Incorporating Physical Demand Criteria into Assembly Line Balancing   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Many assembly line balancing algorithms consider only task precedence and duration when minimizing cycle time. However, disregarding the physical demands of these tasks may contribute to the development of work-related musculoskeletal disorders in the assembly line workers. Three line balancing heuristics that incorporate physical demand criteria were developed to solve the problem of finding assembly line balances that consider both the time and physical demands of the assembly tasks: a ranking heuristic, a combinatorial genetic algorithm, and a problem space genetic algorithm. Each heuristic was tested using 100 assembly line balancing problems. Incorporating physical demands using these algorithms does impact the assembly line configuration. Results indicated that the problem space genetic algorithm was the most adept at finding line balances that minimized cycle time and physical workload placed upon participants. Benefits of using this approach in manufacturing environments are discussed.  相似文献

Handgrip strength is an easy measure of skeletal muscle function as well as a powerful predictor of disability, morbidity, and mortality. In order to measure grip strength, a novel fiber-optic approach is proposed and demonstrated. The strain-dependent wavelength response of fiber Bragg gratings has been utilized to obtain the strength of individual fingers. Finite-element analysis is carried out to optimize the pressure transmission from the finger to the fiber Bragg grating. The effect of stiffness of the pressurizing media, its thickness, and the effect of contact fraction are evaluated. It is found that significant enhancement in the pressure sensitivity and wavelength-tuning range is achievable by optimizing these parameters. Also the stress-induced birefringence could be reduced to an insignificant near-zero value. The device is calibrated in terms of load to convert the wavelength shift to the strength of the grip. The time-dependent wavelength fluctuation is also studied and presented.  相似文献

An economic model of maintenance planning for a machine shop is developed. Maintenance can be performed on an individual machine or the entire group of machines simultaneously. The coordinated maintenance on the group would save on the fixed costs associated with separate overhauls. The frequencies of maintenance on each machine within two consecutive coordinated overhauls and the time between these coordinated overhauls is determined. The resulting model selects a solution that is close to the minimum of the total cost of production and maintenance.  相似文献

This work presents conditions for hexavalent and trivalent chromium removal from aqueous solutions using natural, protonated and thermally treated Ectodermis of Opuntia. A removal of 77% of Cr(VI) and 99% of Cr(III) can be achieved. The sorbent material is characterized using scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, before and after the contact with the chromium containing aqueous media. The results obtained from the characterization techniques indicate that the metal ion remains on the surface of the sorbent material. The percentage removal is found to depend on the initial chromium concentration and pH. The Cr(VI) and Cr(III) uptake process is maximum at pH 4, using 0.1g of sorbent per liter of aqueous solution. The natural Ectodermis of Opuntia showed a chromium adsorption capacity that was adequately described by the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Finally, an actual mine drainage sample that contained Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe Zn, Ni and Pb was tested under optimal conditions for chromium removal and Ectodermis of Opuntia was found to be a suitable sorbent material. The use of this waste material for the treatment of metal-containing aqueous solutions as well as mine drainage is effective and economical.  相似文献

A multiple-depth micro free-flow electrophoresis chip (mu-FFE) has been fabricated with a 20-microm-deep separation channel and 78-microm-deep electrode channels. Due to the difference in channel heights, the linear velocity of buffer in the electrode channels is approximately 15 times that of the buffer in the separation channel. Previous mu-FFE devices have been limited by electrolysis product formation at the electrodes. These electrolysis products, manifested as bubbles, decreased the electric field and disrupted the buffer flow profile, limiting performance and preventing continuous operation. Using channel depth to control buffer flow over the electrodes and in the separation channel effectively removes electrolysis products, allowing continuous operation. The linear velocities in the channels were confirmed using particle velocimetry and compared well with values predicted using lubrication theory. A separation potential of 645 V could be applied before significant Joule heating was observed. This corresponded to an electric field of 586 V/cm in the separation channel, a 4-fold increase over our previous design. A separation of fluorescent standards was demonstrated using the new mu-FFE device. Resolution increased by a factor of 1.3 over our previous design, even when operated under similar conditions, suggesting that effective removal of electrolysis products is more important than originally thought.  相似文献

The conventional Lorenz-Mie formalism is extended to the case for a coated sphere embedded in an absorbing medium. The apparent and inherent scattering cross sections of a particle, derived from the far field and near field, respectively, are different if the host medium is absorptive. The effect of absorption within the host medium on the phase-matrix elements associated with polarization depends on the dielectric properties of the scattering particle. For the specific cases of a soot particle coated with a water layer and an ice sphere containing an air bubble, the phase-matrix elements -P12/P11 and P33/P11 are unique if the shell is thin. The radiative transfer equation for a multidisperse particle system embedded within an absorbing medium is discussed. Conventional multiple-scattering computational algorithms can be applied if scaled apparent single-scattering properties are applied.  相似文献
