A framework for intelligent test data generation

Test data generation using traditional software testing methods generally requires considerable manual effort and generates only a limited number of test cases before the amount of time expanded becomes unacceptably large. A rule-based framework that will automatically generate test data to achieve maximal branch coverage is presented. The design and discovery of rules used to generate meaningful test cases are also described. The rule-based approach allows this framework to be extended to include additional testing requirements and test case generation knowledge.This work was supported in part by George C. Effect of acute dietary alteration upon intestinal lipid synthesis

The specific activities of three enzymes engaged in complex lipid synthesis, diglyceride acyltransferase, cholinephosphotransferase, and lysolecithin acyltransferase were studied in intestinal mucosa of hamsters fed either saline, hydrolyzed casein, or corn oil for 9 1/2 hr. In the most proximal intestine, saline feeding was associated with a reduced specific activity in villous tips with all three enzymes studied when compared with the two caloric supplemented groups. In the most distal intestine, oil feeding increased the activity of lysolecithin acyltransferase and choline phosphotransferase twofold as compared to casein fed hamsters; diglyceride acyltransferase was increased one- and one-half-fold. The response of lysolecithin acyltransferase and diglyceride acyltransferase to fat feeding was incomplete when compared to hamsters fed a fat supplemented diet for 7 days, suggesting that their pattern of response to dietary substrate was similar to the disaccharidases. By contrast, the response of cholinephosphotransferase to fat feeding was complete at 24 hr, suggesting that it responds in a manner similar to the glycolytic enzymes.     

An intensive regimen of pelotherapy in pulmonology

The authors show that intensification of peloid therapy, i.e. more frequent procedures, in patients with pulmonary diseases imposes additional load on the regulatory systems: vegetative, cardiovascular, immune. Moderate balneological reactions become more frequent, therapeutic results worsen. How to correct the above negative effects is proposed.     

Late results of local transrectal hyperthermia in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia and its complications

LTH on Yakhta-4M unit was used in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The prostate was heated transrectally by directional radiation. The course of treatment comprised 5 sessions for 60 min twice a week. The efficacy of the treatment was assessed 3 years later in 78 patients which were divided into 4 groups: 31 patients with BPH, 30 patients with BPH in combination with chronic prostatitis, 9 patients with acute urine retention and 8 patients with cystostomy fistula. 5 patients underwent surgery. LTH is safe in relation to side effects, may be used both at early stage of the disease and in risk of operative intervention.     

Materials on the morphology departments of the Orenburg Medical Academy

An analysis of the relation among the quantity of focuses of Aedes aegypti, the rains and the temperatures in rainy and dry periods from 1982 to 1992 in 10 de Octubre municipe, at City of Havana, was carried out. No correlation was found between the number of focuses and the rains occurred in both seasons, and it was just the same between the number of focuses and temperatures. Thus, emphasis is made in the need for a strong surveillance along all year.     

Similarities of error regularization, sigmoid gain scaling, targetsmoothing, and training with jitter

The generalization performance of feedforward layered perceptrons can, in many cases, be improved either by smoothing the target via convolution, regularizing the training error with a smoothing constraint, decreasing the gain (i.e., slope) of the sigmoid nonlinearities, or adding noise (i.e., jitter) to the input training data, In certain important cases, the results of these procedures yield highly similar results although at different costs. Training with jitter, for example, requires significantly more computation than sigmoid scaling.
