An inverse problem is solved for simultaneously estimating the convection–conduction parameter and the variable thermal conductivity parameter in a conductive–convective fin with temperature dependent thermal conductivity. Initially, the temperature field is obtained from a direct method using an analytical approach based on decomposition scheme and then using a simplex search minimization algorithm an inverse problem is solved for estimating the unknowns. The objective function to be minimized is represented by the sum of square of the error between the measured temperature field and an initially guessed value which is updated in an iterative manner. The estimation accuracy is studied for the effect of measurement errors, initial guess and number of measurement points. It is observed that although very good estimation accuracy is possible with more number of measurement points, reasonably well estimation is obtained even with fewer number of measurement points without measurement error. Subject to selection of a proper initial guess, it is seen that the number of iterations could be significantly reduced. The relative sensitiveness of the estimated parameters is studied and is observed from the present work that the estimated convection–conduction parameter contributes more to the temperature distribution than the variable conductivity parameter.  相似文献

The present work investigates the effect of cold deformation on the evolution of microstructure and textures during recrystallization in 0.08%C steel. The cold rolling texture consists of partial α-fiber (RD//〈110〉) and complete γ-fiber (ND//〈111〉) along with Goss ({110}〈001〉) and cube ({100}〈100〉}) texture components. The sharpness of α-fiber, γ-fiber and cube component increases with the increase in rolling reduction from 70 to 85% while that of Goss component decreases. After recrystallization (750 and 800°C), the textures were composed of α and γ-fiber along with significant Goss components. The strength of γ-fiber decreases after annealing. The presence of Goss component in recrystallization textures is attributed to preferential nucleation in {111}〈112〉 type deformed grains.  相似文献

In order to apply the powerful kernel-based pattern recognition algorithms such as support vector machines to predict functional sites in proteins, amino acids need encoding prior to input. In this regard, a new string kernel function, termed as the modified bio-basis function, is proposed that maps a nonnumerical sequence space to a numerical feature space. The proposed string kernel function is developed based on the conventional bio-basis function and needs a bio-basis string as a support like conventional kernel function. The concept of zone of influence of a bio-basis string is introduced in the proposed kernel function to take into account the influence of each bio-basis string in nonnumerical sequence space. An efficient method is described to select a set of bio-basis strings for the proposed kernel function, integrating the Fisher ratio and a novel concept of degree of resemblance. The integration enables the method to select a reduced set of relevant and nonredundant bio-basis strings.  相似文献

The cause for the failure of an air compressor has been investigated. It was found that a pre-existing fatigue crack was present at the root of the impeller blade. Transients and unsteady operation of the equipment prior to the accident are thought to have grown the fatigue crack to its critical size, thereby causing an imbalance in the impeller rotation and leading to failure.  相似文献

TiO2 thin films have been deposited at different Ar:O2 gas ratios (20:80,70:30,50:50,and 40:60 in sccm) by rf reactive magnetron sputtering at a constant power of 200 W. The formation of TiO2 was confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The oxygen percentage in the films was found to increase with an increase in oxygen partial pressure during deposition. The oxygen content in the film was estimated from XPS measurement. Band gap of the films was calculated from the UV-Visible transmittance spectra. Increase in oxygen content in the films showed substantial increase in optical band gap from 2.8 eV to 3.78 eV. The Ar:O2 gas ratio was found to affect the particle size of the films determined by a transmission electron microscope (TEM). The particle size was found to be varying between 10 and 25 nm. The bactericidal efficiency of the deposited films was investigated using Escherichia coli (E. coli) cells under 1 h UV irradiation. The growth of E. coli cells was estimated through the Optical Density measurement by UV-Visible absorbance spectra. The qualitative analysis of the bactericidal efficiency of the deposited films after UV irradiation was observed through SEM. A correlation between the optical band gap, particle size and bactericidal efficiency of the TiO2 films at different argon:oxygen gas ratio has been studied.  相似文献

Metastable austenitic stainless steel of type AISI 304L was cold rolled to 90% with and without inter-pass cooling. Inter-pass cooling produced 89% of strain-induced martensite whereas no inter-pass cooling resulted in the formation of 43% of martensite in the austenite matrix. The cold-rolled specimens were annealed at various temperatures in the range of 750–1000 °C. The microstructures of the cold-rolled and annealed specimens were studied by the electron microscope. The grain size and low angle boundaries were determined from the orientation maps recorded by the scanning electron microscope-based electron backscattered diffraction technique. The observed microstructural changes were correlated with the reversion mechanism of martensite to austenite and volume fraction of martensite. It was noted that large volume fractions of martensite at low annealing temperatures, below 900 °C, were most suitable for the formation of fine grains. On the contrary, reversion of small volume fractions of martensite at critical annealing temperature of 950 °C resulted in grain refinement.  相似文献

Fatigue lives at high peak stresses for peak-aged (T6) and overaged (T73) 7075 aluminum alloy were compared in the uncorroded and precorroded (pitted) states. Absolute fatigue lives of T73 samples were much higher than that of T6 in the virgin as well as precorroded condition, but the normalized life of T73 was less than that of T6, indicating an intrinsic crack initiation resistance in the former, borne out by fractography, which showed that fatigue cracks almost always initiated at pits for T73 but not for T6. The various crack initiation methodologies observed and the effect of pitting on fatigue lives in the two aging conditions are discussed.  相似文献

A simple yet very efficient algorithm has been devised for the analysis of multistream heat exchangers. In this approach, an n-stream heat exchanger is considered as a stack of (n ? 1) two-stream exchangers separated by diabatic partitions. Starting from the analysis of the basic two-stream units the entire heat exchanger can be designed non-iteratively. The validity of the algorithm has been established through a number of examples, comprising of two-steam exchanger with external heat leakage, three-stream and four-stream exchangers. Excellent agreements with experimental results and published simulation have been observed. Finally the most crucial assumption made in the present work has been assessed critically and its justification has been provided.  相似文献
