This research presents a technique to quantify morphological damage to flutes in corrugated fibreboard (CFB). The method involves laser cutting thin samples and analysing digital images of the flute profiles. The surface profiles of creased CFB before and after laser cutting were measured using fringe projection and showed that the sample preparation does not significantly affect the flute profile. After imaging the laser cut samples, skeleton analysis was used to derive a digitised profile of the flute shape. To characterise the level of damage to the flute profile, a similarity factor (SF) was introduced to quantify the relative difference between test sample and reference flute profiles. Validation of this analysis technique was done by generating known images of flute profile with variations that include distortions that could occur to CFB. These images were then fed into the skeleton analysis, and the results were compared with the original profile. This comparison showed good agreement between the initial and skeleton‐analysed flutes. A demonstration of the skeleton analysis on purposefully damaged actual CFB flute profiles shows that the SF reduces as the level of crushing increases, showing that the technique could be used to enumerate morphological damage to CFB during manufacture, conversion, and use. 相似文献

We analyse instabilities due to aliasing errors when solving one dimensional non-constant advection speed equations and discuss means to alleviate these types of errors when using high order discontinuous Galerkin (DG) schemes. First, we compare analytical bounds for the continuous and discrete version of the PDEs. Whilst traditional \(L^2\) norm energy bounds applied to the discrete PDE do not always predict the physical behaviour of the continuous version of the equation, more strict elliptic norm bounds correctly bound the behaviour of the continuous PDE. Having derived consistent bounds, we analyse the effectiveness of two stabilising techniques: over-integration and split form variations (conservative, non-conservative and skew-symmetric). Whilst the former is shown to not alleviate aliasing in general, the latter ensures an aliasing-free solution if the splitting form of the discrete PDE is consistent with the continuous equation. The success of the split form de-aliasing is restricted to DG schemes with the summation-by-parts simultaneous-approximation-term properties (e.g. DG with Gauss–Lobatto points). A new numerical approach to efficiently reconstruct the profile of a grating from measurements of reflection coefficients is demonstrated. The problem is posed in the mathematical framework of an inverse scattering problem and solved using gradient-based algorithms. The gradient is computed efficiently using adjoint equations, which amounts to an extra scattering computation per iteration. For symmetric profiles it is shown that only knowledge of the scattered field is sufficient to compute the gradient. As a result, complex profiles can be reconstructed rapidly, and the method can be potentially used in metrology applications in semiconductors. Using ultrafast spectroscopy, we investigated electron-lattice coupling and acoustic vibrations in self-assembled silver nanocolumns embedded in an amorphous Al2O3 matrix. The measured electron-lattice energy exchange time is smaller in the nanocolumns than in bulk silver, with a value very close to that of isolated nanospheres with comparable surface to volume ratio. Two vibration modes were detected and ascribed to the breathing and extensional mode of the nanocolumns, in agreement with numerical simulations. 相似文献

Low-grade chronic inflammation plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of insulin resistance (IR), and skeletal muscle has a central role in this condition. NLRP3 inflammasome activation pathways promote low-grade chronic inflammation in several tissues. However, a direct link between IR and NLRP3 inflammasome activation in skeletal muscle has not been reported. Here, we evaluated the NLRP3 inflammasome components and their role in GLUT4 translocation impairment in skeletal muscle during IR. Male C57BL/6J mice were fed with a normal control diet (NCD) or high-fat diet (HFD) for 8 weeks. The protein levels of NLRP3, ASC, caspase-1, gasdermin-D (GSDMD), and interleukin (IL)-1β were measured in both homogenized and isolated fibers from the flexor digitorum brevis (FDB) or soleus muscle. GLUT4 translocation was determined through GLUT4myc-eGFP electroporation of the FBD muscle. Our results, obtained using immunofluorescence, showed that adult skeletal muscle expresses the inflammasome components. In the FDB and soleus muscles, homogenates from HFD-fed mice, we found increased protein levels of NLRP3 and ASC, higher activation of caspase-1, and elevated IL-1β in its mature form, compared to NCD-fed mice. Moreover, GSDMD, a protein that mediates IL-1β secretion, was found to be increased in HFD-fed-mice muscles. Interestingly, MCC950, a specific pharmacological NLRP3 inflammasome inhibitor, promoted GLUT4 translocation in fibers isolated from the FDB muscle of NCD- and HFD-fed mice. In conclusion, we found increased NLRP3 inflammasome components in adult skeletal muscle of obese insulin-resistant animals, which might contribute to the low-grade chronic metabolic inflammation of skeletal muscle and IR development. 相似文献

This paper presents the design and characterisation of a millimetre-wave corrugated horn antenna to perform low power measurements of the main parameters of the quasioptical transmission lines of the Electron Cyclotron Resonance Heating (ECRH) at TJ-II stellerator experiment working in Madrid (E). The antenna generates a practically pure Gaussian Beam at 53.2 GHz that simulates the stellerator gyrotron output beam. Simulations of the designed corrugated horn, by using a specially developed computer code, are presented. The far field radiation pattern of the constructed prototype was measured at the ESTEC Compact Antenna Test Range (CATR). Storage of maize products such as tortillas may cause starch retrogradation and lead to resistant starch (RS) formation. This study was carried out to determine if storage of maize tortillas under refrigerated conditions enhanced RS content and/or modified RS structure. Improved Costeño variety maize grain was nixtamalized and processed into tortillas which were stored for five and ten days at 5°C. Total resistant starch (TRS) and retrograded resistant starch (RRS or RS3) contents were determined on raw and nixtamalized maize grain and tortillas stored for zero, five and ten days. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and near‐infrared (NIR) spectroscopy were use to evaluate structural changes in retrograded resistant starch isolated from each sample type. Total starch content was 67 ± 1.5% for all samples, TRS ranged from 3.3% in the raw grain at 7.2% in tortillas stored for ten days, while RRS starch content ranged from 0% in the raw grain to 3.2% in tortillas stored for ten days. DSC showed endothermic transitions corresponding to amylopectin and amylose retrogradation, at 31.9 and 139.7°C in RRS from tortillas stored for five days, and at 47.9 and 146°C in RRS from tortillas stored for ten days. These values agreed with the higher total RS content recorded after prolonged storage. XRD revealed a starch crystallinity of 13.7% in tortillas stored for five days and 15.3% in those stored for ten days. NIR spectroscopy analysis showed evidence of structural changes in polymeric order that were more pronounced in RRS of tortillas stored for ten days, due to increase in crystalline region. 相似文献
