This study investigated the generation of oil drops using new symmetric and asymmetric through-hole-array devices made of
stainless steel. The through-hole-array devices were built by piling up six stainless-steel plates, each having circular micro-holes
with a diameter of 300 or 500 μm or micro-slots with a shorter line of 300 or 500 μm. Drops were generated by injecting a
dispersed phase (refined soybean oil) via the through-hole array into a compartment filled with a continuous phase (Milli-Q
water solution containing one of two emulsifiers). The drop detachment from symmetric and asymmetric through holes was observed
in real time and analyzed. Uniform oil drops with average diameters of 1.0–4.1 mm and coefficients of variation of typically
less than 6% were generated using symmetric and asymmetric through-hole-array devices. The resultant drop diameters for asymmetric
through-hole arrays were significantly smaller than those for symmetric through-hole arrays. This paper also discusses experimental
results regarding the effects of the microstructure, the dimensions of the through holes, and the type of emulsifier on drop

The authors recently proposed a promising technique for producing monodisperse emulsions using a straight-through microchannel
(MC) device composed of an array of microfabricated oblong holes. This research developed new straight-through MC devices
with tens of thousands of oblong channels of several microns in size on a silicon-on-insulator plate, and investigated the
emulsification characteristics using the microfabricated straight-through MC devices. Monodisperse oil-in-water (O/W) and
W/O emulsions with average droplet diameters of 4.4–9.8 μm and coefficients of variation of less than 6% were stably produced
using surface-treated straight-through MC devices that included uniformly sized oblong channels with equivalent diameters
of 1.7–5.4 μm. The droplet size of the resultant emulsions depended greatly on the size of the preceding oblong channels.
The emulsification process using the straight-through MC devices developed in this research had very high apparent energy
efficiencies of 47–60%, defined as (actual energy input applied to droplet generation/theoretical minimum energy input necessary
for making droplets) × 100. Straight-through MC devices with numerous oblong microfluidic channels also have great potential

Site-specific electronic structures were investigated by electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) under electron channeling conditions. The Al-K and Mn-L(2,3) electron energy loss near-edge structure (ELNES) of, respectively, NiAl2O4 and Mn3O4 were measured. Deconvolution of the raw spectra with the instrumental resolution function restored the blunt and hidden fine features, which allowed us to interpret the experimental spectral features by comparing with theoretical spectra obtained by first-principles calculations. 考察了不同结构的活性炭样品对高浓度和低浓度甲苯蒸汽的吸附行为,采用低温(77 K)氮气吸附和129Xe-核磁共振方法对所用活性炭的结构进行了表征.并将活性炭对甲苯的吸附性能与其结构进行了关联.结果表明孔容积大的活性炭对高浓度甲苯蒸汽吸附容量大,而具有丰富微孔和较小平均孔径的活性炭对低浓度(2×10-5)甲苯蒸汽具有高的吸附容量.沥青基活性炭纤维对低浓度(2×10-5)甲苯蒸汽表现出较好的吸附能力.随着比表面积的增大,活性炭纤维对低浓度(2×10-5)甲苯蒸汽的吸附容量略有增加.OG5A,OG10A,OG15A和OG20A在30 ℃下对2×10-5甲苯蒸汽的饱和吸附容量分别为202 mg/g,219 mg/g,221 mg/g和235 mg/g. 相似文献

Abstract— Defect‐free large‐area inorganic thick‐dielectric EL (TDEL) displays using Color by Blue (CBB) technology have been successfully developed. We have achieved the world's highest blue‐phosphor luminance of 900 cd/m2 for a single‐pixel device by using CBB and by optimizing the e‐beam gun configuration and the flow rate of H2S in the vacuum chamber. By analyzing the defects on panels with triple‐pattern phosphors and CBB panels, we also found that the number of defects on CBB panels can be drastically reduced compared with those on triple‐pattern panels. The defect‐free 17‐in. VGA CBB panels show better characteristics, a high peak luminance of 600 cd/m2 and a high contrast ratio of 1000:1, compared with those of triple‐pattern panels. 相似文献

