One hundred and eighteen patients consecutively submitted to mechanical ventilation during a one year period, and admitted to the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, were prospectively studied in order to define the importance of hypoxaemia as a predictor of mortality. Using a discriminant multivariate analysis, the following variables were selected as the best predictors of outcome: 1) the number of associated complications (NAC) on admission; 2) the simplified acute physiologic score (SAPS); 3) oxygenation index (PAO2-AaPO2)/PAO2 + 0.014 positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP); and 4) the age of the patients. Using these predictors, 84% of the patients were accurately classified as survivors or as nonsurvivors. The partial contribution of each predictor to the model was also assessed using a logistic regression, by eliminating each single predictor and each possible pair of predictors. Using this means of analysis, the NAC and SAPS were the only predictors of mortality. The inclusion of short-term mechanically-ventilated patients did not bias the accuracy of prediction.  相似文献

Flash pyrolysis/gas chromatography (py/GC) and py/GC/mass spectrometry (MS) have been utilized to characterize the cuticles of invertebrates chemically. Pyrolysis products have been identified and assigned to specific cuticular components. Acetylpyridones, acetamidofuran, 3-acetamido-5-methylfuran and 3-acetamido-(2 and 4)-pyrones are proposed as characteristic pyrolysis markers for chitin. Pyrolysis products displaying ions of m/z 70, 154, 168, 194 are thought to derive from diketopiperazine structures and provide potential markers for proteins and peptides in which proline, alanine, valine, arginine and glycine are the dominant amino acids. These products, constituting specific pyrolysis markers for invertebrate cuticles, may reflect the amino acid composition of their constituent structural proteins. The source of the various pyrolysis products of proteins has been verified by pyrolysis of reference proteins, peptides and amino acid mixtures. The presence of additional pyrolysis products related directly to histidine and catechol moieties is consistent with the chemical structure and composition proposed for arthropod cuticles based on recent work utilizing solid state 13C and 15N nuclear magnetic resonance. This study constitutes the first comprehensive chemical characterization of the pyrolysis products of invertebrate cuticles and provides the basis for future investigations requiring qualitative screening for cross-linked chitin and proteins in modern and fossil cuticles and in materials, e.g. geopolymers, that may be derived from them.  相似文献

In this paper, a numerical approach for the analysis of a new type of hybrid composite beams is presented. Such beams are composed of composite materials that resist shear and tensile stresses, and polymer concrete acommodating compression stresses.The beams offer an optimized configuration in terms of stiffness and strength, with much potential for mechanical and civil engineering structures.The current numerical model is based on a finite element formulation for layered shell-like structures. The model accounts for a polymer concrete material model, orthotropic material model, and considers the analysis of geometric and material nonlinearities. The first-order shear deformation theory is used in order to describe the shell deformation under a total Lagrangian formulation. The model is validated experimentally and a close agreement with experimental results makes this model an attractive solution method for this type of composite hybrid beams.  相似文献

Conducted an experiment with 48 female adrenalectomized Sprague-Dawley rats, who were injected daily with aldosterone (.25 mg/kg) or deoxycorticosterone (3 mg/kg) in combination with corticosterone. The mineralocorticoids increased food intake and weight gain well beyond that of controls receiving only corticosterone injections. The weight gain was not wholly dependent on increased food intake, as separate groups of Ss maintained on a restricted diet (10 g of laboratory chow/day) also displayed significant mineralocorticoid-stimulated weight gain. Although carcass composition was not directly determined, the undifferentiated wet/dry tissue ratios, hematocrit values, and nasoanal lengths found across groups suggested that the observed effect of mineralocorticoids was on body fat. A scanning electron microscopy (SEM) study of the effect of water activity (a(w)), temperature and fungal interactions on the very early phases of Aspergillus ochraceus, Alternaria alternata and Fusarium verticillioides development on maize grains was carried out. Germination and growth of individual fungal strains were assayed at 0.92, 0.95 and 0.98 a(w), and 20 and 30 degrees C. Hyphal lengths were measured on micrographs taken by SEM at different periods of incubation. A. alternata had the highest linear growth at 0.98 a(w), and was the only species able to grow under all conditions tested, whereas A. ochraceus was not able to germinate at 0.92 a(w) at any temperature assayed. F. verticillioides demonstrated a different behaviour depending on growth temperature. Fungal interactions were studied at 0.95a(w) and 30 degrees C. A. ochraceus germination was inhibited when it was co-inoculated with one or two of the other species. A. alternata showed an increased growth rate when growing together with the other fungi, whereas growth of F. verticillioides was significantly inhibited when paired with A. ochraceus.  相似文献

The presence of drug residues in ewe's milk samples can be determined by microbial assays. The main limitation of these tests is the large number of false-positive results associated with them. False-positive results can be explained by the interaction of certain substances naturally existing in ewe's milk with the growth of the microorganism used in the test. In this study, milk chemical composition (fat, protein, lactose, total solids), somatic cell counts (SCCs), free fatty acid concentrations, and lactoperoxidase system components were determined in order to investigate their influence on the rate of false-positive results for the BRT and Delvotest microbiological inhibitor tests. Milk samples were obtained after morning milking of Manchega ewes at 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 105, 120, and 135 days after parturition. The animals did not receive any kind of treatment or medicated feed throughout the experiment. The false-positive rates for BRT and Delvotest were 3.75 and 2.4%, respectively. When the logistic regression model was applied, the percentages of total solids for positive samples were significantly different from those for negative samples (16.90 versus 18.42% for BRT, 16.05 versus 18.45% for Delvotest), while the SCC logarithmic transformation was significantly higher for the positive samples than for the negative samples (5.38 versus 5.11 log units for BRT, 5.32 versus 5.11 log units for Delvotest). Moreover, Delvotest-positive samples exhibited thiocyanate concentrations higher than those of Delvotest-negative samples (8.18 mg/liter versus 6.85 mg/liter). Further analyses are needed to confirm the possible presence of antimicrobial residues in this particular type of milk sample.  相似文献

What is to our knowledge a new scene-based algorithm for nonuniformity correction in infrared focal-plane array sensors has been developed. The technique is based on the inverse covariance form of the Kalman filter (KF), which has been reported previously and used in estimating the gain and bias of each detector in the array from scene data. The gain and the bias of each detector in the focal-plane array are assumed constant within a given sequence of frames, corresponding to a certain time and operational conditions, but they are allowed to randomly drift from one sequence to another following a discrete-time Gauss-Markov process. The inverse covariance form filter estimates the gain and the bias of each detector in the focal-plane array and optimally updates them as they drift in time. The estimation is performed with considerably higher computational efficiency than the equivalent KF. The ability of the algorithm in compensating for fixed-pattern noise in infrared imagery and in reducing the computational complexity is demonstrated by use of both simulated and real data.  相似文献
