Primary spinal T-cell rich B-cell lymphoma: a case report

During my nursing career, I remember constantly being aware of patients who needed some emotional help--those who were frightened about a forthcoming operation, those who were shocked and despairing after being given their diagnosis and prognosis, others who were down in the dumps because they couldn't go home as soon as they had hoped. There were also the 'ward clowns' who tried to make everyone laugh with their good humour and little pranks, yet felt no less anxious, worried or depressed than anyone else. Patients seem to fit into categories: the nervous ones, the depressives, the jovial types, the moaners, those who demand attention and those who shun it. I feel sure that every nurse has noticed the different 'types' of people who fill hospital beds-ordinary people who seem to take on a new persona as soon as they get into their pyjamas and become a 'patient'. Somehow, their identity gets folded up and put away in their locker along with their outdoor clothes and other reminders of the outside world.

Augmentation mammaplasty by the transaxillary approach seems to be a safe and anatomically sound procedure which produces consistent results with a low complication rate. Our experiences with this procedure and our modifications in the technique are described. Two instruments which were designed to facilitate the procedure are reported. An anatomical justification for the transaxillary method is made.     

Possible involvement of the base exchange enzymes in the phospholipid metabolism in LAN-2 cells

The incorporation of [14C] choline, [14C] ethanolamine, and [14C] serine by LAN-2 cells into their corresponding phospholipids was investigated in the presence or absence of TPA. The presence of TPA increased the amount of radioactivity incorporated into the phospholipids with a corresponding decrease in the amount of radioactivity in the cytosolic compartment compared to control cultures. There were no differences between TPA-exposed and control cells in the distribution of radioactivity in free choline, phosphorylcholine or CDP-choline of [14C] choline labeled cells. This indicates that the increased lipid labeling was not accompanied by enhanced labeling of the intermediates of the de novo pathway. These results suggest that a choline base exchange enzyme was stimulated in TPA exposed cells. In addition, the enhanced incorporation of serine by TPA into its corresponding phospholipid implies the stimulation of the serine base exchange enzyme which is responsible for phosphatidylserine synthesis in mammals. The authors show that intensification of peloid therapy, i.e. more frequent procedures, in patients with pulmonary diseases imposes additional load on the regulatory systems: vegetative, cardiovascular, immune. Moderate balneological reactions become more frequent, therapeutic results worsen. How to correct the above negative effects is proposed.
