A preliminary classification system for homeless veterans with mental illness.

The purpose of this study was that of defining psychiatric profiles among veterans based on a structured interview of 3,595 individuals administered by outreach mental health clinicians to individuals who were presently or recently homeless. The interview included ratings of presence or absence of current psychiatric disorders; alcoholism, drug abuse, psychosis, mood disorders, personality disorders, PTSD, and adjustment disorders. We identified three subgroups using cluster analysis each showing different diagnostic profiles that were characterized as "addiction" (n = 3,061), "psychosis" (n = 218), and "personality" disorders (n = 54). Cluster membership was related to demographic characteristics, living situation, length of homelessness, and symptoms and complaints including cognitive difficulties, suicidality, violence, and depression. Group comparison statistics were used to compare intercluster differences in demographics, homeless situation, symptoms, and subjective complaints. There were no major intercluster differences in socioethnic, demographic, and homeless situation variables. Differences occurred in complaints of depression, positive symptoms of psychosis, and suicidality. It was concluded that despite the disproportionate sizes of the clusters homeless veterans with mental illness are nevertheless heterogeneous with regard to their psychiatric profiles. Ironic effects of repetition: Measuring age-related differences in memory.

Four experiments examined ironic effects of repetition, effects opposite to those desired (cf, D. M. Wegner, 1994). For an exclusion task, participants were to respond "yes" to words heard earlier but "no" to words that were read earlier. Results from young adults given adequate time to respond showed that false alarms to earlier-read words decreased with their repetition. An opposite, ironic effect of repetition was found for elderly adults—false alarms to earlier-read words increased with repetition. Younger adults forced to respond quickly or to perform a secondary task while reading words showed the same ironic effect of repetition as did elderly adults. The process-dissociation procedure (L. L. Jacoby, 1991, 1998) was used to show that factors that produce ironic effects do so by reducing recollection while leaving effects of repetition on familiarity unchanged. 柳树叶中原花青素的提取与含量测定

以乙醇提取柳树叶的原花青素,考察了乙醇浓度、料液比、提取时间和提取温度等对提取率的影响。结果表明,乙醇浓度70%,料液比1∶20,提取温度70℃,提取时间120 min为最佳提取条件。运用香草醛-盐酸显色法,对最佳提取条件下提取的柳树叶中原花青素含量进行测定,测得绥化地产柳树叶中原花青素含量为10.77 mg/g。     

Visualization of immune cell infiltration in experimental viral myocarditis by 19F MRI in vivo

Objective

This paper introduces a new approach permitting for the first time a specific, non-invasive diagnosis of myocarditis by visualizing the infiltration of immune cells into the myocardium.

Materials and methods

The feasibility of this approach is shown in a murine model of viral myocarditis. Our study uses biochemically inert perfluorocarbons (PFCs) known to be taken up by circulating monocytes/macrophages after intravenous injection.

Results

In vivo ¹⁹F MRI at 9.4 T demonstrated that PFC-loaded immune cells infiltrate into inflamed myocardial areas. Because of the lack of any fluorine background in the body, detected ¹⁹F signals of PFCs are highly specific as confirmed ex vivo by flow cytometry and histology.

Conclusion

Since PFCs are a family of compounds previously used clinically as blood substitutes, the technique described in our paper holds the potential as a new imaging modality for the diagnosis of myocarditis in man.     

Exploring the deep biosphere

Over the past two decades, scientific drilling into sediments and rocks in the ocean and the continent has revealed the presence of physiologically and phylogenetically complex microbial life in the deep subsurface. Microorganisms, most of which have no cultured or known relatives in the surface biosphere, have been discovered in sediments and rock at depth as deep as 1 km below the seafloor and more than 3 km deep in the continent. 为了使联合因子分析适用于多种信道条件下的文本无关说话人识别,提出了一种本征信道空间的正交拼接法.在多信道条件下,可以通过混合数据法或简单拼接法估计本征信道空间,但前者存在空间掩盖,后者虽解决了空间掩盖但引入了空间重叠.本文首先证明说话人建模和测试的核心运算是斜投影,基于上述证明,通过将待拼接空间正交的方法移除了空间重叠.在NIST SRE 2008核心评测数据库上的实验表明,本文所提算法优于混合数据法和简单拼接法.
