Background
Premature infants represent a significant proportion of the neonatal intensive care population. Blood glucose homeostasis in this group is often disturbed by immaturity of endogenous regulatory systems and the stress of their condition. Hypo- and hyperglycemia are frequently reported in very low birth weight infants, and more mature infants often experience low levels of glycemia. A model capturing the unique fundamental dynamics of the neonatal glucose regulatory system could be used to develop better blood glucose control methods.Methods
A metabolic system model is adapted from adult critical care to the unique physiological case of the neonate. Integral-based fitting methods were used to identify time-varying insulin sensitivity and non-insulin mediated glucose uptake profiles. The clinically important predictive ability of the model was assessed by assuming insulin sensitivity was constant over prediction intervals of 1, 2 and 4 h forward and comparing model-simulated versus actual clinical glucose values for all recorded interventions. The clinical data included 1091 glucose measurements over 3567 total patient hours, along with all associated insulin and nutritional infusion data, for N = 25 total cases. Ethics approval was obtained from the Upper South A Regional Ethics Committee for this study.Results
The identified model had a median absolute percentage error of 2.4% [IQR: 0.9-4.8%] between model-fitted and clinical glucose values. Median absolute prediction errors at 1-, 2- and 4-h intervals were 5.2% [IQR: 2.5-10.3%], 9.4% [IQR: 4.5-18.4%] and 13.6% [IQR: 6.3-27.6%] respectively.Conclusions
The model accurately captures and predicts the fundamental dynamic behaviors of the neonatal metabolism well enough for effective clinical decision support in glycemic control. The adaptation from adult to a neonatal case is based on the data from the literature. Low prediction errors and very low fitting errors indicate that the fundamental dynamics of glucose metabolism in both premature neonates and critical care adults can be described by similar mathematical models. 相似文献40.

This paper compares three methods for estimating renal function, as tested in rats. Acute renal failure (ARF) was induced via a 60-min bilateral renal artery clamp in 8 Sprague-Dawley rats and renal function was monitored for 1 week post-surgery. A two-compartment model was developed for estimating glomerular filtration via a bolus injection of a radio-labelled inulin tracer, and was compared with an estimated creatinine clearance method, modified using the Cockcroft-Gault equation for rats. These two methods were compared with selected ion flow tube-mass spectrometry (SIFT-MS) monitoring of breath analytes. Determination of renal function via SIFT-MS is desirable since results are available non-invasively and in real time. Relative decreases in renal function show very good correlation between all 3 methods (R2 = 0.84, 0.91 and 0.72 for breath-inulin, inulin-creatinine, and breath-creatinine correlations, respectively), and indicate good promise for fast, non-invasive determination of renal function via breath testing. 相似文献
