Spironolactone and acute mountain sickness

Thirteen adults trekking in Nepal in 1974 to altitudes between 4,300 m and 5,500 m remained free from acute mountain sickness while taking spironolactone as a prophylactic measure. Two years previously five of these adults trekking at similar altitudes, but without treatment, had suffered from acute mountain sickness. The regime used was spironolactone in a dosage of 25 mg three times a day for two days preceding and during the periods spent at altitudes above 3,000 m.

本文建立了一检测有害气体的双臂式光纤束传感器系统 ,确定了传感器探头内光纤束端面上单根光纤的最佳排列方式 .对 NO气体的特性进行了研究 ,在不同浓度下 ,得到了 NO气体对光的吸收谱和某一波长下 NO气体吸收率随气体浓度、光程的变化特性 .实验结果表明在一定条件下 NO气体浓度与吸收百分比成线性关系 .该系统的响应时间仅为 5 s,恢复时间在 10 s之内     

Severe selective IgM deficiency

Based on our results we are able to attribute to the PGE2 a special importance during the beginning of cervical dilatation. A cervical dilatation up to 3 cm is faster achieved by cervical relaxation effect and a direct effect on myometrial tissue independant from exterior parameters. The earlier the cervix has reached such a dilatation, the earlier regular contractions are registered at inductions with PGE2. These contractions are furthermore more effective and led to a shorter induction delivery interval under a minimal physiologic stress. This procedure is combined to a lower intrauterine pressure and shows no negative sideeffects on child and mother.     

Neuraminidase activity of NAG vibrios and of some representatives of the intestinal group of bacteria

It was studied 203 strains of NAG vibrios and 71 strains of different enterobacteria for the ability to produce neuraminidase. The most frequent neuraminidase producers were found among the strains isolated from humans (99 strain of 131). There was no correlation between neuraminidase production and other properties of the vibrios. The examined strains of the family Enterobacteriaceae did not produce the enzyme.     

Model of a chronic Vibrio cholerae carrier based on gnotobiotic rats

Germ-free monoflora (contaminated with nonpathogenic spore-bearing bacillus) and common albino rats (OFA) were infected with V. cholera El Tor, of Ogava and Inaba serological types (6 milliard microbial cells per 1.5 ml of physiological solution per rat). Approximately one week after the infection the number of vibrios reached hundreds of millions per 1 g of feces and persisted at this level for over 100 days (observation period). Newborn rats were infected by natural way from adult vibrio carriers and also became vibrio-carriers. The number of vibrios excretedby the animals which were germ-free and monoflora before the infection was approximately the same. Cholera vibrios perished completely in the enteric tract and were never revealed in the feces of common (control) rats.     

Characteristics of "erotic" practitioners

Using the responses of 460 physicians to a questionnaire survey regarding sexual contact with patients (1), the authors attempt to statistically differentiate two groups--erotic practitioners and nonerotic practitioners. Analysis of data suggests that the freer a physician is with nonerotic contact with patients, the more statistically likely he is to engage in erotic contact.     

Antituberculosis immunity in adult thymectomized mice

Thymectomy performed in adult animals 6 months and more before the inoculation of mycobacteria H37Rv reduced the resistance to tuberculosis infection considerably. This reduction was the greater, the more time passed after the operation. There also developed immunity disturbances mainly connected with the damage of the thymus-dependent cells (depletion of thymus-dependent zones, reduction of tuberculin sensitivity of the skin and of the cytotoxic effect of lymphocytes on antigen-containing target cells).
