We have investigated the possibility that the nonrandom association of fatty acids in rat milk triglycerides results from specificity of the acyl transferases in the glycerolphosphate pathway. Subcellular fractionation of lactating rat mammary gland revealed that the microsomal fraction was the most active in acylation of 3-sn-[U-14C] glycerolphosphate with various acyl-CoA's. The major products were diacylglycerolphosphate and diglyceride; no monoacylglycerolphosphate was detected. Maximum rate of acylation occurred at or below the critical micelle concentration for each acyl-CoA, indicating that only the monomeric substrate molecules were acceptable by the enzyme system. The observed acyl specificity, 16∶0>18∶0≏14∶0>12∶0>10∶0>8∶0 is consistent with the concept that, in general, milk triglycerides are synthesized by insertion of a short or medium chain fatty acid into a long chain diglyceride. 相似文献

The review will describe experiments inspired by the rich variety of bundles and networks of interacting microtubules (MT), neurofilaments, and filamentous-actin in neurons where the nature of the interactions, structures, and structure-function correlations remain poorly understood. We describe how three-dimensional (3D) MT bundles and 2D MT bundles may assemble, in cell free systems in the presence of counter-ions, revealing structures not predicted by polyelectrolyte theories. Interestingly, experiments reveal that the neuronal protein tau, an abundant MT-associated-protein in axons, modulates the MT diameter providing insight for the control of geometric parameters in bio- nanotechnology. In another set of experiments we describe lipid-protein-nanotubes, and lipid nano-tubes and rods, resulting from membrane shape evolution processes involving protein templates and curvature stabilizing lipids. Similar membrane shape changes, occurring in cells for the purpose of specific functions, are induced by interactions between membranes and proteins. The detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the gas phase by mass-sensitive disk microresonators is reported. The disk resonators were fabricated using a CMOS-compatible silicon micromachining process and subsequently placed in an amplifying feedback loop to sustain oscillation. Sensing of benzene, toluene, and xylene was conducted after applying controlled coatings of an analyte-absorbing polymer. An analytical model of the resonator's chemical sensing performance was developed and verified by the experimental data. Limits of detection for the analytes tested were obtained, modeled, and compared to values obtained from other mass-sensitive resonant gas sensors. 相似文献

This study determined the rate and associated factors of red light infringement among urban commuter cyclists. A cross-sectional observational study was conducted using a covert video camera to record cyclists at 10 sites across metropolitan Melbourne, Australia from October 2008 to April 2009. In total, 4225 cyclists faced a red light and 6.9% were non-compliant. The main predictive factor for infringement was direction of travel, cyclists turning left (traffic travels on the left-side in Australia) had 28.3 times the relative odds of infringement compared to cyclists who continued straight through the intersection. Presence of other road users had a deterrent effect with the odds of infringement lower when a vehicle travelling in the same direction was present (OR = 0.39, 95% CI 0.28–0.53) or when other cyclists were present (OR = 0.26, 95% CI 0.19–0.36). Findings suggest that some cyclists do not perceive turning left against a red signal to be unsafe and the opportunity to ride through the red light during low cross traffic times influences the likelihood of infringement. 相似文献

Twenty-two laboratories participated in a collaborative test to determine the iodine value (IV) of eight samples of fish oil
(four with IV<150, four with IV>150) with either carbon tetrachloride (AOCS Official Method Cd 1–25) or cyclohexane (AOCS
Recommended Practice Cd 1b-87) as solvent and either 1 or 2 h of reaction time. Laboratories received coded duplicate samples
(hidden duplicates) and carried out duplicate determinations on each oil by each solvent-time combination (open duplicates).
Replacing carbon tetrachloride with cyclohexane resulted in a lower IV (P<0.001). The decrease averaged 1.6 IV units for low-IV oils and 3.8 IV units for high-IV oils; this difference in response
of 2.2 IV units between low- and high-IV oils was significant (P<0.001). Increasing the reaction time had a relatively small effect (0.34±0.18). There was no interaction of reaction time
with solvent or oil type. Cyclohexane caused emulsions, which made it difficult to titrate residual iodine and thus increased
the variability of the determination. The repeatability standard deviations (s

), based on hidden duplicates, for 1-h reaction time with carbon tetrachloride and cyclohexane were 2.17 and 3.35, respectively.

Innovation is invariably accepted as a central component of construction sector competitiveness. Yet, there remains a paucity of empirical research, which explores the gap between the way innovation is promoted in the policy discourse and how it is interpreted in practice. We follow the “narrative turn” in organization studies to explore the ways in which senior executives in the UK construction sector ascribe themselves with informal roles while advocating the cause of innovation. Empirical data is derived from narrative interviews with 32 senior executives who self-identify as “innovation champions”. When talking about innovation, the respondents were found to oscillate between performative narratives of innovation and more personalized stories derived from their own experience. The narratives were invariably pre-rehearsed often to the point of being monotonous. In contrast, the personalized stories tended to be engaging and emotionally laden. The tendency for senior executives to oscillate between narratives and stories is seen as an important means through which they search for meaning while at the same time legitimizing their self-identities as “innovation champions”. In this work, equiangular spiral antennas are analyzed with the well-known method of moments in conjunction with triangular patch modeling. In particular, the analysis focuses on the validity of several generic guidelines hitherto available for designing such antennas. In our study, numerical results indicate that increasing the number of spiral arm turns broadens the radiation pattern (i.e., the axial ratio increases), but that tapering the outermost portion of the arms has little effect. Furthermore, as a spiral is wrapped tighter, the radiation pattern broadens and the gain increases. We also show that the useful frequency range of the spiral antenna depends not only on the spiral arm length and the inner radius near the spiral center, but also on the wrap tightness. Finally, numerically determined input impedance differed considerably from the 188-Ω impedance expected for these self-complementary type antennas. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 相似文献
