This paper discusses the issues of providing an empirically validated, manual-based-treatment when viewed from the perspective of a practicing clinical psychologist. The trend for empirically proven treatment is reviewed briefly, and initial data are provided illustrating a manual-based-treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following a motor vehicle accident. The relatively brief (9-12 session) psychological treatment was effective in reducing PTSD symptoms as measured on the Clinician Administered PTSD Scale, for all 10 subjects. The results are discussed form the practicing clinician's perspective: generalization to a clinical population, ethical concerns of limited treatment goals, individually tailored vs standardized treatments in clinical practice, concerns for co-morbid conditions, and how this type of study might impact on practice in an era of managed health care. Issues of incorporating manual based treatments into clinical practice are discussed, with consideration of gains, the limits and the constraints this would bring to the practice of psychology. 相似文献

The target-based phasing of an optical phased array (OPA) fed by a broadband master oscillator laser source is investigated. The specific scenario examined here considers an OPA phasing through atmospheric turbulence on a rough curved object. An analytical expression for the detected or received intensity is derived. Gleaned from this expression are the conditions under which target-based phasing is possible. A detailed OPA wave optics simulation is performed to validate the theoretical findings. Barium titanate powders with average crystallite sizes of 68–2000 nm have been prepared by the calcination of barium titanyl
oxalate (BTO) at temperatures of 700–1150 °C. The morphology and recrystallization kinetics of the powders have been studied
using the SEM and X-ray methods. Samples of PTCR (BaCaPb)TiO3 ceramics have been made from these powders and their microstructure and electrical properties have been investigated. It
has been found that the increase of the crystallinity of the starting powders suppresses recrystallization of the ceramics,
leading to growth in resistivity and significantly influencing on the resistance jump and breakdown strength of the ceramics.
An optimal temperature range for the calcination of BTO has been found to ensure maximum breakdown strength of the PTC thermistors

In normal embryos, mRNA encoding platelet-derived growth factor A (PDGF A) and the platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha (PDGFR alpha) are found within and adjacent to the site of vertebral development, the sclerotome. These patterns of expression are consistent with PDGF action on the developing sclerotome and dermis. Homozygous Patch (Ph) mutant mouse embryos lack the receptor gene (Pdgfra) due to an extensive deletion at that locus. Consistent with the spatial pattern of Pdgfra expression, striking deformities are found in the spine and ribcage of Ph/Ph embryos. In particular, we show that late-gestation Ph/Ph embryos have occult spina bifida involving the entire spinal column. We have analyzed the progression of the axial defects in homozygous Patch embryos in detail. By late gestation it appears that the components of the vertebrae are present, yet the neural arches of the spine are misshapen. We propose that PDGF A is required for proper positioning of the neural arch condensation at all axial levels. Furthermore, since the neural tube appears to close normally, we suggest that spina bifida in the Ph homozygote is caused primarily by a somitic mesoderm abnormality rather than a neural tube defect. 相似文献

335 patients with obliterative diseases of arteries of the low extremities were examined. Results of motor rehabilitation depend on the severity of post-amputation defect of the extremity and functional condition of the stump. The lower is the level of the amputation the higher is the effectiveness of the rehabilitational measures. Ischemia of femoral stump springs up rarely but its course is mare severe than ischemia of the stump of the shin, which is confirmed by the data of clinical examination, investigation of biochemical parameters of the blood and mortality rate. For prophylaxis of ischemia of the stump it is suggested simultaneously with the amputation of the extremity to perform reconstructive procedures on the arteries, aimed at restoration of blood flow through the profound femoral artery. Critical plane approaches are useful methods when designing against long-term fatigue of machine components made from metals. Somewhat surprisingly, the very basic problem of the evaluation of the amplitude and mean value of the shear stress acting on the critical plane is still not resolved satisfactorily for non-proportional cyclic loading conditions. In the present paper, existing proposals for solving this problem are briefly reviewed and their weaknesses highlighted. Then it is shown, through particular examples, that application of these proposals can lead to ambiguous results. Therefore, new definitions of the amplitude and mean value of the shear stress acting on the critical plane are formulated here. These new definitions are free from any ambiguity because they are based on the construction of the unique minimum-circumscribed circle to the path described by the shear stress on the critical plane. The centre of this circle defines the mean shear stress, whereas its radius provides the corresponding shear stress amplitude. The effect of chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) on the reservoir function of the gallbladder was studied in 46 patients with cholesterol cholelithiasis. There was a dependence between a clear increase of filling of the gallbladder in patients treated by this method with subsequent sharp reduction of its size and development of dyspepsia and diarrhea. In 14 patients increase of the gallbladder against the background of chemotherapy was not authentic but no dyspeptic phenomena occurred. Thus, decompensation of the reservoir function of the gallbladder in patients with cholelithiasis against the background of chemotherapy are manifested by a significant increase of the gallbladder size with subsequent emptying of bile into the duodenum and development of collagenous diarrhea. 相似文献
