Particle‐Based Synthesis of Peptide Arrays

High‐density peptide arrays with solid amino acid particles: Intermittent “freezing” of activated amino acid derivatives within solid particles allows a laser printer or a chip to spatially address these “postal packages”. Subsequent parallel coupling is started simply by melting a whole layer of 20 different amino acid particles, freeing the hitherto immobilized amino acids and resulting in the coupling of all 20 different amino acids to the support in a single coupling step.

The Nonuniformity of the Light Yield in Scintillator Strips with Wavelength-Shifting Fibers of the DANSS Detector

The transverse nonuniformity of the light yield in scintillator strips of the DANSS detector was investigated on a test setup that was specially designed for this purpose using proportional chambers with a wire pitch of 1 mm. It is shown that using the approaches that were used in the DANSS experiment, the variation in the light yield due to the geometric features of the strip design is approximately 8% for a minimum ionizing particle. This study can be useful for making estimates and designing similar detectors.

Formation of silicon nanocrystals in multilayer nanoperiodic <Emphasis Type="Italic">a</Emphasis>-SiO<Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">x</Emphasis></Subscript>/insulator structures from the results of synchrotron investigations

The problem of the efficiency of the controllable formation of arrays of silicon nanoparticles is studied on the basis of detailed investigations of the electronic structure of multilayer nanoperiodic a-SiO _x /SiO₂, a-SiO _x /Аl₂О₃, and a-SiO _x /ZrO₂ compounds. Using synchrotron radiation and the X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy technique, a modification is revealed for the investigated structures under the effect of high-temperature annealing at the highest temperature of 1100°C; this modification is attributed to the formation of silicon nanocrystals in the layers of photoluminescent multilayer structures.     

Isolation of adamantane hydrocarbons from Cenomanian oil of the Russkoe oilfield

Adamantane hydrocarbons have been isolated from Cenomanian heavy naphthenic oil of the Russkoe field using the thiocarbamide adduction method. Steam distillation of the oil has given a fraction (boiling range 105–150°C) containing 0.36 wt % adamantane, from which a concentrate containing 18.2 wt % C₁₀–C₁₄ adamantane derivatives has been obtained. Adamantane and its derivatives in the crude oil, oil fractions, and concentrate have been identified, and adamantane has been quantified using the gas chromatography—mass spectrometry technique.
