Dreams about the therapist: Mood, interactions, and themes.

Analyzed the mood, interactions, and themes in the manifest dream representations reported by 67 25–71 yr old psychotherapist volunteers, who each reported 1 dream about his/her own therapist. Ss tended to have unpleasant dreams featuring therapists who were frustrating or gratifying. In the dreams, friendly, aggressive, and sexual interactions were initiated by therapists; only the friendly interactions tended to be reciprocated. Four overarching themes emerged: separation-rejection, seduction-antagonism, protectiveness-responsiveness, and praise. It is proposed that these characteristic ways of dreaming about the therapist depict issues of central importance for many patients, and reflect patients' effective use of the transference to work on their concerns. Elevated arterial pressure in normotensive Wistar strain rats after the transplantation of embryos from hypertensive ISIAH strain rats. Inherited stress-induced arterial hypertension

The ISIAH embryos exerted no effect on surrogate mothers if the embryos had been cryopreserved before transferring. The data obtained is discussed from the standpoint of surrogateship in medicine and possible effect of the embryo cryobanking on some inherited traits in mammals.     

Patients' representations of psychotherapy: A new focus for psychodynamic research.

Presents a psychodynamic framework and research methods for investigating the significance of patients' internal representations of therapy-with-their-therapists. In this article, 2 instruments developed for this purpose (Therapist Representation Inventory and Intersession Experience Questionnaire) are introduced, and their psychometric characteristics are described. Also, findings from a series of studies conducted with these instruments are summarized. Acute management of severe childhood asthma

Severe childhood asthma is a serious, life-threatening disease that presents a challenge for patients, families, and caregivers. Despite evolving medical and pharmacologic therapies, the incidence and severity of asthma are increasing. Vasoactive substances are released in response to environmental and intrinsic triggers and result in bronchospasm, bronchial mucosal edema, and mucus plugging of the airways. Early recognition of symptoms and prompt, aggressive treatment, including oxygen, beta agonists, corticosteroids, and anticholinergic agents, are essential in halting the progression of asthma symptoms. In the most severe cases, intubation, mechanical ventilation, and treatment with anesthetic agents may be needed to avoid significant morbidity and mortality. This article reviews epidemiology, pathophysiology, and acute care of the child experiencing an acute asthma exacerbation.
