A correlation leak detector with a vertical antenna array for seeking leaks in underwater pipelines

A correlation method for localizing leaks in underwater pipelines using a two-element vertical antenna is considered. The main calculation relationships were obtained and estimates of the error of this method are presented.     

Effect of the Grain Size of the Initial Structure of 1565chM Alloy on the Structure and Properties of the Joints Fabricated by Friction Stir Welding

The effect of the initial grain size in the structure of the aluminum 1565chM alloy on the mechanical properties of the welded joints formed by friction stir welding and on the grain size in the weld core is studied. It is shown that the design of tool and, especially, the parameters of a screw groove exert a great effect on the grain size in the weld core.     

Gas-plasma flows under femtosecond laser ablation for metals in vacuum

New information on particle distribution over velocities, the mean-mass velocity, and the degree of monochromaticity of gas-plasma flow under femtosecond (τ ～ 45 fs, λ ～ 800 nm) laser ablation is obtained for several metals (Ti, Zr, Mo, Nb, Cu) in vacuum (p ～ 5 × 10^?2 Pa) by means of combined interferometry.     

Utilization of hot metal in arc furnaces

The advantages and disadvantages of hot metal in the electrosmelting of steel are considered. It is energetically expedient to replace some of the metal scrap with hot metal. Methods of introducing hot metal in the arc furnace are analyzed. Practical recommendations are made regarding the use of hot metal in electrosmelting. The hot metal used in electrosmelting at six metallurgical plants is subjected to chemical analysis.     

Effect of welding methods on the structure and mechanical properties of welded joints in creep-resisting titanium alloys with different initial structural conditions

Problems of welding rotor components made of creep-resisting titanium alloys are investigated. Comparative tests of the effects of fusion welding and rotational friction welding (FW) on the structure and properties of welded joints in titanium alloys are carried out. The experimental results show that welded joints produced by rotational FW have a structure identical to the structure of the parent metal, and the heat-affected zone does not form at all. The optimum conditions of FW of creep-resisting titanium alloys are determined. Irrespective of the initial type of structure, these conditions result in the mechanical properties of the welded joint at a level of 0.9 of the properties of the parent metal.     

Mechanical properties of the welded joints of 1565ch alloy sheets at low temperatures

The effect of the method of welding on the mechanical properties of the welded joints of the 1565chM alloy is studied at room, high, and low temperatures.     

Friction stir welding of V-1469 high strength aluminium–lithium alloy

The results of investigations of the effect of the technology for repairing defects, formed in friction stir welding of V-1469 aluminium alloy (secondary pass, manual argon-shielded arc welding), and of the effect of heat treatment on the mechanical properties and nature of failure of the welded joints are presented.     

Numerical Study of the Effect of Rotation on the Behavior of the Conjugate Heat and Mass Transfer on the Surface of a Spherically Blunted Cone Exposed to a Hypersonic Flow at an Angle of Attack with Ablation from the Surface

The processes of heating a body in a high-enthalpy spatial flow with allowance for body rotation around its longitudinal axis and ablation of the thermal protection material are studied by means of mathematical simulation. The obtained solution of the problem in conjugate formulation allowed us to take into account the effect of nonisothermic characteristics of the shell on the heat and mass transfer in the boundary layer.