In this study, the damage evolution behavior was evaluated considering the effect of the textile structure and water absorption. Damage observation was conducted by the integration of non-destructive and direct observation methods. Candidate textile reinforcements were T300-3k plain woven fabric (PW) and T700S-12k multi-axial knitted fabric (MA). The effect of water absorption on the performances of compression after impact (CAI) and PIF were small in PW CFRP laminates. Conversely, PIF properties of water-absorbed MA CFRP laminates drastically decreased than that of dry ones. CAI strength was not affected by water absorption. PIF performance of dry MA CFRP was fairly higher than that of the others. From the precise observation, some evidences of interfacial deterioration caused by water absorption were confirmed in both PW and MA CFRP laminates. 相似文献

We studied energy transfer between rhodamine B molecules centered in each corn-shaped dendrons that forms self-assembled monolayer (SAM) film on an Au substrate. A SAM film using dendron moiety as a spacer can change the distance between rhodamines depending on the size, so that the energy transfer from an initially photo-excited rhodamine to its surrounding molecules can be controlled. The absorption spectrum of a SAM film for each generation of dendron was measured to ascertain a linear correlation between the generation and the distance. Picosecond time-resolved fluorescence spectra showed clear differences in the fluorescence decay dynamics between third-generation (G3) and fourth-generation (G4) dendron SAM films. In addition, we found that “dry” or “wet” dendron SAM considerably influenced fluorescence behavior. As a result, the use of “wet” G4 SAM is suitable in preserving photo-excitation energy. This is because it gave almost equal dynamics to G4 dendron in the dilute solution and prevented deactivation by energy dissipation. 相似文献

Among the agonists against three peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) subtypes, those against PPARα (fibrates) and PPARγ (glitazones) are currently used to treat dyslipidemia and type 2 diabetes, respectively, whereas PPARδ agonists are expected to be the next-generation metabolic disease drug. In addition, some dual/pan PPAR agonists are currently being investigated via clinical trials as one of the first curative drugs against nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Because PPARα/δ/γ share considerable amino acid identity and three-dimensional structures, especially in ligand-binding domains (LBDs), clinically approved fibrates, such as bezafibrate, fenofibric acid, and pemafibrate, could also act on PPARδ/γ when used as anti-NAFLD drugs. Therefore, this study examined their PPARα/δ/γ selectivity using three independent assays—a dual luciferase-based GAL4 transactivation assay for COS-7 cells, time-resolved fluorescence resonance energy transfer-based coactivator recruitment assay, and circular dichroism spectroscopy-based thermostability assay. Although the efficacy and efficiency highly varied between agonists, assay types, and PPAR subtypes, the three fibrates, except fenofibric acid that did not affect PPARδ-mediated transactivation and coactivator recruitment, activated all PPAR subtypes in those assays. Furthermore, we aimed to obtain cocrystal structures of PPARδ/γ-LBD and the three fibrates via X-ray diffraction and versatile crystallization methods, which we recently used to obtain 34 structures of PPARα-LBD cocrystallized with 17 ligands, including the fibrates. We herein reveal five novel high-resolution structures of PPARδ/γ–bezafibrate, PPARγ–fenofibric acid, and PPARδ/γ–pemafibrate, thereby providing the molecular basis for their application beyond dyslipidemia treatment. 相似文献

Aluminosilicate containing 0.50 wt% of iron oxide as impurity yields metallic iron deposit by heating with sodium borate (3Na2O·B2O3) in H2 at 950°C, while it remains unchanged by heating without the borate under the same condition. The SEM and EDX measurements indicate that the metallic iron deposit is formed on the sodium borate glass layer. We first find that the reduction in minor constituents in oxides is enhanced by the addition of borate as a flux. 相似文献
