A major concern of researchers using state data sets for population-based analyses and market share studies in the health care sector is the potential bias caused by 'border crossing'--patients receiving care out of state. By using the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) discharge abstract files for 1987 and 1988, we found that 'border crossing' is not a serious problem for the two large states we examined. Only 4.4% of New York patients and 2.15% of California patients received care out of state. At the county and zip code level, 'border crossing' is more frequent but tends to be concentrated in areas adjacent to other states. Even excluding all zips with more than 10% of patients crossing the 'border' results in a small loss of patients (2.2% for New York and 1.0% for California). 相似文献

Lean body mass (LBM), total body bone mineral mass (BMC), total body bone areal density (BMD), and body fat mass (FM) were measured in rats by dual photon absorptiometry (DXA), using two different instruments. The coefficients of variation for repeated measurements of LBM and FM were about 0.4 and 2.5%, respectively, over an animal body weight range of 150 to 600 g. For BMC and BMD, the coefficients of variation were less than 2%. The correlation coefficients for LBM, FM, BMC, and BMD measured on the two densitometers were all greater than 0.94. The slope of the regression line relating LBM measured by DXA and LBM measured by carcass analysis was 0.999, and the correlation coefficient was 0.99. For FM the slope was 1.05, and the correlation coefficient was 0.98. BMC measures by DXA were falsely low in small animals. For larger animals, the correlation between BMC and ash weight was 0.93, but the slope of the regression line was 0.78. DXA measures of LBM and FM were accurate and reproducible for rats weighing between 150 and 600 g. There was a size-dependent error in BMC, which will be significant in longitudinal measurements of bone mass. 相似文献

The tool portfolio of a plant refers to the makeup, in quantity and type, of processing machines in the plant. It is determined by taking into consideration the future trends of process and machine technologies and the forecasts of product evolution and product demands. Portfolio planning is also a multicriteria decision-making task involving tradeoffs among, investment cost, throughput, cycle time, and risk. Tool portfolio planning is a complex task that has strong bearing on manufacturing efficiency. In the first part of this paper, a multicriteria economic decision model is presented for optimal configuration. of the portfolio and to determine the optimal factory loading. The second and third parts of the paper contain applications of the model. If plants are closely located or have a twin-plant design, portfolio planning at multiple plants can be integrated to enhance the overall effectiveness of portfolios. In the second part, a novel methodology for arbitrating capacity backup between plants is described. Because the economic model is constructed upon a valuation of both cycle time and throughput, it is a suitable method for the evaluation of cycle time reduction projects. Forty-three patients with spastic quadriplegia (mean age 7.9 years, range 3.3 to 17.2 years) underwent bone mineral density (BMD) measurement of the lumbar spine and were evaluated between 2.6 and 5.5 years (mean 3.8) later to determine whether this measurement had predicted risk of fracture over the subsequent period of observation. Other potential risk factors that were evaluated include body weight z score, serum vitamin D levels, previous fracture, and hip spica casting. The baseline measurements showed that BMD falls further below normal with increasing age and was more than one standard deviation below age-matched normal mean in 38 of the 43 patients. Fracture rate did not differ between those with low and those with very low spinal BMD. Similarly, serum vitamin D levels and body weight z scores were not predictive of fracture. However, fracture rate was over fourfold greater following spica casting and more than threefold greater following an initial fracture. Fracture rates in the study group were similar to those reported for age- and sex-matched normal children, though generally the location of the fractures and mechanisms of injury differed. 相似文献

A method for the detection of motion in image sequences is presented. In this method, the intensity history at each pixel is convolved with the second derivative in time of a temporal Gaussian smoothing function. The zero crossings in a single frame of the resulting function indicate the positions of moving edges. Intensity changes in time due to illumination effects do not produce zero crossings; thus, they are not interpreted as motion by the present method. It is also shown that the spatial and temporal derivatives of this function can be used to compute the component of the optical flow that is normal to the zero-crossing contours. The stress buffer layer (SBL) is a widely applied improvement in many advanced packages used to release the stress concentration at solder joints. However, it has been generally found that the metal line adjacent to the SBL may suffer larger deformation and its reliability should be addressed. In this study, the panel level package (PLP) technology with solder on polymer (SOP) structure is selected as the testing sample to investigate the effect of SBL. The ball shear strength test is conducted first to investigate the reliability of metal trace in PLP. In addition, finite element (FE) analysis is applied to understand the actual thermo-mechanical behavior of PLP after its assembly.
