Study on splitting of sucrose glycoside bonds by beta-fructosidase of Aspergillus niger VKM F-801

Functional groups of beta-fructosidase of Aspergillus niger VKM F-801 were identified. Based on the pH dependence of the enzyme, the calculated heat of ionization, the photoinactivation of the enzyme in the presence of methylene blue photosensitizer, and also the enzyme inactivation by diethyl pyrocarbonate, the catalytic center of the beta-fructosidase was found to include carboxyl and imidazole groups of amino acid residues. The glycoside bond in the sucrose molecule is apparently cleaved by the catalytically active carboxylate--imidazole pair.     

Lupus erythematosus: effects of different therapeutic methods on intranuclear characteristics of lymphoid cells

In lymphocytes of peripheral blood from 46 patients with various forms of lupus erythematosus measurements were made of histone fractions and DNA. It is proved that intranuclear characteristics of lymphoid cells can be used in the choice of treatment and assessment of its efficacy. Lupus erythematosus treatment with glucocorticoids (diprospan, diprospan + celeston) is effective in correction of intranuclear lymphocyte changes in this disease.     

Antiradical activity and membranotropic action of cardio- and vasotropic compounds of varying chemical nature]

Antiradical activity and ability to interaction with phosphatidylcholine bilayer of the physiological active compounds (PhAC), concerning the classes of phenylalkilamines (dobutamine, verapamil), dihydro pyridines (BAY-K-4688, nifedipine), analogues of crown ether (carbicyle, diol) was studied. By means of the method of microcalorimetry and spectrophotometry it was shown the complexing ability PhAC with the phospholipid bilayer of the model membrane. It was stated the simbasity in the changes of the thermal effect of the compounds with the negative inotropic activity during its reaction with phosphatidylcholine bilayer and antiradical activity. That show on the presence of antiradical component in the mechanism that compounds' action.     

Computed tomography of the normal feline nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses

We studied physical, cognitive, emotional and quality-of-life changes noted by relatives in a sample of 65 severely traumatic brain injured (TBI) patients several years after injury. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the families perception of these changes and their need for information concerning the consequences of TBI. Our results indicated that the perceived changes in behavioural and affective symptoms and in the patient's quality of life were most closely associated with the need expressed by family members for information concerning, TBI. We also found that family relationships were especially affected by problems in the behavioral and affective domain, and the decrease in patient quality of life, as reported by relatives. These findings underline the importance of providing the relatives of TBI patients with information about the consequences of the injury with particular emphasis on behavioural and emotional disturbances, in order that they might cope better with these problems.     

Parameters of estrogen expression in patients with endometrial tumors as prognostic signs of the effectiveness of neoadjuvant antitumor hormone therapy

Comparison was made of changes in such morphological characteristics of tumor as cell differentiation and mitotic activity in 142 patients with endometrial carcinoma in the course of treatment, using tamoxifen or oxyprogesterone capronate or both, and those of estrogen background (karyopicnotic, eosinophilic and maturity indices, numerical index of maturity and blood-estradiol level). Three levels of estrogen background-low, medium and high-were identified by assay of the colpocytological indices in postmenopausal patients with endometrial carcinoma. Levels of the colpocytological indices observed at high indices of estrogen background proved a reliable numerical criterion for evaluating the sensitivity of the patients to neoadjuvant hormone therapy. A significant correlation was established between high estrogen background, pathogenetic variant I and high differentiation of tumor cells. The high incidence of hormonal pathology in tumor tissue was registered when the colpocytological indices dropped by half after oxyprogesterone capronate treatment, and by third-after combined therapy (tamoxifen + oxyprogesterone capronate). In cases free from pronounced pathomorphism, said indices dropped by not more than 20%.

To differentiate such close morphological species as D. vastator and D. crassus it has been suggested to take into account, in addition to taxonomic features, the correlation between the anchor ventroapical length and the bend.
