Venous blood return to the heart in focal myocardial ishemia and its effect on the degree of ischemic injury and the size of the ischemic area

It was established in experiments on 14 dogs that the acute character of ischemic damage to the myocardium and the size of the zone of ischemia in occlusion of the coronary artery diminish against the background of reduced venous return to the heart. The reduction in the ischemic area occurs for the most part because of a decrease of the border-line and neutral zones.     

Radiation-surgical treatment of certain forms of malignant tumors

The altitude resistance of albino rats was studied via measurements of their altitude threshold on the 3rd, 7, 15, 30, 45th days of their step-by-step acclimatization to highlands (Tuya-Ashu pass at an altitude of 3200 m), on the 3rd, 7, 15, 30, 45th days of their nonstep-by-step acclimatization at the Tuya-Ashu pass and on the 3rd, 7, 15, 30, 45th days of their altitude chamber training. The step-by-step acclimatization of animals included their 15-day exposure to an altitude of 2200 m and subsequent stay in lowlands where their altitude threshold was recorded on the 3rd, 10, 20 30, 40, 60, 80th days. The data obtained indicate that step-by-step acclimatization to highlands results in a more significant increase of the altitude resistance of the animal body and a longer maintenance of the resistance on return to lowlands.     

Chronometric measurement of orthometric height differences by means of atomic clocks

We report on the experimental results of testing a new physical method of determination of the gravitational potential differences and orthometric heights by measuring the relativistic effect of gravitational redshift of frequency by means of atomic clocks. The experiment was performed in the Altai Mountains between two geodetic stations, Shebalino and Sieminski Pass, separated by about 850 meters in altitude. The measured mean value of the frequency shift caused by the change in the gravitational potential between the two stations is (δf/f ₀)_grav = 7.980 × 10^?14, with the dispersion σ _f = 7.27 × 10^?15 referred to the time interval of the experiment.     

The surgical procedure in the Mallory-Weiss syndrome

The authors dealt with treatment of 112 patients aged 27-70 years with the Mallory-Weiss syndrome. The diagnosis was confirmed by esophagogastroduodenoscopy. Diathermocoagulation was used in order to arrest bleeding. In profuse bleeding the margins of the mucosa fissures were first infiltrated with a solution of adrenaline. The Blakemore [correction of Bleikmorr] probe compression method was also used. Organ-saving operations were performed for continuing and recurrent bleedings. Two elderly patients with severe coexistent disease died. The authors consider that patients with the Mallory-Weiss syndrome must be treated by conservative methods. Operations for disruptions of the esophagus mucosa and acute blood loss will entail great risk.     

Factors in the development of chronic infection foci in the nasopharynx

Antigens were studied of HLA system in always ailing patients presenting with the formed chronic focus of infection in the tonsils. A total of 56 patients with chronic decompensated tonsillitis who were assigned for tonsillectomy by clinical indications were examined together with 53 essentially healthy subjects. Tonsillitis patients revealed HLA-antigens B7, A1, associations A10B7, more frequently than controls, the difference being statistically significant. The data obtained are helpful in identification of risk groups in relation to formation in recurrent respiratory diseases of chronic focal pathology in the nasopharynx.
