The prefactor in the expression of the decay rate of a metastable state

We compute the prefactor for the decay rate of a metastable state in dissipative systems. The result, for small values of viscosity, is given in terms of integrals over an extremal trajectory.Supported by NSERC under Grant NA7901.     

A pulsed liquid ionization chamber filled with Xe,Ar and CH4

A pulsed liquid ionization chamber filled with Xe, Ar and CH₄ is described and its characteristics are presented. The energy resolution for the detection of γ-quanta with an energy of 1836 keV amount to 4.9%, 4.1% and 6.2% for the xenon, argon and methane fillings, respectively. Dependences of the yields of free electrons from the electron tracks in the liquids (Xe, Ar, CH₄) on the electric field strength and the electron energy are obtained.     

Effects of ion irradiation and magnetic field on primary recrystallization of metals

On the example of a cold-rolled (110)[001] single-crystal Fe-3 wt % Si alloy, it has been shown that irradiation by accelerated Ar ions and application of an external magnetic field during annealing exert a substantial influence on the formation of structure and texture upon primary recrystallization.

Changes in mesenteric microcirculation in rats following repeated skin burns

Acute experiments were conducted on rats; repeated extensive burn of a convalescent who formerly sustained the burn disease was better tolerated, led tono fatal outcome and was accompanied by moderate microcirculatory disturbances. The smae burn was accompanied in intact rats by a severe shock followed by death, intravascular aggregation of erythrocytes and significant microcirculatory disturbances leading to disturbance of tissue nutrition. It is supposed that the results obtained could serve as an indirect proof that toxemia played an important role in the genesis of intravascular aggregation of erythrocytes in burn shock.
